[Bug 2064545] [NEW] Can't enter form field for secret user key passphrase

2024-05-01 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

When you configure an openvpn network using the gnome GUI for network-
manager-openvpn and select type "Password and certificate TLS" you can't
enter into the form field for the secret key passphrase - you can click
on it, but when typing, the previously selected field is overwritten.
Via tab you also can't navigate to the field. But it is possible to use
context menu and paste something in the field.

On Ubuntu 22.04 I had no issue with that, I ran into it testing 24.04.

[Bug 1977695] [NEW] Black Screen on Boot with X11

2022-06-05 Thread Kurt von Laven
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Release:22.04

xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.7+23ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:7.7+23ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1:7.7+23ubuntu2 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages

1. Uncomment WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
2. Reboot.
3. See black screen after selecting Ubuntu at GRUB prompt. Login screen never
loads.

Unplugging any external monitors appears to have no effect on the bug. I
am aware that most users of Ubuntu 22.04 see an option at the login
screen to change the display manager. I have never seen such an option.
My machine always uses Wayland unless I modify /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
directly. Using Wayland is detrimental to my health, because the Night
Light feature does nothing. I have nvidia-driver-510 installed. I am
happy to provide further debugging information upon request.

[Bug 1895528] Re: Setting in manpage of resolved.conf does not apply

2022-06-02 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
@Dan

thanks a lot for opening an MR. Until today the manpage has not changed
in Ubuntu 20.04 and I guess it won't ever for that LTS version.

But in Ubuntu 22.04 the manpage is correct and corresponds with the
default settings.

So for me this issue is solved and could be closed...

Best regards
Daniel

[Bug 1976180] [NEW] nagstamon should depend on 'python3-dateutil'

2022-05-29 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainers,

I tested with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and nagstamon 3.8.0-1.

In case the 'python3-dateutil' package is missing on a system 'nagstamon' won't
start.
The error message is accordingly a:

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'dateutil'.

'python3-dateutil' does exist per default on Ubuntu but by removing some
unwanted default features it happened that 'python3-dateutil' has been
removed as well while cleaning up dependencies.

Since 'python3-dateutil' is mandatory to run 'nagstamon' it should be
listed in its dependencies.

Best regards
Daniel

[Bug 1965728] [NEW] default bashrc contains invalid ternary statement

2022-03-21 Thread Kurt von Laven
Public bug reported:

Shellcheck detected an instance of
https://github.com/koalaman/shellcheck/wiki/SC2015 in the .bashrc that
ships with Ubuntu.

Here is the existing code:

test -r ~/.dircolors && eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)" || eval
"$(dircolors -b)"

It appears to be intended to behave like a ternary statement. The
existing code evaluates `eval "$(dircolors -b)"` if `test -r
~/.dircolors` is true and `eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)"` is
false, which at face value doesn't appear to be the intention. According
to Shellcheck, it should instead be:

if [ -r ~/.dircolors ]; then
eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)"
else
eval "$(dircolors -b)"
fi

This ensures that the else case only executes when test -r ~/.dircolors
is false.

2021-09-29 Thread Michael von Glasow
Any news on this? I don’t really feel like trying this again on a
production machine and corrupting my menu again. However, if it got
fixed, you guys would probably know – either this issue was addressed
and fixed, or it went away as a side effect of the faulty code having
been rewritten for some other reason.

Looks like the reinstall with the system helpers did the trick. The
package now installed and seems to work as intended.

I did some cleaning and I don't have any package problems hanging around
any more. So I would think it is a solved problem now.

Thank you for the support.

Set up calendar and tasks with a CalDav server and an old Thunderbird
version (up to ca. December 2020).
Set up a recurring task.
Whenever an instance of the recurring task becomes due, mark it as
completed.
Repeat this for a few instances.
Upgrade to Thunderbird 78.7.1.
Examine the list of tasks.

Actual results:

Previous instances of the recurring tasks (which had already been marked
as completed before the update) now reappear and show as incomplete. If
I manually set them to Completed, the status will be reset upon sync.

Expected results:

Completion status (as previously set) is honored and the tasks no longer
show as open.

Additional information:

The server is running DAViCal.

I just ran a few extra tests:

* Recurring tasks in local storage (create a weekly task, starting a few weeks
in the past and ending a few weeks into the future, then mark some of the past
instances as complete)
* Same on the CalDAV calendar, sync after marking a few past instances complete
* Repeat the CalDAV tests with variations: complete the second instance but
leave the first one uncompleted; complete the third instance, sync, then
complete the second one
* Non-recurring task on CalDAV

Results:

* Non-recurring tasks are not affected; I can mark the task completed and it
will keep its status.
* Recurring tasks in local storage are also not affected; completed instances
will keep their status.
* Instances of recurring tasks on CalDAV can be marked completed but will lose
their status upon synchronization. Exception: one instance maintains its
completion status.
* The instance to maintain its completion status is the first one that got
marked complete (i.e. based on the time the completion flag got set, not based
on start date).

This bug began showing with an update deployed sometime between
January–March 2021, though I failed to record the exact version numbers.

I also have an Android app accessing the same DAViCal instance, where
the completed instance have not been reset.

In conclusion, the issue seems to occur when reading tasks from a CalDAV
server (tasks on the server are not altered). The first instance which
got set to Completed retains its completion status, whereas the flag is
ignored for all later ones.

I have filed this bug upstream at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1707032 and was told that
this issue should be fixed as of Thunderbird 78.8.0 (current being
78.10.0). So the main issue is that the Ubuntu repos have an outdated
Thunderbird version with a known issue.

[Bug 1891552] Re: Segmentation Fault in libpcre2-8-0 when using regex in (cifs) volume

2021-03-31 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Hi Brian,

I tested the focal-proposed version with my configured
pam_mount.conf.xml and it seems to be working fine now.

Package Version:
libpam-mount/focal-proposed,now 2.16-10ubuntu0.20.04.1 amd64

In my pam_mount.conf.xml I am using a 'regex="yes"' and an "and"
condition.

I switched to a different user on the terminal, the matching regex is
shown and the volume is mounted correctly.

Thanks a lot!
Daniel

[Bug 1912706] Re: Ubuntu 21.04 QEMU virgl Couldn't find current GLX or EGL context

2021-01-26 Thread Von
Hi Christian,
thanks for replying!

I uploaded output from #2.2, however i tried to downgrade qemu without
success. I will try to install ubuntu 20.04 on a physical machine
latter.

It is worth mentioning that qemu(5.2+dfsg-3ubuntu1)+virgl works on
GTK/Wayland without those errors. Outputs are included in info.tar.xz.

[Bug 1909811] [NEW] Could not find or load main class org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool when launching hsqldb-sqltool

2021-01-01 Thread Michael von Glasow
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Ensure libhsqldb-hava and hsqldb-utils are installed.
2. Open a terminal window and run hsqldb-sqltool

Alternatively:

1. Start HSQLDB in server mode
2. Try to stop the running instance by running:
java -cp $CLASSPATH:/usr/share/java/hsqldbutil.jar:/usr/share/java/hsqldb.jar
"org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool"
--inlineRc=url=jdbc:hsqldb:hsql://localhost/$DB_NAME,user=SA,password=
--sql="SHUTDOWN;"

Expected result:

I get the HSQLDB command-line interface (or at least a message about
missing parameters). For the alternative use case, the DB shuts down.

Actual result:

In both cases, the CLI fails to launch with the following error:

Error: Could not find or load main class org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool

Additional information:

This worked without issues on Ubuntu 18.04 but stopped working after I
upgraded to 20.04. I suspect there is something wrong with the JARs in
the libhsqldb-java package on 20.04.

Looking at the contents of libhsqldb-java, I see it installs two jar
files: hsqldb-2.4.1.jar and hsqldbutil-2.5.0.jar. This looks to me as if
the two JARs are taken from different versions. As Fred Toussi
(maintainer of HSQLDB) writes at
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/65514193/hsqldb-command-line-
shutdown-no-longer-works-after-upgrade, mixing JARs from different
releases will not work properly.

Yes, I installed the latest version from Github, and decreasing
polling_interval_active_us seems to fix the problem.

[Bug 1901994] [NEW] Touchpad not working

2020-10-29 Thread Nicolas von Roden
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I bought a new Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 and installed Ubuntu 20.04 on it.
Unfortunately my touchpad stopped working and is not even recognized as input
device (see attached device file). I would appreciate any hints as to how to
solve this issue.
Thank you!
Best regards,
Nicolas

[Bug 1897744] Re: VerifyHostKeyDNS not working due to missing trust-ad flag

2020-10-28 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Hello Brian,

I installed version

245.4-4ubuntu3.3 from focal-proposed

on my focal systems, did some restarts, checked the content of the
/etc/resolv.conf (trust-ad was always present). Connection to servers
using sshfp is working without authenticity question except those
servers without sshfp key in DNS. So everything works as it is supposed
to.

Thanks a lot and I have changed the tag for focal.

Daniel

The standalone patch #217 is working for MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 but isn't
working perfectly for MSFT0001:00 06CB:7F28. The MSFT0001:00 06CB:7F28

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-10-22 Thread Von
Hi Francesco

I have the same laptop with Ubuntu installed and I am using #211 patch
too. It works for me after running:

$ sudo rmmod i2c_hid
$ sudo insmod /path/to/i2c-hid.ko polling_mode=1
$ sudo cp /path/to/i2c-hid.ko /lib/modules/$(uname
-r)/kernel/drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.ko
$ sudo depmod

then append i2c_hid.polling_mode=1 to kernel commandline

use a text editor to open /etc/default/grub as root, then change the line
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i2c_hid.polling_mode=1"
  ,finally save the changes

then run:

$ sudo update-grub2
$ sudo update-initramfs -u

reboot the laptop and everything shall be fine

I love shutter, but it does not work in my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on Wayland... still
does on the other side (based on X11). Is there any hope to get it fixed?

[Bug 1897744] [NEW] VerifyHostKeyDNS not working due to missing trust-ad flag

2020-09-29 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Hi,

1)
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04

2)
systemd:245.4-4ubuntu3.2

3)
I set VerifyHostKeyDNS to YES and hosts are automatically verified via sshfp.

4)
I still get the security question
Matching host key fingerprint found in DNS.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no/[fingerprint])?

The issue is known and fixed in systemd v246.

[Bug 1895528] [NEW] Setting in manpage of resolved.conf does not apply

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Hi,

it looks like there is an error in the manpage of resolved.conf.

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3.2

The manpage of resolved.conf says:

DNSSEC=
   ...
   Defaults to "allow-downgrade"

So when I leave the resolved.conf un-edited, the value is

[Resolve]
...
#DNSSEC=no
...

so the default "allow-downgrade" should apply.

But instead DNSSEC is not used at all.

dig sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>> sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 24171
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1

When I set the value hard-coded to "allow-downgrade"

[Resolve]
...
DNSSEC=allow-downgrade
...

the ad flag is shown.

dig sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

[Bug 1891552] Re: Segmentation Fault when using regex in (cifs) volume

2020-08-14 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Hi Christian,

2. The mounting client gets the segfault.

1. To reproduce it on Ubuntu 20.04 I switch to root on the terminal via
'sudo -su'. Then I switch to another user.

Without the regex in the pam_mount.conf.xml it looks like this:

root@ubuntu2004:/# su - user
reenter password for pam_mount:
HXproc_run_async: pmvarrun: No such file or directory
user@ubuntu2004:~$

The CIFS-Directory is mounted.

With the regex it looks like this:

root@ubuntu2004:/# su - user
Segmentation fault
root@ubuntu2004:/#

3. Unfortunately there is no core dump of the segfault.

[Bug 1891552] [NEW] Segmentation Fault when using regex in (cifs) volume

2020-08-13 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Hello,

there seems to be a bug in libpam-mount in version 2.16-10 used in
Ubuntu 20.04.

I want to mount a cifs volume with a regex condition.

^[a-z]{3}.*$

At system start the system freezes completely. Then I retested during a
running session on the command line and I'm getting the error message

Segmentation fault

when I login to another user.

If I remove the 'regex="yes"' everything works.
If I remove the "and" condition everything works.
If I downgrade the libpam-mount package to version 2.16-3ubuntu0.1 of Ubuntu
18.04 everything works including using the regex condition. In Ubuntu 18.04
everything worked fine as well.

Best regards
Daniel

So I wrote a patch for 4.14. [1] I have not tested it, as I don't know

2020-03-15 Thread Michael von Glasow
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Open an image file with EXIF metadata in Eye of MATE.
2. Select Image > Properties from the menu, and navigate to the last tab.

Expected result:

A list view that fills the entire space on the tab and resizes with the
window.

Actual result:

A list view that is limited to 4 lines of content, although even at the
default minimum size of the window there is more than twice as much
space available.

Software versions:

Ubuntu MATE 18.04, all patches applied as of 2020-03-15.

[Bug 1867526] [NEW] EXIF location in Eye of MATE image properties is not displayed properly

2020-03-15 Thread Michael von Glasow
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Open a geotagged JPEG/EXIF image in Eye of MATE Image Viewer. (Sample file
attached.)
2. Click Image > Properties, and examine the information displayed on the tabs.

Expected results:

* On the Metadata tab, the Location field has the coordinates. (I suppose
that’s what it’s meant to do.)
* On the Details tab, under Other, I can see the the correct latitude and
longitude from the EXIF data in a legible format.

Actual results:

* On the Metadata tab, the Location field is empty.
* On the Details tab, under Other, latitude (and latitude reference) is not
displayed at all.
* In the same place there is a field named GPSLongitudeRef and another named
GPSLongitude. They have the correct data, but longitude is in a non-obvious
format. It took me a while to figure out that 6, 31. 44.023 is meant to be 6°
31′ 44.023″.
* Altitude (and reference), speed (and reference) and date/time are displayed
correctly.

Software versions:

Ubuntu MATE 18.04, all updates/patches applied as of 2020-03-15.

Further information;

An image for testing is attached. When opened in JOSM, its GPS data is
parsed correctly, which rules out corrupt EXIF data. I have also
observed this behavior with other images from other sources.

Opinions on the “correct” coordinate format vary. Some prefer decimal
degrees, others prefer degrees/minutes/seconds. It would be nice if I
could choose between these two.

The display of the speed reference could be improved. That K stands for
km/h, not knots, is not immediately apparent, given that many GPS
applications (notably the NMEA standard) use knots internally.

[Bug 1043336] Re: Swiss keyboard layout with Apple keyboard (period instead of comma)

2019-10-22 Thread Lukas von Blarer
For me executing

echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/iso_layout

Fixes the issue temporarily.

Inserting this into /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf:

options hid_apple iso_layout=0

Doesn't fix the issue after reboot:

cat /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/iso_layout
1

Re: [Bug 1847742] Re: "sudo apt remove libpcsclite1" tries to remove network-manager and more

2019-10-11 Thread Hans von Wurscht
OK, sorry. I just found it odd that removing a library for smart card stuff
also removes things like ubuntu-desktop or rdesktop.
Thanks for your work and your quick reply, though!

[Bug 1847742] [NEW] "sudo apt remove libpcsclite1" tries to remove network-manager and more

2019-10-11 Thread Hans von Wurscht
Public bug reported:

I recently needed to remove and reinstall
libpcsclite1_1.8.23-1_amd64.deb. I noticed that the removal of this
package would result in the removal of various network-relevant packages
(see below). I saw bug report #949912 which reported a similar thing in
2012 and marked it fixed. I understand that report dealt with the
support of multiarch, but the behaviour of apt in the case of removal of
libpcsclite1 seems undesirable to me. Here's the console output I got
when trying to remove libpcsclite1 (sorry for the German output):

sudo apt remove libpcsclite1
[sudo] Passwort für clemens:
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut.
Statusinformationen werden eingelesen Fertig
Die folgenden Pakete wurden automatisch installiert und werden nicht mehr
benötigt:
   fonts-dejavu-extra java-common libatk-wrapper-java libatk-wrapper-java-jni
libccid libcolord-gtk1
   libgif7 libgssglue1 libnss-myhostname libstoken1 libteamdctl0
libtomcrypt1 libtommath1 vpnc-scripts
Verwenden Sie »sudo apt autoremove«, um sie zu entfernen.
Die folgenden Pakete werden ENTFERNT:
   ca-certificates-java gnome-control-center libfreerdp-plugins-standard
libopenconnect5 libpcsclite1
   network-manager network-manager-config-connectivity-ubuntu
network-manager-gnome network-manager
   openconnect network-manager-openconnect-gnome network-manager-pptp
network-manager-pptp-gnome
   openconnect openjdk-8-jre openjdk-8-jre-headless pcscd
plainbox-provider-checkbox
   plainbox-provider-resource-generic rdesktop tlp-rdw ubuntu-desktop
wpasupplicant
0 aktualisiert, 0 neu installiert, 22 zu entfernen und 30 nicht aktualisiert.
Nach dieser Operation werden 126 MB Plattenplatz freigegeben.
Möchten Sie fortfahren? [J/n]

The crucial part is all those packages which apt wants to remove
("werden ENTFERNT"). I guess I could be doing a stupid thing trying to
remove the libpcsclite1, but it really seems like unwanted behaviour
since continuing this package removal as suggested by apt would result
in an offline computer.

Cheers,

Hans

[Bug 1721988] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 full disk encryption + Nvidia drivers not booting

2018-12-10 Thread Aaron Von Gauss
With Ubuntu 18.04 LTS or Ubuntu 18.10 and full disk encryption enabled,
after I install the nVidia drivers I also receive the blank screen
though I can type the passphrase in and it will continue to boot
successfully. What seems odd based on some past comments is adding the
"nomodeset" parameter for me presents the splash screen as expected even
with the nVidia drivers installed. I've tested this with both the 390
and 415 drivers.

Hi, I had the same issue. Clean Ubuntu 18.0.4 install. Tetravex on first
initialization requested board size. Now stuck with 3x3 board.

I Managed to bypass this by changing a local file.

gnome-tetravex uses a -s (--size) {2-6} parameter to specify board size.

File changed:
${HOME}/.local/share/gnome-shell/application_state
#added size parameter which affect the startup from the menu.

NOTE: This entry WILL be overwritten with next game, using new board
size, but the change seems to 'stick'. Obviously the correct setting
file gets adjusted somewhere.

[Bug 1800003] [NEW] evince crashes in FcConfigParseAndLoad

2018-10-25 Thread Mirko Hessel-von Molo
Public bug reported:

I have the following situation persistently on my system (Ubuntu 18.04.1
on Dell Latitude E6500):

Evince called with any pdf file crashes immediately with a segmentation
fault. From the crash dump, I see that the crash happens in fontconfig's
FcConfigParseAndLoad function, i.e. when the system fonts.conf is read.
I can reproduce the crash with the following minimal example:

#include

const FcChar8* filename = "/home/mirkoh/fontconfig-test/fonts.conf";
FcConfig* config;

int main(){
   FcConfigParseAndLoad(config, filename, FcTrue);
}

The fonts.conf file used here is also absolutely minimal:

(Get me right. It first happened with my system fonts.conf, which is not
empty. In order to find out whether a specific entry lead to the crash,
I deleted entry after entry, ultimately reaching the file above, and
always FcConfigParseAndLoad crashes.

I have no idea how to go on from here.

[Bug 1799853] [NEW] German translation of "Create New Note" template breaks functionality

2018-10-24 Thread Mirko Hessel-von Molo
Public bug reported:

Working with 18.04.01, package 1.15.9-0ubuntu1

When Tomboy 1.15.9 is used in a German locale, new notes are created
with a nonsensical title.

In the English locale, the title would be eg. "Note from 2018-10-28,
02:58:34.123".
In German, it is "Notiz von -10-TT, 02:58:34.123". Clearly the date part is
nonsense.

The reason for this is that the string "-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fff"
creating the time stamp (line 483 in NoteManager.cs) is first fed into
Catalog.GetString() and then into DateTime.Now.ToString; i.e. it is
translated before being processed.

Now in the German .po file, there is "-MM-dd, HH:mm:ss.fff" as a
translation for "-MM-dd, HH:mm:ss.fff". This breaks the "ToString"
functionality and leads to the above mentioned effects.

It is easy to correct this: either remove the call of
Catalog.GetString() for the above mentioned string, or remove the
"translation" of this string (if for some reason the call is required
for other languages).

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

So Xubuntu 18.10 shor term release has got a working mouse driver again.
This is good to hear.

However we Xubuntu 18.04 LTS users absolutely need the mouse package to
be back-ported i.e. fixed also in 18.04 LTS, because it's a long term
support release and widely used. And this mouse driver bug is a show-
stopper: currently a fresh installation of Xubuntu 18.04.0 or 18.04.1
LTS for many users and machines is not being useable because the mouse
driver just doesn't work properly. How could anybody use a Xubuntu
installation with a working mouse (driver) ?

Please, Xubuntu developers reading this bug-report here, back-port the
mouse driver from Xubuntu 18.10 to Xubuntu 18.04 LTS. Like you did with
the back-then always crashing Thunar in 16.04 LTS until the Thunar fixes
got back-ported starting with Xubuntu 16.04.2 or so.

Thanks.

[Bug 1768556] [NEW] Tilde/macron is no longer a dead key on German keyboard

2018-05-02 Thread Michael von Glasow
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable the German keyboard layout.
2. Open a text editor of your choice.
3. Press AltGr and + (second key after P), then press a.
4. Press AltGr + Shift and +, then press a.

Expected behavior:

Key acts as a dead key, the key sequences produce ã and ā, respectively.

Actual behavior:

Key acts as a regular key, the key sequences produce ~a and ¯a,
respectively. This breaks the ability to easily input diacritics for
several languages (including Portuguese, Spanish, Estonian, Latvian,
Lithuanian).

Additional information:

Both keystrokes acted as dead keys in Ubuntu 16.04. I doubt removing the
dead key functionality was intentional: While I do understand that some
people might need the tilde key frequently but hardly ever need a tilde
accent, I cannot think of many situations in which one would require a
bare macron. Plus, for situations in which dead keys are undesirable,
there is also a “nodeadkeys” variant of the German layout, which has
been around for some time.

The way I solved this problem was simple. I had the option of installing
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, either using uefi mode or the device boot option
(invoked through the BIOS startup by pressing ESC or F2). When I
installed using uefi mode, I got this error. What I did next was to boot
my USB through the device boot option in the BIOS startup and there was
no aforementioned problem.

That is how I escaped the error. Hope this helps.

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-04-30 Thread Michael von Glasow
I noticed another issue recently: when the device displays woke up after
a period of inactivity, the picture of the external (!) display was
stretched vertically by a factor of 2, with the bottom half missing. I
took a screenshot, but that looked OK and didn’t reflect what I actually
saw.

Also, with the original issue, I tried switching to a text console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back to the GUI (Ctrl+Alt+F7), but the internal
display remained black and came back to life long after the main one.
Looks like switching to a text console and back to the GUI has no
effect.

Currently still on 16.04.

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-04-18 Thread Michael von Glasow
I am referring to package updates, still on 16.04, whatever was made
available on the repos in the last ~24 hours before comment #33. (Is
there an install log which will tell me what was updated when?)

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-04-18 Thread Michael von Glasow
After today’s updates, I am seeing another strange issue: whenever all
displays go out due to inactivity and I touch the keyboard or mouse
again, the internal display starts to flicker. It looks as if the entire
image is shifted by some 25% of its width to one side, then to the other
(with the part that would be outside the display area wrapping around to
the other end of the display). It flickers back and forth between the
two offsets somewhere near the refresh rate. So far I’ve always been
able to recover by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to a tty, then Ctrl+Alt+F7
to return to the MATE desktop. Not sure if it’s related.

2018-04-18 Thread Michael von Glasow
18.04 LTS is just around the corner and I will be upgrading soon. Is
there any more information you’d like me to gather while still on 16.04?
Please let me know; otherwise I will post any news on how this behavior
also affects 18.04 once I’ve upgraded and used it for a while.

[Bug 1764127] [NEW] frequent crashes during boot on Ryzen 3 2200G

2018-04-15 Thread Johannes von Löwis
Public bug reported:

Most of the time when booting Ubuntu 18.04 (beta) on my recently bought Ryzen 3
2200 G (Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-7A34/B350 PC MATE (MS-7A34), BIOS
A.C0 03/08/2018) computer it crashes.
Sometimes it boots OK and I do not encounter (major) problems (see below).

Booting in recovery mode works fine (always, as far as I can tell) but
then I get only 1024x768 graphics.

When it hangs during boot, I sometimes see a message:
fb: switching to amdgpudrmfb from EFI VGA.

When boots OK and seems to work OK I frequently see messages in the dmesg
output:
[ 1480.928786] pcieport :00:01.2: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,
type=Data Link Layer, id=000a(Transmitter ID)

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-04-12 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
Thank you Sean for your explanation and for looking after Xubuntu 18.04
bugs here on Launchpad.

So you can't reproduce the mouse acceleration problem. This makes the
bug much harder to track down, if it only effects some people – or maybe
if it affects many people but some not. :-(

We have here in this report at least three people who're being affected.
Not to mention user "Cruxic" who opened the same bug report for Xubuntu
17.10 already in the end of last year and to which I link to in my #1
post above.

I can reproduce the mouse acceleration bug on two very different x86 machines
of mine, with totally different mice, and whenever I encounter the same bug on
these different machines, in most cases it's a real bug and no configuration
problem.
So how could we help to further pin down this nasty bug?

Furthermore, shall I open new bug reports for a few more bugs, i.e. is the
"Xubuntu" tag sufficient for you developers to find our bug reports?
(I would like to report another bug then: Xfce4's icon-bar exporter doesn't
work anymore, the save dialogue doesn't save anything.)

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-04-12 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
How do we make this bug aware to the Xubuntu team? Did I use the wrong
tags in the bug report?

Because the bug is a real showstopper and apparently already exists since
Xubuntu 17.10… ie since October 2017.
But hardly anybody notices it? How many Xubuntu users are still out there?

If its not fixed, all Xubuntu 18.04 LTS users will have to live with
non-configurable mouse speeds for 3+ years. That would be very bad.

And how do we make the Xubuntu team aware of other bugs? Like package
"gtk-theme-config" missing since some days, and it not having been
installed by default before.

[Bug 1729762] Re: Mouse acceleration/sensitivity adjustment has no effect

[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-03-22 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
Maybe related to the following bug report for Xubuntu 17.10 from
November 2017 ?

"Mouse acceleration/sensitivity adjustment has no effect"
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1729762

Since I don't use Xubuntu 17.10 however, I can't tell.

[Bug 1758023] [NEW] Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04

2018-03-22 Thread Ulrich von Augsburg
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch), Release: 18.04

Fresh installation from Xubuntu 18.04 beta1 ISO, and "apt updated"
daily.

2) package: xfce4-settings 4.12.3-0ubuntu1

3) What to expected to happen?
Running the application "xfce4-mouse-settings" from the above package, changing
the sliders "acceleration" and "sensitivity" should change the mouse speed.

4) What happened instead?
The sliders have no effect, i.e. you change the mouse acceleration and
sensitivity sliders but both don't haven't any effect on the mouse.

Tested on several different machines with different mice. With Xubuntu 16.04
the xfce4-mouse-settings still work fine on the same machines.

While "xfce4-mouse-settings" doesn't work in Xubuntu 18.04 on these
machines, chaneing the mouse speed with GNOME's "gnome-control-center"
works fine on the same installation.

Maybe the bug is related to the new libinput system introduced in Ubuntu 18.04?

The terminal command:
mouse [accel] [threshold] [mouse default]
doesn't change the mouse speed in Xubuntu 18.04.

However the terminal command:;
xinput
does work in Xubuntu 18.04, but it only knows one parameter instead of the two
used by "xfce4-mouse-settings".

For example the following works for me:
xinput set-prop "PixArt USB Optical Mouse" "libinput Accel Speed" -0.6

** Affects: xfce4-settings (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-02-25 Thread Michael von Glasow
And the screen just went black again. I haven’t rebooted since I changed
the settings; I will report if I still experience issues after a reboot,
just to be sure.

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-02-25 Thread Michael von Glasow
I just set the screen timeout to Never; dimming was already disabled. I
did this only for the AC profile, not the battery profile, as I’m on AC
power most of the time. I’ll report back if the screen goes black again
(or if it doesn’t happen for a while).

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-02-24 Thread Michael von Glasow
I'm currently working without an external display and without a docking
station/port replicator, and the screen just went black for a couple of
seconds. The system had been running for 1–2 hours at the time.

[Bug 1574501] Re: Zabbix-agent needs valid home directory

2018-02-20 Thread Eduard von Feek
/var/run is a symlink to /run, which is a tmpfs. All files and
directories there get deleted during a reboot. Any ideas how to mitigate
this, so that e.g. SSH configuration in /var/run/zabbix/.ssh/ doesn't
get deleted?

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-02-13 Thread Michael von Glasow
Re 1: the issue started to happen after I moved the hard disk to the 840
G1 (from a 6930p), which was around August/September. Updates usually
get installed within a day (unless I have only limited Internet access,
which was not the case when I switched laptops), thus the system should
have been fairly up-to-date at the time.

Re 2: I will keep an eye on this, may take a while though (most of the
time the system is docked or has an external display connected).

Re 3: I would say several times per day (i.e. 8–16 hours of usage),
every few hours on average. I’ll keep an eye on it and report back.

2018-02-12 Thread Michael von Glasow
Well, that didn’t take long: screen just went black again for somewhere
around a second. Let me know if you need further input from me.

BTW: currently working without a dock, with an external screen attached
via DP (which has also experienced the bug before the update)—so the
dock doesn’t make a difference.
