Looks like there are too many issues - old ones getting closed and new
getting created.
From the two threads linked earlier
1. The issue is with USB-C delay, using HDMI cable is a reliable
workaround (finally after over year of agony).
2. @irox mentioned a software workaroundfor cinnamon/mint ?

No. I can confirm.
SFTP (basically SSH) mounts from nautilus can be opened from vlc, but
not FTP and possibly SMB as well.
With FTP mount the symptoms are exactly as

I had similar issue and just as piddy has diagnosed, my problem was because I
had renamed my /etc/samba/smb.conf to smb.conf.OLD earlier when experimenting
with mapiprofile. Problem went away once I reverted back the smb.conf.

by a process started by root .
so in my view if you do that as root , like sudo k3b and then try the
burning operation it should work.
