[Bug 1588637] Re: iwlwifi: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000
I had the same issue as reported here. I noticed at boot that the driver was failing to load its primary firmware choice, falling back to a different version: [3.538299] iwlwifi :04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7260-17.ucode failed with error -2 [3.541299] iwlwifi :04:00.0: loaded firmware version 16.242414.0 op_mode iwlmvm I checked /lib/firmware and the highest version I had there was iwlwifi-7260-16.ucode, which corresponds to 16.242414.0 in the logs above. I decided to rename iwlwifi-7260-16.ucode to prevent it from being loaded, as this would allow the driver to fall back onto the next best firmware file, iwlwifi-7260-13.ucode. This didn't help. To fix this problem I looked at https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi#firmware and downloaded iwlwifi-7260-17.ucode (via git) and copied it into /lib/firmware, then rebooted. I haven't had any issue since applying this fix, where previously I'd be getting a firmware crash once every 15-30 minutes. This new firmware file is not present in linux-firmware 1.157.3 that I have on my Xenial box, but it does seem to be included in linux-firmware 1.161 as part of Yakkety, so I suggest downloading and installing it: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/yakkety/amd64/linux-firmware/1.161 It would be great if this update was pushed to Xenial as well in order to mitigate the issues we're seeing. Judging by the fact that downgrading to a previous firmware version didn't seem to help (so the issue was not caused by a firmware upgrade), but upgrading did help, I suspect that a recent change in iwlwifi or the kernel is causing the wifi to fail unless it is using the new firmware in iwlwifi-7260-17.ucode. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1588637 Title: iwlwifi: Microcode SW error detected. [Bug 371312] Re: cpufreq-applet: shows 2.54/2.53/1.6/800 Steps
I have the same symptoms, but my question is different: Why is there a 800 MHz frequency option? I am asking this because: 1. There's no such frequency when running Windows with every driver correctly installed and checking the real-time frequency with CPU-Z. The minimum frequency available in Windows is 1600 MHz. 2. It's physically impossible for the CPU to reach that frequency given that the minimum multiplier for a Core 2 Duo processor is 6x, which, given its FSB of 1066 MHz (quad pumped, meaning 266 MHz real clock), gives a minimum frequency of 6x 266 MHz = 1600 MHz, just as reported by Windows. Sebastien, as far as ubuntu.com is concerned, Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) is the *current* version. There's no mention about karmic, which I suppose is the development version. Update: I'm using a laptop with an external monitor. Laptop resolution is 1024x768, external VGA monitor resolution is 1280x1024. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: laptop-mode-tools When enabling battery polling in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/battery-level- polling.conf, switching to battery results in crashing the laptop with 100% CPU usage, most of it being IOWait. [Bug 359392] Re: [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd
I am having an issue with Jaunty on i915. Using Metacity, the CPU gets slowly but surely eaten up with no obvious process eating up the CPU cycles. top shows no process taking more than 5-10% CPU time, while the System Monitor panel applet shows the CPU at 100% usage, with IOWait eating up most of it. When this happens I gradually lose control of the system, where sometimes I can reboot it, while other times it just freezes trying to do it. Most programs stop responding when this happens. Switching to text mode doesn't help as bash can't get enough CPU time to initialize. I can reboot with the Magic SysRq key. I can trigger this easily while on battery, usually within 5-10 minutes of normal usage (browsing, reading PDFs etc). My question is if this bug is related to the above described symptoms, or is it a completely different bug that's affecting me? [Bug 363822] [NEW] battery design capacity is reported incorrecly
Public bug reported: On a HP Compaq nc6220 using Jaunty RC (but also on Intrepid) the reported design capacity is wrong. [Bug 363496] [NEW] laptop-mode doesn't always honor cpufreq.conf
Public bug reported: I've had this problem in Intrepid and now in Jaunty freshly installed from RC. I have configured the following in /etc/laptop- mode/conf.d/cpufreq.conf: BATT_CPU_GOVERNOR=ondemand LM_AC_CPU_GOVERNOR=performance NOLM_AC_CPU_GOVERNOR=performance I was expecting my CPU to use the performance governor and stay at maximum frequency when on AC and use the ondemand governor and vary between minimum and maximum frequency based on CPU load when on battery. What I am getting is a sort of random behavior, where sometimes I have the performance governor when running on battery and ondemand governor when running on AC. [Bug 43293] Re: Fn+F4 doesn't switch to ext monitor Compaq 4020us (all other Fn keys fine)
Running Ubuntu 8.10 with latest updates installed. Running point #2 shows that an event is not seen on Fn+F4. Tried running it also form console, but it complained about being unable to open the display. I've realised that trying to switch to external monitor only works from the console (CTRL+ALT+F1). Any idea why it takes 2 keypresses to activate the console? The first attempt brings me back into X. Output of #4 is attached below. At #7 I tried every input, 0-8 worked. Only input 1 sensed anything while pressing Fn+F4, but it also reacted to other keypresses. I would have attached the full output of the #7 command, but for some reason every time I try to redirect it to a file, the file stays empty. I'll try to reproduce it here: EV_NSC code=4 value=62 EV_SYN code=0 value=0 This is what always appears for Fn+F4. As you can see in the outout of #4, there's no input.keys for input 1 and input.x11_driver is set to evdev, but X doesn't see it so this would mean filing a bug against hal. For the remaining part of #7, issuing cat /usr/include/linux/input.h | grep EV_NSC finds nothing, while issuing cat /usr/include/linux/input.h | grep EV_SYN finds #define EV_SYN 0x00. For #9, the value needed is up above. the output of lshal | grep system.hardware is attached below. #10, no other input devices reacts to Fn+F2. #11-13 not needed. [Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview
Still a problem in Intrepid. Removed 10* and 53* links and still the problem is there. Most annoying is for 8pt Mono fonts in gnome-terminal, which does in no way resemble what the preview and gedit show. Somehow the font spacing is different in gnome-terminal than what it should be. Check attached images for more details. PS: is it me or is the lcddefault LCD filter much much worse than the default LCD filter, whichever that may be. Removing the 11-lcd-filter- lcddefault.conf symlink was a revelation for me, giving me Windows-like crisp fonts. ** Attachment added: gnome-terminal-8pt-bug.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21717254/gnome-terminal-8pt-bug.png -- font in terminal does not resemble font in preview https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226415] Re: Wi-fi with WPA an ipw2200 disconnects
I've been having random problems with my ipw2200 card on a HP nc6220 running a fresh Intrepid x86. For starters, I've enabled the LED following the instructions here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/21367 On random occasions I've seen the LED blink while connected, sound/music sometimes stutters when that happens, then everything goes back to normal until it blinks again at a radon time. I haven't given it much attention until now. Lately I've been having this problem where the wireless just disconnects (while other wireless clients remain attached and working). So far the work-around has been to disable and re-enable the wireless card using the wireless button on my laptop. That has worked until now, when this happened again. I tried disabling networking by right clicking on the nm-applet icon, and re-enabling it again to see if that makes it work without having to resort to the on/off wireless button. That didn't work so I tried the old method of disabling the wireless and re-enabling it from the button. Weirdly enough that didn't work either. The only way I could make it work again was to reboot. What I'm speculating right now is that when the LED blinks, the wireless disconnects and reconnects again for some weird reason. But sometimes it just can't re-connect and goes dead. Why it stopped working at all today I have no clue. Please see the attached (edited) daemon.log. If there are any other files needed, please let me know. ** Attachment added: daemon.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20881666/daemon.log -- Wi-fi with WPA an ipw2200 disconnects https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226415 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
