Using Update Manager, an attempt to perform the upgrade entitled, New Ubuntu
release '14.04.1 LTS' is available, fails with the error:

[Bug 699889] [NEW] xterm, xterm-256color terminfo disagree wrt backspace

2011-01-07 Thread Todd Lewis
Public bug reported:

On my Ubuntu 10.04.1 laptop,

  infocmp -f -L -d xterm xterm-256color

shows (among other differences) that key_backspace is '\177' on xterm
but '^H' on xterm-256color. This causes some programs to misbehave when
TERM=xterm-256color. (The same command on Fedora 13 shows no such
difference btw.)

[Bug 331681] Re: Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device

2010-11-18 Thread Todd Lewis
I'm sorry, but Solved with some update is hardly a case closed. This
is affecting multiple people. I'm happy for you that you are no longer
suffering from this bug, but we don't know why or what fixed it in your
case or if it's fixed for others. I have two systems where this is a
problem and two where it isn't, and they have essentially the same
packages installed, and it affects both Canon and Kodak cameras.

Not solved yet, thanks.

Same behavior on 10.04 LTS upgraded from the prior LTS: blank page
ejected from printer and same errors reported
(/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf failed and Error: /invalidfont in
/findfont).

Removed ttf-mscorefonts-installer and was able to print again.

[Bug 309578] Re: thunderbird segfaults after password prompt

2009-08-26 Thread Todd Lewis
Copied the suspect tahoma.ttf font (not Tohoma as mispelled above a
few times) into a subdirectory of /usr/share/fonts/truetype and ran
sudo fc-cache -fv, then thunderbird -g (where thunderbird is
2.0.0.23). Still segfaults thus:

expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Tahoma 9.7490234375'

[Bug 288765] Re: eog will not open if set to display collection.

2009-02-15 Thread Todd Lewis
Pedro, yes, I'm still seeing this behavior, but I've been able to
isolate it to a particular relevant piece of information: It only seems
to happen if the folder containing the images is on a vfat file system.

I installed the libs you indicated, and ran eog under gdb until it hung,
did a ^C and bt, and here's the first part of what I got. There's
probably a better way to get useful information, but I don't do this low
level stuff very much. (Is it obvious?)

As described above, running eog filename.jpg hangs before opening any window
as described above when on vfat file system with view collection enabled at a
previous eog close. At that point strace shows:
 ~$ strace -p 7696
Process 7696 attached - interrupt to quit
 futex(0x85f3000, 0x80 /* FUTEX_??? */, 2

However, running
$ strace -f  eog img_0528.jpg
does not hang. (You get a lot of messages indicating eog is probably doing a
bunch of polling it shouldn't be doing, but that's a different problem
altogether.) It opens the window (eventually), displays the image and the
collection (eventually), and responds to actions. Well, eventually; strace
really slows things down, which I suspect is part of why it seems to work under
strace and not when running flat out.

Hope something in here is helpful. -- Todd

[Bug 309578] Re: thunderbird segfaults after password prompt

2009-01-26 Thread Todd Lewis
Did you mean that it works with the font Tohoma?

No. It was the trying to use the Tohoma font that evidently caused the
segfault. Or was perhaps the first domino in a chain reaction. At any
rate, removing the Tohoma font (which had been copied along with a bunch
of other TrueType fonts from an old Windows system) got rid of the
warning message and the subsequent segfault.

I don't know that there's anything wrong with the Tohoma TrueType font
per se, but even if there is, it's too bad Thunderbird is susceptible to
segfaults due to (bad?) fonts. Makes one wonder if there's an
exploitable weakness there...

[Bug 309578] Re: thunderbird segfaults after password prompt

2009-01-15 Thread Todd Lewis
This crash went away after removing the Tahoma truetype font that had
been copied over from an old Windows box.

The warning said failed to create cairo scaled font, expect ugly
output. the offending font is 'Tahoma 9.75', but I think a segfault is
a step beyond ugly output. Oh well, it's working now. Cheers,

[Bug 288765] Re: eog will not open if set to display collection.

2008-12-22 Thread Todd Lewis
This still happens with Hardy with updates through 2008.12.22.
GNOME eog 2.22.3
.xsession-errors contains the following message:

** (eog:12052): WARNING **: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

strace shows this:

$ strace -p 11929
Process 11929 attached - interrupt to quit
futex(0x8404998, 0x80 /* FUTEX_??? */, 2

Further info: The only recovery procedure I've found is to:
 1. kill all hung eog processes running in the background (ps; kill ... or
reboot)
 2. open eog from the command line with no parameters
 3. when eog opens (which is will in this case with no parms), go to the View
menu and un-check Image collection
 4. exit, so the persistent setting is saved
Restarting eog from the Image Viewer context menu works again.

[Bug 155828] Re: package moodle-book 1.6.3-1 failed to install/upgrade:

2008-07-22 Thread Todd Lewis
Sorry, Pascal, but that was back in October, and I have since upgraded
to Ubuntu 8.04. The /var/log/dist-upgrade/ files from the 7.10 upgrade
have been overwritten. There's no reference to moodle in the extant
files. The original bug report was generated during the 7.10 upgrade
process.

For what it's worth, I just did an
  apt-get install moodle-book
and it seemed to go just fine.

Sorry I can't be or more assistance.
