[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2020-07-31 Thread Vicky Jadhav
@axt thank you for the update. But the problem is my BIOS has now become read
only. Earlier last year, I tried to upgrade ubuntu from 17 to 19 and since then
the BIOS has become read only. If I make any changes it will not get saved.
That's my main issue.
I cannot boot from USB,
I cannot boot from DVD etc..

My default first boot device is Ubuntu and then windows and then USB and
network.. etc..

Even if I do f12 and select boot from USB it doesn't work.

@axt I even tried flashing the BIOS it does not boot from my Pen drive. I
downloaded the latest version of UEFI as per BIOS Update for Windows 7 (32-bit,
64-bit), Windows 8 (64-bit) , Windows 8.1 (64-bit), Windows10 (64-bit) - Lenovo
Z40-70, Z50-70
and tried to execute the package from windows 8 os but after reboot nothing
happens. the Bios version is not changed and the bios is still not saving any
changes what ever changes I do in it.

now I have removed the ubuntu and deleted few partitations of Linux
using partition magic.

but now the system partition where the UEFI files are there is still
there.

Last night I tried to run pratation magic. Assigned a drive letter to the
system partation
then using powershell with admin rights I tried to replace the
grubx64.efi.signed in UEFI folder under Ubuntu but it didn't work

Now I have removed the Ubuntu folder from that partition and now it
directly boots to windows as soon as I start my laptop but my main
concern is to fix the BIOS which is not saving my changes in it.

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2020-07-29 Thread Vicky Jadhav
As per my previous comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1734147/comments/626

I have Lenovo z50 70

I had dual os installed on it.

1) Ubuntu 17x

2) Windows 8

As soon as I boot the laptop. It takes me to the GUNU GRUB Version
2.02~beta2-36Ubuntu3.22 black screen where I see Grub> prompt.

I usually type exit and it shows me boot screen, I then select windows 8
and use windows 8.

Earlier I have errased ubuntu partiations and now stuck with this Grub
screen only.

I am not sure how can I boot into Linux and fix this grub :(

Please help.

Regards,

Vicky Jadhav

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2019-07-03 Thread Vicky Jadhav
I have lenovo laptop z50-70

I followed this step -

Copy grubx64.efi.signed over /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi:
$ sudo cp grubx64.efi.signed /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi

After this I am getting grub prompt. I want to remove that
grubx64.efi.signed file :(

Now its completely dead.

What is the fix for this issue ?

[Bug 1717476] Re: DHCP Transaction ID (xid) is logged with INFO loglevel

2018-01-15 Thread Vicky Risk
Hi Sven - I just became aware of this because of your tweet. We (ISC)
investigated this back in September and determined it was not present in
ISC's distribution. Further, we felt it was not a significant security
issue in any case. I haven't found any issue in our bug database with
your name as reporter, however, so if you can tell me the bugID, I will
make sure it is updated and closed. I sincerely apologize if we dropped
the ball on updating you. If you would like to message me privately, I
would also like to know what alias or ID you pinged so many times,
because I suspect that ended up in a spam filter somewhere - at least I
can't find it in our issue tracker. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug.  I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 360053] [NEW] Bracket matching doesn't refresh after pasing text with brackets

2009-04-12 Thread vicky molokh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When I paste pieces of text that contain brackets, (e.g. '[*]' or
'li'), the brackets are highlighted - as they should. However, when I
move the cursor after that, the brackets stay highlighted instead of
becoming displayed normally.

Happens in Ubuntu Gutsy and later - no idea did it happen in earlier
than this.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

Thanks for your report. I fixed this in Edgy:

partman-auto (54ubuntu2) edgy; urgency=low

  * Fix hang on partman startup if no disks are present.

2007-02-23 Thread Vicky
Hi Daniel,

I am sorry for this. I am new to Ubuntu Support and do not know about
the policies / rules being followed here. Since this option was given
there on the page, I thought it might have to be assigned to someone.

Anyways, Sorry for the inconvinience caused due to this.

Regards.

[Bug 86975] Hard Disk Detection Failure During Installation - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS unable notify User about unavailable Hard Disk

2007-02-22 Thread Vicky
Public bug reported:

Hi Freinds,

I would like to inform you people that while installing Ubuntu 6.06 from
installation CD, I mistakenly forgot to Plug in Power chord of my Sata
HardDrive.

However, the Sytem Booted using the Installer CD and when I clicked on
the install Icon, the installation process started. But the same hanged
where the Disk partitioning section was to be loaded. The installer was
unable to show the partitioner option as there was no Hard Drives
(Although the drive data cable was plugged, but power cable was'nt). On
this the installer process went on showing the progress circle swirling
on, but was unable to notify me that there were no active Hard Drives
attached/powered to the system.

I think it would be better that if Hardware detection mechanism,
searches for available active Hard Disks and notifies the same to the
user, before actually installation process gets started.

Regards...
Vikas.
