[Bug 2064545] [NEW] Can't enter form field for secret user key passphrase
Public bug reported: When you configure an openvpn network using the gnome GUI for network- manager-openvpn and select type "Password and certificate TLS" you can't enter into the form field for the secret key passphrase - you can click on it, but when typing, the previously selected field is overwritten. Via tab you also can't navigate to the field. But it is possible to use context menu and paste something in the field. On Ubuntu 22.04 I had no issue with that, I ran into it testing 24.04. [Bug 1965728] [NEW] default bashrc contains invalid ternary statement
Public bug reported: Shellcheck detected an instance of https://github.com/koalaman/shellcheck/wiki/SC2015 in the .bashrc that ships with Ubuntu. Here is the existing code: test -r ~/.dircolors && eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)" || eval "$(dircolors -b)" It appears to be intended to behave like a ternary statement. The existing code evaluates `eval "$(dircolors -b)"` if `test -r ~/.dircolors` is true and `eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)"` is false, which at face value doesn't appear to be the intention. According to Shellcheck, it should instead be: if [ -r ~/.dircolors ]; then eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)" else eval "$(dircolors -b)" fi This ensures that the else case only executes when test -r ~/.dircolors is false. [Bug 1925677] [NEW] Thunderbird: Recurring tasks on CalDAV account can no longer be set to completed
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: Set up calendar and tasks with a CalDav server and an old Thunderbird version (up to ca. December 2020). Set up a recurring task. Whenever an instance of the recurring task becomes due, mark it as completed. Repeat this for a few instances. Upgrade to Thunderbird 78.7.1. Examine the list of tasks. Actual results: Previous instances of the recurring tasks (which had already been marked as completed before the update) now reappear and show as incomplete. If I manually set them to Completed, the status will be reset upon sync. Expected results: Completion status (as previously set) is honored and the tasks no longer show as open. Additional information: The server is running DAViCal. I just ran a few extra tests: * Recurring tasks in local storage (create a weekly task, starting a few weeks in the past and ending a few weeks into the future, then mark some of the past instances as complete) * Same on the CalDAV calendar, sync after marking a few past instances complete * Repeat the CalDAV tests with variations: complete the second instance but leave the first one uncompleted; complete the third instance, sync, then complete the second one * Non-recurring task on CalDAV Results: * Non-recurring tasks are not affected; I can mark the task completed and it will keep its status. * Recurring tasks in local storage are also not affected; completed instances will keep their status. * Instances of recurring tasks on CalDAV can be marked completed but will lose their status upon synchronization. Exception: one instance maintains its completion status. * The instance to maintain its completion status is the first one that got marked complete (i.e. based on the time the completion flag got set, not based on start date). This bug began showing with an update deployed sometime between January–March 2021, though I failed to record the exact version numbers. I also have an Android app accessing the same DAViCal instance, where the completed instance have not been reset. In conclusion, the issue seems to occur when reading tasks from a CalDAV server (tasks on the server are not altered). The first instance which got set to Completed retains its completion status, whereas the flag is ignored for all later ones. I have filed this bug upstream at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1707032 and was told that this issue should be fixed as of Thunderbird 78.8.0 (current being 78.10.0). So the main issue is that the Ubuntu repos have an outdated Thunderbird version with a known issue. [Bug 1909811] [NEW] Could not find or load main class org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool when launching hsqldb-sqltool
Public bug reported: To reproduce: 1. Ensure libhsqldb-hava and hsqldb-utils are installed. 2. Open a terminal window and run hsqldb-sqltool Alternatively: 1. Start HSQLDB in server mode 2. Try to stop the running instance by running: java -cp $CLASSPATH:/usr/share/java/hsqldbutil.jar:/usr/share/java/hsqldb.jar "org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool" --inlineRc=url=jdbc:hsqldb:hsql://localhost/$DB_NAME,user=SA,password= --sql="SHUTDOWN;" Expected result: I get the HSQLDB command-line interface (or at least a message about missing parameters). For the alternative use case, the DB shuts down. Actual result: In both cases, the CLI fails to launch with the following error: Error: Could not find or load main class org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.hsqldb.cmdline.SqlTool Additional information: This worked without issues on Ubuntu 18.04 but stopped working after I upgraded to 20.04. I suspect there is something wrong with the JARs in the libhsqldb-java package on 20.04. Looking at the contents of libhsqldb-java, I see it installs two jar files: hsqldb-2.4.1.jar and hsqldbutil-2.5.0.jar. This looks to me as if the two JARs are taken from different versions. As Fred Toussi (maintainer of HSQLDB) writes at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/65514193/hsqldb-command-line- shutdown-no-longer-works-after-upgrade, mixing JARs from different releases will not work properly. [Bug 1891552] Re: Segmentation Fault when using regex in (cifs) volume
Hi Christian, 2. The mounting client gets the segfault. 1. To reproduce it on Ubuntu 20.04 I switch to root on the terminal via 'sudo -su'. Then I switch to another user. Without the regex in the pam_mount.conf.xml it looks like this: root@ubuntu2004:/# su - user reenter password for pam_mount: HXproc_run_async: pmvarrun: No such file or directory user@ubuntu2004:~$ The CIFS-Directory is mounted. With the regex it looks like this: root@ubuntu2004:/# su - user Segmentation fault root@ubuntu2004:/# 3. [Bug 1891552] [NEW] Segmentation Fault when using regex in (cifs) volume
Public bug reported: Hello, there seems to be a bug in libpam-mount in version 2.16-10 used in Ubuntu 20.04. Then I retested during a running session on the command line and I'm getting the error message Segmentation fault when I login to another user. If I remove the 'regex="yes"' everything works. If I remove the "and" condition everything works. If I downgrade the libpam-mount package to version 2.16-3ubuntu0.1 of Ubuntu 18.04 everything works including using the regex condition. [Bug 1867526] [NEW] EXIF location in Eye of MATE image properties is not displayed properly
Public bug reported: To reproduce: 1. Open a geotagged JPEG/EXIF image in Eye of MATE Image Viewer. (Sample file attached.) 2. Click Image > Properties, and examine the information displayed on the tabs. Expected results: * On the Metadata tab, the Location field has the coordinates. (I suppose that’s what it’s meant to do.) * On the Details tab, under Other, I can see the the correct latitude and longitude from the EXIF data in a legible format. Actual results: * On the Metadata tab, the Location field is empty. * On the Details tab, under Other, latitude (and latitude reference) is not displayed at all. * In the same place there is a field named GPSLongitudeRef and another named GPSLongitude. They have the correct data, but longitude is in a non-obvious format. It took me a while to figure out that 6, 31. 44.023 is meant to be 6° 31′ 44.023″. * Altitude (and reference), speed (and reference) and date/time are displayed correctly. Software versions: Ubuntu MATE 18.04, all updates/patches applied as of 2020-03-15. Further information; An image for testing is attached. When opened in JOSM, its GPS data is parsed correctly, which rules out corrupt EXIF data. I have also observed this behavior with other images from other sources. Opinions on the “correct” coordinate format vary. Some prefer decimal degrees, others prefer degrees/minutes/seconds. It would be nice if I could choose between these two. The display of the speed reference could be improved. That K stands for km/h, not knots, is not immediately apparent, given that many GPS applications (notably the NMEA standard) use knots internally. ** Affects: eom (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Sample image. I am still getting a dark screen every now and then, even though I mostly work on AC power. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715749 Title: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1715749/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

With Ubuntu 18.04 LTS or Ubuntu 18.10 and full disk encryption enabled, after I install the nVidia drivers I also receive the blank screen though I can type the passphrase in and it will continue to boot successfully. [Bug 958127] Re: Will not change size after having a puzzle solved
Hi, I had the same issue. Clean Ubuntu 18.0.4 install. Tetravex on first initialization requested board size. Now stuck with 3x3 board. I Managed to bypass this by changing a local file. gnome-tetravex uses a -s (--size) {2-6} parameter to specify board size. File changed: ${HOME}/.local/share/gnome-shell/application_state #added size parameter which affect the startup from the menu. NOTE: This entry WILL be overwritten with next game, using new board size, but the change seems to 'stick'. [Bug 1800003] [NEW] evince crashes in FcConfigParseAndLoad
Public bug reported: I have the following situation persistently on my system (Ubuntu 18.04.1 on Dell Latitude E6500): Evince called with any pdf file crashes immediately with a segmentation fault. From the crash dump, I see that the crash happens in fontconfig's FcConfigParseAndLoad function, i.e. when the system fonts.conf is read. I can reproduce the crash with the following minimal example: #include const FcChar8* filename = "/home/mirkoh/fontconfig-test/fonts.conf"; FcConfig* config; int main(){ FcConfigParseAndLoad(config, filename, FcTrue); } The fonts.conf file used here is also absolutely minimal: (Get me right. It first happened with my system fonts.conf, which is not empty. In order to find out whether a specific entry lead to the crash, I deleted entry after entry, ultimately reaching the file above, and always FcConfigParseAndLoad crashes. [Bug 1799853] [NEW] German translation of "Create New Note" template breaks functionality
Public bug reported: Working with 18.04.01, package 1.15.9-0ubuntu1 When Tomboy 1.15.9 is used in a German locale, new notes are created with a nonsensical title. In the English locale, the title would be eg. "Note from 2018-10-28, 02:58:34.123". In German, it is "Notiz von -10-TT, 02:58:34.123". Clearly the date part is nonsense. The reason for this is that the string "-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fff" creating the time stamp (line 483 in NoteManager.cs) is first fed into Catalog.GetString() and then into DateTime.Now.ToString; i.e. it is translated before being processed. Now in the German .po file, there is "-MM-dd, HH:mm:ss.fff" as a translation for "-MM-dd, HH:mm:ss.fff". This breaks the "ToString" functionality and leads to the above mentioned effects. It is easy to correct this: either remove the call of Catalog.GetString() for the above mentioned string, or remove the "translation" of this string (if for some reason the call is required for other languages). ** Affects: tomboy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799853 Title: German translation of "Create New Note" template breaks functionality To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/1799853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1768556] [NEW] Tilde/macron is no longer a dead key on German keyboard
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Enable the German keyboard layout. 2. Open a text editor of your choice. 3. Press AltGr and + (second key after P), then press a. 4. Press AltGr + Shift and +, then press a. Expected behavior: Key acts as a dead key, the key sequences produce ã and ā, respectively. Actual behavior: Key acts as a regular key, the key sequences produce ~a and ¯a, respectively. This breaks the ability to easily input diacritics for several languages (including Portuguese, Spanish, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian). Additional information: Both keystrokes acted as dead keys in Ubuntu 16.04. I doubt removing the dead key functionality was intentional: While I do understand that some people might need the tilde key frequently but hardly ever need a tilde accent, I cannot think of many situations in which one would require a bare macron. Plus, for situations in which dead keys are undesirable, there is also a “nodeadkeys” variant of the German layout, which has been around for some time. RE: [Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
Extreme Thanks, UEFI failed also destroyed my boot loader and I had a dead machine for a while. Working again now. Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Dhanraj Prem Kotian Sent: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 12:51 PM To: gvf0...@yahoo.com Subject: [Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed The way I solved this problem was simple. I had the option of installing Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, either using uefi mode or the device boot option (invoked through the BIOS startup by pressing ESC or F2). When I installed using uefi mode, I got this error. What I did next was to boot my USB through the device boot option in the BIOS startup and there was no aforementioned problem. [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1
I noticed another issue recently: when the device displays woke up after a period of inactivity, the picture of the external (!) display was stretched vertically by a factor of 2, with the bottom half missing. I took a screenshot, but that looked OK and didn’t reflect what I actually saw. Also, with the original issue, I tried switching to a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and back to the GUI (Ctrl+Alt+F7), but the internal display remained black and came back to life long after the main one. Looks like switching to a text console and back to the GUI has no effect. [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1
After today’s updates, I am seeing another strange issue: whenever all displays go out due to inactivity and I touch the keyboard or mouse again, the internal display starts to flicker. It looks as if the entire image is shifted by some 25% of its width to one side, then to the other (with the part that would be outside the display area wrapping around to the other end of the display). It flickers back and forth between the two offsets somewhere near the refresh rate. [Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04
Thank you Sean for your explanation and for looking after Xubuntu 18.04 bugs here on Launchpad. So you can't reproduce the mouse acceleration problem. This makes the bug much harder to track down, if it only effects some people – or maybe if it affects many people but some not. :-( We have here in this report at least three people who're being affected. Not to mention user "Cruxic" who opened the same bug report for Xubuntu 17.10 already in the end of last year and to which I link to in my #1 post above. I can reproduce the mouse acceleration bug on two very different x86 machines of mine, with totally different mice, and whenever I encounter the same bug on these different machines, in most cases it's a real bug and no configuration problem. So how could we help to further pin down this nasty bug? Furthermore, shall I open new bug reports for a few more bugs, i.e. is the "Xubuntu" tag sufficient for you developers to find our bug reports? (I would like to report another bug then: Xfce4's icon-bar exporter doesn't work anymore, the save dialogue doesn't save anything.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758023 Title: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1758023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04
How do we make this bug aware to the Xubuntu team? Did I use the wrong tags in the bug report? Because the bug is a real showstopper and apparently already exists since Xubuntu 17.10… ie since October 2017. But hardly anybody notices it? How many Xubuntu users are still out there? If its not fixed, all Xubuntu 18.04 LTS users will have to live with non-configurable mouse speeds for 3+ years. That would be very bad. And how do we make the Xubuntu team aware of other bugs? Like package "gtk-theme-config" missing since some days, and it not having been installed by default before. ** Tags removed: team -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758023 Title: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1758023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1729762] Re: Mouse acceleration/sensitivity adjustment has no effect
Could this be related to my freshly reported bug? [Bug 1758023] Re: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04
Maybe related to the following bug report for Xubuntu 17.10 from November 2017 ? "Mouse acceleration/sensitivity adjustment has no effect" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1729762 Since I don't use Xubuntu 17.10 however, I can't tell. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758023 Title: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1758023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1758023] [NEW] Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: 1) Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch), Release: 18.04 Fresh installation from Xubuntu 18.04 beta1 ISO, and "apt updated" daily. 2) package: xfce4-settings 4.12.3-0ubuntu1 3) What to expected to happen? Running the application "xfce4-mouse-settings" from the above package, changing the sliders "acceleration" and "sensitivity" should change the mouse speed. 4) What happened instead? The sliders have no effect, i.e. you change the mouse acceleration and sensitivity sliders but both don't haven't any effect on the mouse. Tested on several different machines with different mice. With Xubuntu 16.04 the xfce4-mouse-settings still work fine on the same machines. While "xfce4-mouse-settings" doesn't work in Xubuntu 18.04 on these machines, chaneing the mouse speed with GNOME's "gnome-control-center" works fine on the same installation. Maybe the bug is related to the new libinput system introduced in Ubuntu 18.04? The terminal command: mouse [accel] [threshold] [mouse default] doesn't change the mouse speed in Xubuntu 18.04. However the terminal command:; xinput does work in Xubuntu 18.04, but it only knows one parameter instead of the two used by "xfce4-mouse-settings". For example the following works for me: xinput set-prop "PixArt USB Optical Mouse" "libinput Accel Speed" -0.6 ** Affects: xfce4-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 18.04 bugs team xubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758023 Title: Mouse acceleration not configurable in Xubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1758023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1
I just set the screen timeout to Never; dimming was already disabled. I did this only for the AC profile, not the battery profile, as I’m on AC power most of the time. [Bug 1574501] Re: Zabbix-agent needs valid home directory
/var/run is a symlink to /run, which is a tmpfs. All files and directories there get deleted during a reboot. [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1
Re 1: the issue started to happen after I moved the hard disk to the 840 G1 (from a 6930p), which was around August/September. Updates usually get installed within a day (unless I have only limited Internet access, which was not the case when I switched laptops), thus the system should have been fairly up-to-date at the time. Re 2: I will keep an eye on this, may take a while though (most of the time the system is docked or has an external display connected). Re 3: I would say several times per day (i.e. 8–16 hours of usage), every few hours on average. I’ll keep an eye on it and report back.

Well, that didn’t take long: screen just went black again for somewhere around a second. Let me know if you need further input from me. BTW: currently working without a dock, with an external screen attached via DP (which has also experienced the bug before the update)—so the dock doesn’t make a difference.
