[Bug 1054808] Re: Default filename for screenshots is problematic

2013-02-20 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
There are also many hosts that don't accept uploads with such file
names. So I'm often forced to rename the file manually, before
uploading. In older versions it let you at least choose the file name
and default folder with an easy dialog. So I'm very disappointed that
such an easy, but frequently used feature had become a pain to use.

[Bug 1067469] [NEW] Copying to external USB drive is slow

2012-10-16 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
Public bug reported:

If i copy larger files with Ubuntu 12.04 to my USB drive then it gets
very slow in the progress. Under Ubuntu 10.10 i could copy more then 30
MB/s using USB 2.0 connector. If i remember correctly i had a similar
issue under Ubuntu 10.10 which also lead nautilus to crash quite often.
I could fix it with some setting (years ago, can't remember where) so
that every automatically mounted device was mounted synchronized, which
fixed the problem. Since i upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 i have this problem
again. All drives will be mounted as async, which should not be an bad
idea in general, but if it is mounted that way the copying is delayed
and the transfer rate is usually at about 5 MB/s, even so it is the same
USB drive.

That the drive and USB port is bored and not used to full potential is
obvious if i copy two or more large files at once. Then the overall
transfer rate increases until the drive can't keep up any more due to
excessive seeking. Copying multiple files at once actually reaches up to
20 MB/s.

Since i work often with huge files this is somehow frustrating, since i
have to wait a long time until i can unplug the device.

[Bug 1067469] Re: Copying to external USB drive is slow

2012-10-16 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
Just installed and booted with mainline kernel. I got an error during
installing[1], but it still started. The graphics were crappy (low
resolution on Nvidia GTX 560 TI, minimal VGA driver or something, like i
have it during normal booting until the login screen pops up.) Otherwise
it worked fine.

The copying is still a bit delayed roughly 3-5 seconds, but then i get
up to 39 MB/s and it is quickly finished. Something i never reach with
12.04.

[Bug 1012280] Re: Transfer data to usb very slow.

2012-09-15 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
I have the same issue. Under Ubuntu 10.10 i fixed that by enforcing
Ubuntu to mount USB devices as sync and not as async. But as time
went by, i don't know anymore how i did that or if it is still possible.
At the moment the speed is very slow (5-7 MB/s), while i could write
files easily faster then 20 MB/s under Ubuntu 10.10.

Maybe someone can give me a hint to enable auto mounting with the sync
option to compare the speed?

[Bug 1012280] Re: Transfer data to usb very slow.

2012-09-15 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
PS: It is usually faster to copy big files in row (one after the other),
but currently i get a speed up if i copy more then one file at the same
time, which shouldn't be the case.

[Bug 1050261] [NEW] Can't change filename pattern of gnome-screenshot

2012-09-13 Thread Tobias Oelgarte
Public bug reported:

In older versions gnome-screenshot just created files named like
screenshot-1.png which was fine. But in newer versions it is always
named with a long pattern that even includes the time and therefore a
: on my system. This makes it impossible to upload the image to
several hosts without manually renaming it. So i was looking to change
the filename pattern which seams to be impossible without compiling my
own version. I would strongly suggest to allow the user to define an own
pattern or to avoid any format that includes the : character.
