[Bug 496908] Re: Not clear what update this installer will do

2010-03-27 Thread Vit Svarc
I also hoped that this function will do something like mini-cd
installation is doing - install all updated packages already during
system installation. I was wondering that this feature is not presented.
Now I understand why :)

Btw. I tried it today with Beta 1, but it is not possible to install the
system after installer update - after copying the files, configuring
apt, retrieving files, the last message I can see is Checking the
packages to install, afterthat the instalation process stops and I see
desktop enviroment from live CD. After reboot, of course the system is
not installed completely.

I am against automatic installer update as Jonathon Hodges suggested.
Lot of people have internet connection behind the proxy, at present are
problems with downloading language packs because the proxy is not set in this
time and the installer waits quite long time when it is not possible to reach
the servers.

[Bug 313364] Re: usb-creator 0.1.11 regression: creates persistence file with incredibly slow single-byte writes

2009-01-03 Thread Vit Svarc
I can confirm this, last version from ppa is very slow, it took me around 1 hour to create 4G usb stick with persistence file.
But the good news is, it created boot sector correctly (I had problems, that it was installed grub on that usb stick before,
and the usb-creator from standard ubuntu repository didn't overwrite the boot sector).

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-10-12 Thread Vit Svarc
So because of this problem, I decided to use Aircrack driver again. But
it is not so easy as I thought, there are compilation problems with
2.6.27-7 kernel (and maybe all 2.6.27 based kernels)

You have to do following
(most of the steps are based on my previous post
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/182473/comments/65 )

This is the same as in my previous post:

wget http://dl.aircrack-ng.org/drivers/rtl8187_linux_26.1010.zip
unzip rtl8187_linux_26.1010.zip
cd rtl8187_linux_26.1010.0622.2006/

First change - get new patch:

wget http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/rtl8187_2.6.27.patch

tar xzf drv.tar.gz
tar xzf stack.tar.gz

Second change - apply the new patch:

patch -Np1 -i rtl8187_2.6.27.patch

But still the patch is not correct, it complains by compilation -
asm/semaphore.h: No such file or directory
So you have to edit the r8187.h

nano ./beta-8187/r8187.h

and find the line
#include asm/semaphore.h

and change it to

#include linux/semaphore.h

Save the file, and then continue the same way as in my previous post:

Then I put rtl8187 to the blacklist - as root
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and add “blacklist rtl8187” as a new line

Then remove the present driver

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo rmmod rtl8187

And then as root

make
make install

that is all, after reboot, enjoy working wireless network with the new kernel.
But I hope that the official driver will be fixed soon.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-09-12 Thread Vit Svarc
Right now, I am writing from Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 5 64bit live CD. I set
the internet connection using

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0bda:8187 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187
Wireless Adapter

This in integrated on my Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard.

It looks that the connection is OK (I am connected via Alice DSL - you have to
set firtst wireless connection using WEB encryption, then set pppoe connection
using pppoeconf).
The connection looks stable!
Only what is weird is the link quality. With the driver I described in my
previous post, the quality was around 70%. With this driver, I have

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:ALICE-WLAN12
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: 00:D0:DE:6F:C7:86
  Bit Rate=54 Mb/s Tx-Power=27 dBm
  Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
  Power Management:off
  Link Quality=13/100 Signal level:65/65
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Only 13%. But I can't see any speed problems.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-07-09 Thread Vit Svarc
I have to confirm the message above. After installing the driver from mentioned
aircrack-ng link and followed the manual.
But little bit different, because the wireless connection is the only internet
connection I have.

So first I did:

wget http://dl.aircrack-ng.org/drivers/rtl8187_linux_26.1010.zip
unzip rtl8187_linux_26.1010.zip
cd rtl8187_linux_26.1010.0622.2006/
wget http://patches.aircrack-ng.org/rtl8187_2.6.24v3.patch
tar xzf drv.tar.gz
tar xzf stack.tar.gz
patch -Np1 -i rtl8187_2.6.24v3.patch

Then I put rtl8187 to the blacklist - as root
Edit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and add “blacklist rtl8187” as a new line

Then remove the present driver

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo rmmod rtl8187

And then as root

make
make install

Then reboot and from new start, the network connection was OK, because the name
wlan0 was not changed, it wasn't necessary to change the network settings.
My system is Ubuntu 8.04.1 64bit.

So please, it would be great that someone from ubuntu team apply the
aircrack-ng Realtek driver into ubuntu kernel, or change the present driver to
have the same correct functionality.
Becouse I suppose that with new kernel, I will have to recompile the driver
again.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-07-07 Thread Vit Svarc
Hello,

I have Asus P5W DH motherboard, where is this card also integrated as USB
device.
I have exactly same problems as many times described in this thread - loosing
wifi connection.
My system is Ubuntu 8.04 64bit, kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, but the same
behaviour was in previous 2.6.24-*-generic too.

I tried following:

Somewhere I read, that it helps to install backports modules - it didn't help
Somewhere I read, that it helps to set the rate to 5.5M - iwconfig wlan0 rate
5.5M auto - it didn't help
Disabled IPv6 - it didn't help
Somewhere I read that the problems are not in driver as itself, but in
NetworkManager gnome applet - so I disabled nm-applet - it didn't help

The behaviour is still the same - after loosing connection, I can try
/etc/init.d/networking restart , sometimes it helps to do only this, but in
most cases, I can see in dmesg timeout for WEP auth. afterthat. Sometimes (not
always), when I run dmesg again, I can see new records, that authentication
frame was recieved, but wlan0 is not in authentication mode. After performing
next networking restart, it starts to work again.
But when the last message in dmesg is still the timeout problem, the only
solution is to remove the dirver and and insert it again.

Did someone manage to solve this problem without using ndiswrapper?
I am also prepared to post log files or something what can help.

[Bug 232172] [NEW] no wlan option for pppoe configuration

2008-05-20 Thread Vit Svarc
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 8.04, there is possibility to set up ppoe connection using gui in
network settings.
But there is only possibility to use ethernet devices for setting the
connection.
In my case, I am using pppoe over wlan device (quite common internet connection
in Germany), it means, I have to connect to WLAN bridge and then use this wlan
bridge for setting pppoe connection.
To do this, I have to set up it using command line tool pppoeconf.
So I think this is not feature request, this is a bug in present gui, that the
wlan device can't be chosen.

[Bug 131732] Re: [gusty] Restart doesn't restart and blank screen in text mode

2007-08-31 Thread Vit Svarc
I have exactly same problem, after clicking on Shutdown button, system halts.
The only solution is to press ctrl+alt+backspace and reboot from gdm.
I have nvidia 7600GT and compiz enabled, i didn't make any changes in xorg.conf.
