[Bug 907837] Re: Scrollbars - difficult to resize panels with overlay scrollbar

2013-02-24 Thread Yann Dìnendal
adrian-v: Fix released for a package (here, it is for overlay-
scrollbar (Ubuntu)) means the current development release (currently,
raring). If it is backported to the current stable or LTS release, it
will be specified in the bug report.

But...
I'm currently on raring with an up-to-date overlay-scrollbar
(0.2.16+r359daily13.02.06-0ubuntu1) and I tried resizing the left panel in
Nautilus, but it doesn't seem to work. Nothing has changed from before: I only
get the horizontal resize cursor for a fraction of second before the overlay
scrollbar appears, and then, I can't get the resize cursor to appear on the
thumb.
Even if I try resizing from the thumb, nothing happens.

I see both branches are Needs Fixing by jenkins, so maybe the fix
never actually got anywhere?

[Bug 1055793] [NEW] During upgrade, debconf asks about a modified file after an LTS upgrade

2012-09-24 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Public bug reported:

During an upgrade from Precise to Quantal, I got a debconf prompt asking if I
want to replace a configuration file.
But the difference was between 'Prompt=normal' and 'prompt=normal'
(capitalization).
I didn't edit this file manually, and I remember having seen this prompt on
another computer, so it means that when the option to see all upgrades (instead
of just LTS ones) is checked, it is wrote in a different way from what has been
set as default for Quantal.
So either debconf should not bother me about a capitalisation difference, or
the default config file of Quantal should be written the same way as what is
written by the update-manager's properties window.
Sorry, I don't remember the name of the package with this prompt, so I'm
guessing it was update-manager.

[Bug 681348] Re: Build show me the desktop mini-app that adds a show desktop button to Launcher

2012-07-20 Thread Yann Dìnendal
** Description changed:

Keyboard shortcut to minimise all windows required.

  Description:

Ubuntu used to have a button on the bottom left corner of the screen
that minimised all windows. This button was equivalent to a button that
used to exist in MS Windows prior to the advent of Vista/Windows 7. In
Unity this button has been removed, however a 'minimise all' function is
still useful to allow users to go directly to their desktop.

  Competitive analysis:

Minimise all windows functionality in other operating systems.

Windows 2000 Windows XP: Button on desktop and Windows Logo+D key
combination
Window 7: Windows Logo + D key combination only
  OSX: Option-Command-M Key combination only

  Change request:

  - Create a small application that when clicked minimises all windows.
Users who would like a 'minimise all windows' button can then add this
application to their launcher. This app will not be in the Launcher by
  default.

- - It should be possible to drag and drop the 'Shot Desktop' icon to
+ - It should be possible to drag and drop the 'Show Desktop' icon to
place it into any position in the Launcher

- Preferred method of enabling Show Desktop icon in Launcher
+ Preferred method of enabling Show Desktop icon in Launcher

  - A user would add the app to the launcher via either installing it from
the software centre or by dragging and dropping it from the dash. It
should be possible to change it's position in the Launcher by dragging
and dropping in the same manner as any other application. This mini-
app can also be run directly from the dash. Note that mini-app *should
  not* be a ccsm option.

[Bug 993267] [NEW] Indicator-Messages should turn blue when receiving a chat message in Thunderbird

2012-05-02 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Public bug reported:

Thunderbird already turns the indicator-message icon blue when receiving new
mail (Bug 957922).
It should also turn blue for new messages.
This is currently a default feature in Aurora (and maybe Beta now), but not
very useful without notifications.

[Bug 988997] Re: Keyboard shortcuts - Update some window management shortcuts to use Ctrl + Super instead of just Super (Part 2)

2012-04-26 Thread Yann Dìnendal
About the show desktop shortcut, which is one of the most well known
shortcuts, I think it would be better to keep the existing Ctrl + Alt +
D.

If the rational is that Ctrl + Shift is used to interact on a window while
Ctrl + Alt lets interacting with workspaces, I would argue that while Ctrl +
Shift interacts with the current window, this is not what Show desktop does.
It hides all the windows. Seen another way, it lets us view the workspace
behind the current windows.
So I don't think that Ctrl + Alt + D to show the desktop would contradict the
new Ctrl + Shift vs Ctrl + Alt distinction.

[Bug 987023] [NEW] Upgrading to a new release displays a fuzzy icon in the launcher

2012-04-22 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Public bug reported:

In Oneiric, type `update-manager -d`, accept the upgrade. A new window opens,
which uses a new launcher item instead of the main update-manager icon. The new
icon is low resolution, and doesn't display a progress bar, like the main
update-manager launcher item does.
And it is possible to launch another instance of the distrib upgrade window.

I think all these problems would be resolved by doing the actual upgrade
in the main window.

[Bug 983248] Re: Dash - the text in range filters is micro-sized

2012-04-17 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Yes it is, thaks for asking. Gigabyte is gigaoctet in French, so GB is
translated to Go.
But you can see the translation can still be too long in the attached
screenshot, as the French translators use the binary prefix (kibi instad of
kilo), so the filter 100 kio doesn't fit.

A bit off topic, but this is what I'm talking about:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octet_(computing)

In the Music lens, the decade filters now fit, but they needed to
translate them to 60s, which is understandable in the context, but not
something any French would write or say. We don't say the sixties but
something like the '60' years. It was previously translated correctly
(années 60 if I remember correctly), so every filter only displayed
….

[Bug 962823] Re: software-center crashed trying to load icons while a upgrade was running

2012-04-17 Thread Yann Dìnendal
I got this bug when updating too. I don't have any default icon theme missing.
While the updates installed, I searched for an uninstalled application in the
dash, clicked to open it in the software-center, and got this crash. I tried
several times to open it and it crashed each time.
Now that the updates installation is finished, I can open software-center.
i have again installed updates, and tried to reproduce it, but software-center
opened correctly, so maybe it only happens when the software-center has not yet
been opened in the current session?

[Bug 983248] Re: Dash - the text in range filters is micro-sized

2012-04-16 Thread Yann Dìnendal
I think this is because the translation of these filters didn't fit in
some languages. So if the text is made bigger, you should make sure the
buttons get bigger too, so the text doesn't get truncated like it was
before.

Re: [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2012-03-09 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Renzo: In precise (ubuntu 12.04), you can resize the window by grabbing the
overlay scrollbar, which is much larger than the border, and available
regardless of the session type (unity-2d or anything else).

Yann Dìnendal

On Fri, Mar 9, 2012 at 16:42, Renzo Bagnati 160...@bugs.launchpad.netwrote:

Are there any plans to address this bug for unity-2d, after having marked
it as critical? Recently the resize grips in the bottom right corner have
been entirely removed from precise, leaving the resize process of windows
 very difficult in unity-2d.
I use the attached script (50_light-themes-borders) in /etc/X11/Xsession.d
to copy the Ambiance and Radiance themes to the $HOME/.themes user
directory and then modify the border width to 3 pixels, for normal frame
geometry. The modifications are made only if unity-2d session is used and
are reverted for other sessions. However the script may break if changes
are made to the original themes. There must be surely a better way to do
 this...

 Bug description:
  *
   No more comments needed

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this
during the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow
 resize on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :

 https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtkhttps://launchpad.net/%7Ebratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  distance name=left_width value=3/
  distance name=right_width value=3/
  distance name=bottom_height value=3/

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of misses when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
invisible region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System
Preferences Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).

[Bug 903203] Re: Firefox aurora crashes after ajax call

2011-12-12 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Well, it was not because of an ajax call, but because of a javascript error.
Chrome throws an error in the javascript console
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'share_price' of undefined
but Firefox segfaults.

** Summary changed:

- Firefox aurora crashes after ajax call
+ Firefox aurora crashes after javascript error

[Bug 333401] Re: language-support-translations-* installs evolution-documentation-* and should not be required.

2011-11-14 Thread Yann Dìnendal
Thanks Tristan! I didn't thought about checking if it was still needed.
I've let aptitude uninstall it, then.

[Bug 333401] Re: language-support-translations-* installs evolution-documentation-* and should not be required.

2011-10-18 Thread Yann Dìnendal
This bug is still present in oneiric: language-support-translations-en
shouldn't depend on evolution-documentation-en! It could recommend it
instead of depending on it, but it's not even necessary as evolution is
no longer included in the CD!

 $ sudo aptitude remove evolution-common
The following packages will be REMOVED:
   evolution-common
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 10.1 MB will be freed.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   language-support-translations-en: Depends: evolution-documentation-en which
 is a virtual package.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

  Remove the following packages:

[Bug 876447] Re: Two-finger scrolling scrolls horizontally and vertically simultaneously

2011-10-17 Thread Yann Dìnendal
I think it would be nice allowing scrolling down and then right without raising
the fingers, and only preventing when scrolling diagonally or when the sideway
move is much shorter than the original scroll (aka, a wobble).
But if it is too hard to implement, simply disallowing a scroll in another
direction like you suggest would be a good start.
