Yes, that works!

I tested twice, with a non-working ps in the middle just to make sure it
wasn't some random success :-)

lpr -P TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -o raw
printout_testpage_noncompressed_chris_nottf_20140325.ps
works!

lpr -P TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -o raw
printout_testpage_really_noncompressed_chris_20140324_2
does not work (as expected)

lpr -P TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -o raw
printout_testpage_noncompressed_chris_nottf_20140325.ps
works!

Cheers,
Tomas

[Bug 998087] Re: printer ERROR: invalidaccess OFFENDING COMMAND: filter

2014-03-24 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Same error here. Runnning a newly installed trust tahr, 14.04, beta.
Fully updated.

Using a Toshiba eStudio 2050c.
Install works fine in Ubuntu (choosing a slightly different printer model, or
using file from Toshiba).
When printing I get the error pages described above. Both printing PDF or
printer test page (i.e. no printing works).

Switching to poppler with:
lpadmin -p TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -o
pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops
makes printing work.
Removing the setting with:
lpadmin -p TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -R pdftops-renderer-default
reverts to non working.

If someone proivide me instructions how to get the PS output I can run
commands with the two different settings and send them over. I am not
fluent in cups at all so I need some help to help debug it.

[Bug 978120] Re: Toshiba Estudio 230 printer driver bug

2014-03-24 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I am getting identical error message using Toshiba eStiduo 2050c.

A fresh installed Trust Tahr, 14.04 beta. Using a Toshiba eStudio 2050c
printer over network. I was using this printer since a long time before
on different Ubuntus, until I now reinstalled clean with 14.04.

Adding printer works fine. It is detected and all looks good. Using
default install with driver TOSHIBA e-STUDIO3510cSeries (standard
included in Ubuntu and used to work before).

Print test page reports:

Page 1:
blank

Page 2:
ERROR:

Page 3:
PS error: invalidaccess

Running the command:
lpadmin -p TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -o
pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops
(where I got the name from lpadmin -v)

And make a print test page again, results in a good test page.

Running the command:
lpadmin -p TOSHIBA-TEC-TOSHIBA-e-STUDIO-Series -R pdftops-renderer-default

Causes error again.

I will make a PS collection using instructions on page:

[Bug 495009] Re: Gedit automatically scroll to wrong position upon mouse click

2012-12-05 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Having severe issues with Gedit in Ubuntu 12.10.

Open a file in Gedit, use scroll wheel on mouse to scroll. Go to another
window, like eclipse. Go back to Gedit (alt-tab) and move scroll wheel.
The cursor always jumps down to the last lines of the file, even if the
cursor is located in the beginning of the file.

Basically makes gedit almost useless.

I do not have ginc installed.

Just after I had installed Kubuntu 10.04 LTS Beta 2 and restarted the
computer I could at last see the Kubuntu pymouth theme. I could see that

[Bug 356190] [NEW] [Zepto NOX] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

Machine Zepto Nox A15.
Not the same symptoms as other suspend/resume reports I checked.

Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?

Going to sleep works. Waking up does not.

 Is it reproducible?

100%

 Did it work before?

Nope. Did not work in 8.10 either.

Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar?

No. Caps lock still works, I can toggle caps-lock even when resume has
failed.

 Other information

Was running with the power supply plugged in.
When resuming the computer seemingly wakes up. Then the screen goes black
(blacker then when the machine is turned of) and I can not do anything.

tried ctrl-alt-delete etc, nothing results in any activity.

[Bug 356190] Re: [Zepto NOX] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Actually I got some life signs. I logged into a failsafe terminal and did sudo
pm-suspend. When I resumed I could vaguely make out my terminal window, it's
just that the screen is completely dimmed. Inn the terminal however I could not
run any command, just getting an Input/Output error.
I am running with an encrypted disk (installed with alternate CD).
Needles to say I can't adjust/increase the screen brightness...

[Bug 299231] [NEW] evince crashes with SIGSEGV

2008-11-17 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

Each time I try to open the following pdf evince crashes with a
segmentation fault: ftp://ftp.dlink.se/Data%20sheets/dir-451.pdf

I'm not that into debugging but I followed
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Backtrace to create a backtrace that hopefully
will do some good. Sorry if this's allready posted.

Btw I'm running Ubuntu 8.10

OpenOffice, Firefox 3 and Abiword. I haven't had the problem in Skype,
does it have anything todo with that Skype uses qt4 and not GTK?

Re: [Bug 190664] Re: [XPS M1530] Wireless don't work (need to use 'noapic' kernel boot param)

2008-09-19 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I did that as well (why I didn't report it I don't know) but it wasn't
even detected as remembered it. I didn't do any thorough test or
anything like that so perhaps a few reboots would solve it. By
unloading and loading the iwl3945 module I get the following message
in Intrepid:

[10865.482145] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network
Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks
[10865.482158] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2008 Intel Corporation
[10865.482245] iwl3945 :0b:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 17 (level, low) - IRQ 17
[10865.482270] iwl3945 :0b:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[10865.482301] iwl3945: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG
[10865.488018] iwl3945: Error: saturation power is -1, less than
minimum expected 40
[10865.488024] iwl3945: Invalid power index
[10865.488029] iwl3945: initializing regulatory failed: -5

[10865.499581] iwl3945: probe of :0b:00.0 failed with error -5

If my memory isn't failing on me then that's more or less identical to
the messages I got in Hardy.

Best regards

/Tomas tomplast Gustavsson

Btw, I'm currently running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 right now, no
wireless is detected there for me.
2008/9/18 Leann Ogasawara [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hi Guys,

Wow, you shouldn't need to do any sort of patching/building of custom
kernels to test. The easiest way to test will be to burn a LiveCD of
the latest alpha image which uses this newer 2.6.27 kernel.
 http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 . Alpha6 will come out
likely today/tomorrow if you'd like to wait and test the most recent,
just watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha6 to hit.

checked my /etc/timezone file and found out that I was living in

Re: [Bug 190664] Re: [XPS M1530] Wireless don't work (need to use 'noapic' kernel boot param)

2008-09-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
kcheck was working just fine but sadly I have to say that the results
were not good :(.

I loaded mac80211 and iwl3945 and I couldn't even get my system to
recognize the wireless-thingy, before in the standard kernel for
Ubuntu 8.04.1 the system did recognize the wireless-thingy. The
output from dmesg:

[ 184.025780] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network
Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26k
[ 184.025787] iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2008 Intel Corporation
[ 184.025848] iwl3945 :0b:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 17 (level, low) - IRQ 17
[ 184.025870] iwl3945 :0b:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 184.025892] iwl3945: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 3945ABG
[ 184.031465] iwl3945: Error: saturation power is -1, less than
minimum expected 40
[ 184.031472] iwl3945: Invalid power index
[ 184.031476] iwl3945: initializing regulatory failed: -5
[ 184.042932] iwl3945 :0b:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 184.043663] iwl3945: probe of :0b:00.0 failed with error -5

Perhaps there were some step that I missed?

2008/9/4 Andrey Khanov [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
I believe you have to download the 2.6.26 source code, then patch it to
 2.6.27 from kernel.org

Use KernelCheck, it will make your life easier.

 http://kcheck.sourceforge.net/
Run it as root/sudo, expand More Information, Latest Kernel Prepatch
should be some sort of 2.6.27.
Expand New Kernel Patch Options and select Development Prepatch. Now
click Program in the menu bar and select build new kernel. It will
automatically download necessary source code for you, run xconfig, and
 compile it.
During the xconfig stage, be very carefull to select the correct
configuration, as I saw that the automatic configuration was not correct for
me. The most important thing is that for iwl3945 to work, mac80211 needs to
be enabled (dont remember where that option is, somewhere under networking).
Save the configuration, close the window, and then go take a coffee break
while the kernel compiles. After you install it, you will probably have to
 reinstall graphics card drivers.

I will make another attempt, but first it would be great if you could
give me url of where I can find the 2.6.27 kernel for Hardy. I found

the url I'll give you some result ;).

Thanks for all the testing everyone. It seems we have some conflicting
results which is never good. Ricardo, since you are the original bug
reporter can you comment if this is resolved for you with the newer
2.6.27 Intrepid kernel? Alpha5 should come out tomorrow so you can wait
and test via a LiveCD if you like.

Tomas, would you be able to attach your dmesg output from when you
booted with the 2.6.27 kernel. Thanks.

have any ide how I change it back? I have tried the normal Keyboard

No progress at all? Thankfully I have a wireless adapter so I can still
surf (wireless). I haven't made any thorough tests myself but has anyone
tested if it does matter how long the computer have been shutted of or
if you run it on battery power or not? Perhaps disabling power saving
for wireless (and saving settings permanently) and doing a reboot will
solve it?

[Bug 221484] Re: current user is missing

2008-04-26 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I'm not so sure that this is an issue with users-admin anymore. If I log
out I can only see the newly created user in the list but not my regular
user account I have used for like at least a ½ year. Any ideas?

Ubuntu is not only for people with English as mother tounge, therefore
claws-mail should depend on claws-mail-i18n so as many as possible can

[Bug 206639] [NEW] default applications are wrong

2008-03-25 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsn

The first time in aMSN you must chose which software aMSN will call upon
when somebody wants to open a file, open a link to a web page etc. This
shouldn't be the case so I have created a little patch (nothing fancy,
trust me) which maked aMSN use xdg-open per default.

xdg-open is a part of xdg-utils (at least in Ubuntu 7.10) and get's
installed in all official Ubuntu distros form the beginning.

I didn't want to change the default for playing sounds (play) because I
don't know if xdg-open would handle it that good. One other option is to
change the depedency of aMSN to include sox, that's out of my reach.

I hope this will be accepted, having to change something the first time you use
it to get it working is not acceptable in my world. Simple fixes are often the
best ;).

2008-03-25 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Hmm, isn't sensible-* tools for Debian only. I know that we targetting
Ubuntu-users here but isn't it better to use a tool which is distro-
neutral, and as far as I can see sensible-* doesn't offer any advantages
over xdg-open in terms of functions.

But I guess it's up to the maintainers to decide about this, personally
you know where my vote goes.

[Bug 189074] [NEW] pidgin uses wrong desktop path

2008-02-04 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

When I try to save one avatar picture that one of my MSN contacts has it
first try to save it into the folder Desktop. That would be very true
and good if Desktop was my desktop, but it isn't. As I have selected
Swedish as my language and the name of the Desktop folder is not
Desktop but Skrivbord.

I know this isn't a major issue but still it's a little annoying. Such a
small thing shouldn't be too hard to fix.

[Bug 103742] Re: IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-10 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I see... But it shouldn't be right to use some simple script in the next
update that did use regular expression to replace hd with sd. I am not a
regular expression guru but replacing text isn't that hard. It isn't
good if this can happen to inexperienced users that can't or doesn't
want to learn what fstab is, since this fix is simple (at least from my
pov) it should be done because it could help others who also were
affected by this.

[Bug 103742] Re: IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-07 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
My fstab looked like this (before and) after the upgrade:

/dev/hdb1 /media/hdb1 ext3
defaults0 0

so I changed it to:

/dev/sdb1 /media/hdb1 ext3
defaults0 0

Not any rocket science here but still annoying, at least for the non-geeky
person who doesn't wants to do this kind of things. Maybe I just had bad luck
here, hopefully (or should I say not perhaps) we will see others who can verify
the problem.

[Bug 103742] IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

After last upgrade (6 April) my Feisty installation have gone mad. Now
my 2nd IDE-hdd (hdb) is now detected as sdb and afaik this means that it
believes it's a scsi-hdd. Can anyone tell me why this is so?

[Bug 103742] Re: IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
This is absolutly a bug!

Before the upgrade all the links I had worked perfectly and now I need
to change them to make them work. I also need to add my new-named
partition on the 2nd drive (hdb1 before now sdb1) to /etc/fstab. This is
not user-friendly! I know that Feisty is not finished yet but if this is
what the users can expect when (if) they upgrade from Edgy to Feisty
later on then I'm truely worried.

Some kind of message or some kind of thing that replaced hd with sd in
/etc/fstab and not removed it would be nice...

Maybe I'm not making myself clear, I don't know. I just know that this is
slightly irritating. I hope someone fixes this, please. I will now add my
partition to fstab, nothing hard but still not user-friendly.

[Bug 103742] Re: IDE-hdd detected as SCSI

2007-04-06 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Sorry I was wrong. It didn't remove my mount-thingy in /etc/fstab, it
just didn't change it from hdb1 to sdb1, which I think would be great if
it did automatically just because of this naming change (which the user
shouldn't have to worry about).

[Bug 89497] Language is faulty in the console

2007-03-03 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

I don't know exactly how to explain this but I will do my best.

When I start my computer and get an X-error I login to a console (like
CTRL+F2) to fix it. This works perfectly, but when I have runned sudo
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg the text in the dialog (I use swedish) is
distorted and where the swedish characters would be I can only see weird
charachters like |.

I'm running a previous Edgy Eft system which have been upgraded to
Feisty Fawn. I also think that I haven't seen this problem when the
X-server starts without problem.

wine appears as categories in gnome-app-install. I'm currently on my

[Bug 79638] Screen turns black at Feisty installation.h

2007-01-16 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
Public bug reported:

I have tried both with my own computer and also with Qemu but each time
I try to install Ubuntu 7.04 (20070111.1) the screen turns black as I
press Forward at the Keyboard layout -section in Ubiquity.

I have also tried to install via safe graphics mode but it didn't
help.

As I have the same problem with Qemu I assume this can't be hardware
related, right?

2006-12-08 Thread Tomas Gustavsson
I think has something todo with the bridging i think. I have the same
problem so I just go with network-dummy configuration for Xen.

My second problem is that my computer freezes (running with Xenman) when
I try to start a DomU (i think it's called). When i run from the
terminal i get some error about hotplug...
