[Bug 1975778] Re: 22.04 raspi image needs larger boot partition
I have no idea which package sets the size of the vfat partition. I downloaded the image, wrote it to a usb3-connected dual drive (raid1) enclosure and plugged it into a pi 4. Booted and followed the instructions from there. I'm running mirrored 2 tb drives. Public bug reported: After installing updates to jammy 22.04 on my pi 4, i was getting warning messages about the vfat partition mounted on /boot/firmware being low on space. The updates included kernel updates. My workaround for now is rm /boot/firmware/*.bak Rather than muck around with gparted, I will just delete these *.bak files after each kernel upgrade. OK that matches what we have observed elsewhere. [Bug 1953052] Re: In Jammy sound level reset after reboot
Sebastien, if distribution is intended to provide pipewire function for video only, there is no need to install audio parts. At very least 'with-pulse' 'with-jack' and other files directly or transitively enabling 'with-audio' pipewire parts should not be installed so pipewire media session daemon does not get hold of hardware controls. Alternatively, if distribution is intended to provide pulseaudio interface via pipewire, that should be properly switching pulseaudio activation socket to pipewire-pulse, and/or disabling or uninstalling pulseaudio daemon and maybe disabling pulseaudio autospawn in client.conf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1953052 Title: In Jammy sound level reset after reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-utils/+bug/1953052/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1912935] Re: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown
I ran one more test (twice) since my last comment. Following the resolution of a StackExchange answer I found [1], I can confirm that when I run Manjaro on Linux 4.14.248-1, even with sleep/suspend, I don't face any heavy overnight battery drain. == Test 4: 1. Boot (and wait a few seconds after signing in). 2. Open some applications and use them a bit (firefox, yakuake, konsole, nvim, node) - about 1 minute. 3. Close all applications. 4. Close the lid of my laptop to trigger sleep/suspend (I'm sure that closing the lid does indeed cause the OS to sleep - confirmed by double checking the corresponding setting from the system settings UI as well as from the journalctl logs). 5. Wait for around 10-20 seconds. 6. Open lid and sign back in. 7. Wait 10 seconds. 8. shutdown and wait for 5 seconds after all of the lights have gone out before closing the lid. Results: - 2% drain (58% -> 56%) in exactly 4 hours powered off. - 2% drain (100% -> 98%) in exactly 17 hours and 33 minutes powered off (yes, that's 17 (seventeen) hours - not a typo). Conclusion: - We now have a "last stable" version and a "known broken" version, it's possible for one to begin bisecting the kernel version that introduced this issue. - I understand that this bug report is for Linux/Ubuntu, but seeing as to how it's now clear that this is due to the Linux Kernel itself and not the distro, my data should still provide some degree of value here despite it being collected on a Linux/Manjaro. == [1] https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/409774/manjaro-on-hp- laptop-battery-drain-while-powered-off -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912935 Title: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1912935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1912935] Re: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown
I've collected some more data and it seems to suggest that maybe suspend/sleep has something to do with this? = Test 1: 1. Boot (and wait a few seconds after signing in). 2. Suspend/Sleep (using the "sleep" button from Manjaro/KDE's GUI). 3. Wait 20 seconds. 4. Wake from sleep. 5. Wait 20 seconds again. 6. Poweroff (and not the time and percentage just before doing so). 7. Wait a few more seconds before closing the lid. Result: 12% drain (100% -> 88%) in exactly 2 hours powered off. Note: All of the data points from my previous comment were done with Sleep/Suspend being one of the steps of my test workflow. In this new version of the test, I test for a shorter period of time and have not opened any applications during the test workflow. = Test 2: 1. Boot (and wait a few seconds after signing in). 2. Open some applications and use them a bit (Firefox, VS Code, Yakuake, FZF) - about 1 or 2 minutes. 3. Close all applications. 4. Poweroff (and not the time and percentage just before doing so). This time I forgot to wait a few seconds after powering off before closing the lid (but I *did* at least wait till all the lights turned off) Results: 2% drain (88% -> 86%) in exactly 6 hours powered off. 1% drain (32% -> 31%) in exactly 9 hours powered off. Results when I don't open any applications: 1% drain (44% -> 43%) in exactly 2 hours powered off (run 1). So it seems like opening applications doesn't have anything to do with this (as expected). = Test 3: (no formally described steps this time) Results when I force powered off from my bootloader menu (currently, that's rEFInd): 1% drain (47% -> 46%) in exactly 2 hours powered off. Results when I shutdown from my BIOS/UEFI menu (interrupt the boot process and go straight to the UEFI menu): 0% drain (100% -> 100%) in exactly 6 hours and 20 minutes powered off. = Conclusion: I'm pretty sure that there's no BIOS v/s Bootloader issue here and that the difference in the rate of battery drain is negligible. I'm also pretty sure that as long as I don't let my laptop sleep/suspend on Manjaro (running Linux 5.10 or Linux 5.13) it's fine. Could this help in identifying the source of the bug? Could someone else please conduct similar experiments so that we can cross-validate the results? Perhaps someone on Ubuntu or some other operating system that's *not* Manjaro (just so that we can rule out the operating system as a variable in this) Once again, please let me know if I can help by collecting more data/logs/etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912935 Title: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1912935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1912935] Re: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown
Oh, I should mention that I faced the same issue when running Ubuntu 18.04 (DE: XFCE) last year. Sadly, I don't recall which version of the kernel I was running - the damage to my battery ended up getting so bad that by the end of the year, my battery lost it's capacity to hold charge and I had to replace it (got warnings from OEM software on Windows, as well as on boot - before the bootloader menu loaded).
Hello. I would just like to mention that I, too, face this same exact issue. I'm running Manjaro and can confirm that I observe this issue on both Linux 5.10.70-1 and Linux 5.13.9-2. After a full week of testing I can confirm that I face this power drain only when gracefully shutting down from Linux. Basic hardware specs: OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64 Host: HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cc1xx Kernel: 5.10.70-1-MANJARO Resolution: 1920x1080 DE: Plasma 5.22.5 WM: KWin CPU: Intel i7-8550U (8) @ 4.000GHz GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX Bios: InsydeH20 f.36 Rev 5 Some timings I've recorded: - 44% drain in 9h20m - 36% drain in 6h48m - 32% drain in 5h35m When sifting through the system logs using journalctl I didn't find anything that stuck out as unusually suspicious. No errors as far as I can tell - but honestly, I don't know enough about Linux to be 100% sure so please don't hold me to this. I can attach these logs if needed. Commands used: - journalctl -b -1 -r - journalctl /sbin/init -b -1 -r | grep -i shutdown - journalctl /sbin/init -b -1 -p err..alert Like asgard2 I can confirm that I do not have wake-on-lan enabled (my system doesn't support it in the first place as confirmed by the lack of an option in my UEFI menu and no indication from ethtool), no usb ports providing power when shutdown, no noticible power drain when shutting down from the UEFI menu or from Windows, etc. basically everything they have reported above. I'd love to help get this fixed - if I can help out by providing more data, please let me know.
[Bug 1888598] Re: Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake
I believe there is no defined order in which audio devices are resuming, which makes them appear to pulseaudio in random order. This is probably causing pulseaudio module-switch-on-connect to flip user preference to each appearing device in same (random) order. If you do not use this function you can disable module-switch-on-connect or use it's blacklist to prevent your preference flipping between devices. Pulseaudio itself is not aware of suspend/resume function. I do not know if there is any system callback that confirms that system completed resume sequence and everything is back (including access rights to audio devices) so fixing this issue in full will be not a trivial task. With pulseaudio-15.0 update you can tell pulseaudio to always select specified profile when device appears. This also is not a complete solution, but you can either make sure your HDMI is always off or is always using the profile with your preferred port: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/15.0/#cardprofilescanbesettosticky Pavucontrol 5.0 has easy button for this, or use pactl send-message as described in release notes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888598 Title: Pulseaudio breaks HDMI audio on sleep/wake To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1888598/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1774632] Re: The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default
Using Ubuntu 20.04.3 latest update Oct 19th After the one but last update Oct 10th suddenly I had a problem resolving DNS. Before the update my /etc/resolv.conf read : nameserver 127.0.0.53 In my netmanager settings I had/have entered 2 DNS-Server IP adresses of my ISP : 1xx.2xx.xxx.21 1xx.2xx.xxx.22 the result of command $ ls -al /etc/resolv.conf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 32 okt 13 14:10 /etc/resolv.conf -> /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf So I did $ sudo rm -f /etc/resolv.conf $ sudo ln -s /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf Only to find it didn't change anything : the content of new /etc/resolv.conf after restarting the systemd-resolve service still reads nameserver ::1 I managed to complete the updates by repeatedly saving manually an /etc/resolv.conf file and overwriting the file written by the systemd- resolve service (workaround). to make certain that people don't doubt my capacity to read : I DO understand the warning at the top of the file saying that the file is overwritten regularly. I manage to maintain a "usable connection" by regularly overwriting the file /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf, with following content nameserver 1xx.2xx.xxx.21 nameserver 1xx.2xx.xxx.22 until i restart the systemd-resolve service and the file is overwritten by resolve and it reverts to nameserver ::1 I also checked the /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf file which has the following content nameserver 127.0.0.53 options edns0 trust-ad My question is : A- How can I make sure that the resolve service writes the correct file content in /etc/resolv.conf = I do understand that this is a sym-link B- Where is the parameter file that systemd-resolve uses to produce /etc/resolv.conf and /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf, because it sure doesn't read the configuration entered in netmanager settings -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774632 Title: The symbolic link /etc/resolv.conf points to the wrong file by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1774632/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can we please have the following patch back-ported for 18.04.5 updates https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake/-/commit/ac5731a7e380349f19dc319e6c31e189b5faba93 I've checked that the patch can be applied clearly on top of the 3.10.2, it is simple and self-consistent, so I don't expect that it will break something else. I've also verified that the patch indeed fixes the issue for me. Since the patch affects only CMake module and don't requires cmake rebuild it was simple enough. [Bug 1609342] Re: Gnome-terminal sets directory to HOME for ctrl-shift-n and custom shell command
Hi, So, this is affecting me on Ubuntu 20.04 - gnome-terminal no longer preserves the current working directory in bash upon opening a new window (or tab) from the context menu. Does anyone know what's going on? The /etc/profile.d/vte-2.91.sh script is being sourced correctly, but I believe that it only has to do with the pwd in the titlebar, which is also working. Switching to fish as proposed on StackOverflow is not an option... [Bug 1456338] Re: USB floppy drive is running without floppy
I found a partial workaround to this problem: The solution has been tested under Ubuntu 14.04 and should work also on more recent versions of Ubuntu. This solution works only for the cheap Teac USB floppy controllers (for other usb controllers you will maybe have to adapt the solution yourself): In the terminal simply type lsscsi (if it's not installed type sudo apt- get install lsscsi): Output: [6:0:0:0]diskTEAC USB UF000x 0.00 If you don't see TEAC and USB UF000x when the floppy drive is connected, this solution is not for you. Create this file with administrative privileges : /etc/udev/rules.d/00-teacfloppy.rules Paste in this line: ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="block", ATTR{removable}=="1", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0644", ATTRS{idProduct}=="", ATTR{events_poll_msecs}="-1" Save and reboot. The drive will seek for a few seconds then the motor will quickly stop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456338 Title: USB floppy drive is running without floppy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1456338/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1576559] Re: Refused to switch profile to headset_head_unit: Not connected
Hi! I had the same problem with JBL TUNE500BT Headphones on Ubuntu 20.04. I did a kernel update to 5.8.9-050809-generic version using ubuntu- mainline-kernel.sh script [1]. I also uninstalled ofono and ofono- phonesim which I installed earlier when trying to fix this problem and reverted any changes I did to the default.pa file. It seems to be working now, but audio quality is awful when using HSP/HFP, which is related to another bug [2]. I don't know if it's a good solution, but maybe it will help someone.
