[Bug 2060384] [NEW] I'm using an external diplay. When disconnecting the HDMI cable, my laptop screen remains dark (when it should actually activate)+

2024-04-07 Thread Victor
Public bug reported:

I normally don't use the laptop screen, as the external display suits me better.
However, when I disconnect the HDMI cable (and the external screen is no longer
connected), the laptop display should pop back and activate.

This doesn't happen - the laptop display remains dark and I have no
active display.

Upon installing linux-image-6.5.0-26-generic and linux-

In initrd there are no /dev/nvme* devices. It leads to Linux being
unable get past initrd stage and load the desktop.

Something I forgot to mention, and it may be relevant after seeing the

Is it better to rollback to Focal with the default kernel?

2024-03-11 Thread Victor Sartori
Definitely, I'm doing something very wrong.

I deployed a new VM (VMware) through MaaS, using the original initrd.

Applied the patch and did the same things I mentioned in my comment
above.

This time, the keyboard does not work (seems to be stuck; I'm not able
to scroll up to see what happens).

[Bug 2056187] Re: fails to configure BOOTIF when using iscsi

2024-03-08 Thread Victor Sartori
Hello all,

I'm currently testing a patch to generate an initrd image for MAAS with
partial success.

The fix for the network is working well. However, when attempting to
start a server via PXE using MAAS, strange errors are raised:

Warning: Type of the root file system is unknown, so skipping the check.
mount: bad address 'squash'

This leads to an initramfs prompt.

Here are the steps I follow to generate an initramfs:

1. Apply the patch to the script based on /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts.
2. Run the mkinitramfs command.
3. Copy the new initrd file to MAAS.
4. Start the server to boot by network.

I couldn't find clear documentation regarding generation and
troubleshooting. Additionally, I'm unsure if this is the right place to
ask questions about this issue.

I can confirm, this is not a duplicate.
I've updated the wpasupplicant package to the fixes version on Ubuntu 22.04.

wpasupplicant:
  Installed: 2:2.10-6ubuntu1

I've also tried workarounds suggested in comments #22 and #36 both
before after updating the package, but it didn't work.

[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04

Checking https://askubuntu.com/questions/1405901/ubuntu-22-04-ui-issues-
in-app-file-selector-save-prompt-saving-files-and-new-w I can confirm
that it's possible to work around this bug if edit the name of the file
to be saved, just adding any character to the filename and it will be
saved in any folder.

[Bug 1970984] Re: Can't save files in a Folder in a Folder 22.04

2022-04-30 Thread Joao Victor
I tried downloading files using google chrome and firefox and the behavior is
the same. If I try to save the file to my homedir the file is downloaded, if I
try to save to /tmp it also works, but if I try to save to any other folder it
doesn't work, the download doesn't start.
I downloaded firefox in version 91.0.0-esr
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/91.8.0esr/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-91.8.0esr.tar.bz2
And I was able to save files in any folder.

I also noticed that when opening the download window I get the following log
using sudo journalctl -f

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network (e.g. eduroam)

2022-04-26 Thread Victor Hugo Schulz
I was also affected by this issue when updating from 21.10 to 22.04, not on
eduroam but on my university's network.
Workaround from post #22 worked for me, but I simply modified the original file
(/etc/ssl/openssl.cnf).
After reading other comments, I got confused. Is this a bug on Ubuntu's
wpasupplicant or a problem with the university's infrastructure using old
vulnerable authentication methods?
If the latter, how should I report it to university's sysadmin?

[Bug 1965942] [NEW] Netmask should be replaced by Prefix?

2022-03-22 Thread Victor Leser
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS

The page on this subject "Create a connection with a fixed IP address"
for 20.04 mentions in para 5. "Type in the IP Address and Gateway, as
well as the appropriate Netmask." I wanted to do this so that I can
provide a fixed IPv6 address for one of my computers.

The link to the documentation page is

https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/net-fixed-ip-address.html.en

Netmask, which is not shown on the relevant part of the Ubuntu 20.04
Settings page, but there is a box headed "Prefix". Should this replace
the reference to Netmask?

[Bug 1955513] Re: NUC11PAHi7-Tiger Lake

2022-01-10 Thread Victor Estrada
For the audio issue, I did notice that when set to bitstream over HDMI
and surround, it would randomly work (not very often) before logon to
the desktop but audio would quit after. This was a very low occurrence
however of this mode working.

[Bug 1955513] Re: NUC11PAHi7-Tiger Lake

2022-01-10 Thread Victor Estrada
Some more info to add for the HDMI audio issue:
I tried out the hardware on another monitor and it appears that stereo PCM
audio over HDMI works fine. What appears to be broken is surround sound and
bitstream audio over HDMI. This only occurs in Linux/Ubuntu 22.04. In windows
10 everything works as expected.

With respect to wifi:
Issues persist, no further info to add.

2021-08-25 Thread Victor Timofei
This version of htpdate seems to be writing an incorrect pid to the
pidfile.

When I run:
# /usr/sbin/htpdate -D -s -i /run/htpdate.pid www.pool.ntp.org www.wikipedia.org

The pidfile contains:
# cat /run/htpdate.pid
56385

The actual pid:
# pgrep htpdate
580673

[Bug 1845822] Re: marco / mate-session-restore misplaces windows

2021-07-29 Thread Victor Kareh
Hi arQon - I haven't had time to deal with this (it's been a few years -
yikes!).

It's still in my to-do list, but I've been also working on and off on a
rewrite of large portions of marco (and I've had to restart a few
times). If someone else can pick this up in the meantime, that'd be
good.

[Bug 1927078] Re: Don't allow useradd to use fully numeric names

2021-05-04 Thread Victor Tapia
I don't have a strong opinion either, but given that scripts would
ignore the warnings and the resulting numeric users are going to face
random, seemingly unrelated issues thanks to the interaction with
systemd, I think I prefer the failure.

FWIW, I've prepared a test version in a PPA[1] which keeps the rules
from Debian[2] but prevents the fully numeric names. This is what it
looks like:

$ useradd 0
useradd: invalid user name '0'

$ echo $?
3

$ sudo useradd 0c0

$ sudo useradd 0 --badnames

$ cat /etc/passwd | grep ^0
0c0:x:1001:1001::/home/0c0:/bin/sh
0:x:1002:1002::/home/0:/bin/sh

[Bug 1927078] [NEW] Don't allow useradd to use fully numeric names

2021-05-04 Thread Victor Tapia
Public bug reported:

[Description]

Fully numeric names support in Ubuntu is inconsistent in Focal onwards
because systemd does not like them[1] but are still allowed by default
by useradd, leaving the session behavior in hands of the running
applications. Two examples:

1. After creating a user named "0", the user can log in via ssh or
console but loginctl won't create a session for it:

root@focal:/home/ubuntu# useradd -m 0
root@focal:/home/ubuntu# id 0
uid=1005(0) gid=1005(0) groups=1005(0)

..

0@192.168.122.6's password:
Welcome to Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.8.0-48-generic x86_64)

Last login: Thu Apr  8 16:17:06 2021 from 192.168.122.1
$ loginctl
No sessions.

0pts/0192.168.122.116:170.00s  0.00s  0.00s w

And pam-systemd shows the following message:

Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for
user 0 by (uid=0)
Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): pam-systemd
initializing
Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to get user
record: Invalid argument

2. With that same username, every successful authentication in gdm will loop
back to gdm again instead of starting gnome, making the user unable to login.

Making useradd fail (unless --badnames is set) when a fully numeric name is
used will make the default OS behavior consistent.

[Other info]

- Upstream does not support fully numeric usernames
- useradd has a --badnames parameter that would still allow the use of these
type of names

The bug is about my new Acer laptop.

The disk content was copied from an old desktop.

There are no relevant /var/crash/*.crash files.

[Bug 1915811] Re: Empty NUMA topology in machines with high number of CPUs

2021-03-12 Thread Victor Tapia
#VERIFICATION GROOVY

Using the test case described in the description, where a VM has 128
vcpus assigned, the version in -updates does not list the topology:

$ dpkg -l | grep libvirt
ii  libvirt-clients  6.6.0-1ubuntu3.3
amd64Programs for the libvirt library
ii  libvirt-daemon   6.6.0-1ubuntu3.3
amd64Virtualization daemon

amd64Virtualization daemon QEMU connection driver

ii  libvirt-daemon-system-systemd6.6.0-1ubuntu3.3
amd64Libvirt daemon configuration files (systemd)
ii  libvirt0:amd64   6.6.0-1ubuntu3.3
amd64library for interfacing with different virtualization systems

$ virsh capabilities | xmllint --xpath '/capabilities/host/topology' -

The package in -proposed fixes the issue (output shortened):

$ dpkg -l | grep libvirt

[Bug 1915811] Re: Empty NUMA topology in machines with high number of CPUs

2021-03-12 Thread Victor Tapia
#VERIFICATION XENIAL

Using the test case described in the description, where a VM has 128
vcpus assigned, the version in -updates does not list the topology:

$ dpkg -l | grep libvirt
ii  libvirt-bin1.3.1-1ubuntu10.30
   amd64programs for the libvirt library
ii  libvirt0:amd64 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.30
   amd64library for interfacing with different virtualization
systems

$ virsh capabilities | xmllint --xpath '/capabilities/host/topology' -
XPath set is empty

The package in -proposed fixes the issue (output shortened):

$ dpkg -l | grep libvirt
ii  libvirt-bin1.3.1-1ubuntu10.31
   amd64programs for the libvirt library
ii  libvirt0:amd64 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.31
   amd64library for interfacing with different virtualization
systems

$ virsh capabilities | xmllint --xpath '/capabilities/host/topology' -

  4998464
  1249616
  0
  0

...

NOTE: if the machine is running a 4.4 kernel, numa_all_cpus_ptr->size
(used to set max_n_cpus in libvirt) is 512 instead of 128 and the issue
cannot be triggered (libvirt max vcpu is 255). Any newer kernel, such as
HWE, sets the value to 128, triggering the issue.

# AUTOPKGTEST NOTES
Autopkgtest failures in automat are due to a missing package in Ubuntu:
python-twisted-core is missing in Focal (as the rest of python2 packages) but
is required by automat tests. This has been reported in the following bug:

[Bug 1917041] [NEW] Autopkgtest fails to run because python-twisted-core is not available (Focal)

2021-02-26 Thread Victor Tapia
Public bug reported:

Automat 0.8.0-1ubuntu1 defines the following test dependencies in
debian/tests/control:

Tests: unit-tests-2 unit-tests-3
Depends: @,
 graphviz,
 python-twisted-core,
 python3-twisted,
 python3-graphviz,

But Focal dropped python2 support, including python-twisted-core:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/twisted/18.9.0-11

This results in autopkgtest errors such as this one:
https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac/autopkgtest-focal/focal/amd64/a/automat/20210222_180749_ce476@/log.gz

Newer releases do not depend on this package and do not face this issue.

[Bug 1915819] Re: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'encode' in requestReceived() when multipart body doesn't include content-disposition

2021-02-18 Thread Victor Tapia
** Description changed:

  [impact]

  python-twisted errors out with "'NoneType' object has no attribute
  'encode' in requestReceived()" when it tries to parse a multipart mime
  message and python3.7+ is used. This happens because before commit
  cc3fa20 in cpython, cgi.parse_multipart ignored parts without a name
  defined in "content-disposition" (or parts without headers for that
  matter) but after 3.7+ the return of the function can now contain
  NoneType keys, which fail to encode.

  [scope]

- This bug affects all releases
+ Even though this bug affects all python3-twisted releases, I'll backport
+ the fix just to Focal, Groovy and Hirsute. Bionic and Xenial do not have
+ Python 3.7 as the default interpreter (required to trigger the issue),
+ and the delta in python3-twisted might be to big to backport as the
+ current packages do not contemplate _PY37PLUS at all.

  Fixed upstream with commit 310496249, available since 21.2.0rc1

[regression potential]

This affects the returned dictionaries with non-str keys, which were
discarded in python3.6 or earlier before they reached twisted, so
patching this will make its behavior consistent.

[Bug 1915811] [NEW] Empty NUMA topology in machines with high number of CPUs

2021-02-16 Thread Victor Tapia
Public bug reported:

[impact]

libvirt fails to populate its NUMA topology when the machine has a large
number of CPUs assigned to a single node. This happens when the number
of CPUs fills the bitmask (all to one), hitting a workaround introduced
to build the NUMA topology on machines that have non contiguous node
ids. This has been already fixed upstream in the commits listed below.

[scope]

The fix is needed for Xenial, Bionic, Focal and Groovy.

It's fixed upstream with commits 24d7d85208 and 551fb778f5 which are
included in v6.8, so both are already in hirsute.

[test case]

On a machine like the EPYC 7702P, after setting the NUMA config to NPS1
(single node per processor), or just a VM with 128 CPUs, "virsh
capabilities" does not show the NUMA topology:

# virsh capabilities | xmllint --xpath '/capabilities/host/topology' -

When it should show (edited to shorten the description):

  5027820
  1256955
  0

[Where problems could occur]

Any regression would likely involve a misconstruction of the NUMA
topology, in particular for machines with non contiguous node ids.

[Bug 1826737] Re: lshw does not list NVMe storage devices as "disk" nodes

2021-01-21 Thread Victor Tapia
Hi Stephen,

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue you are seeing. Is this
happening with the version in -proposed (02.18.85-0.3ubuntu2.20.10.1)?
Would you mind attaching the generated core dump to this bug so I can
take a look at it?
