The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 17840 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Reproduces on ubuntu and kubuntu. Not reproduces in firefox 3b1 on nokia
n810. This is probably security vulenarability (remote DOS).

[Bug 66394] Re: boot stops if partition absent

2006-10-18 Thread Yasha Davidov
I am reopening this bug because the boot proccess shouldn't stop without an
error message.
When the partition in /etc/fstab is absent boot proccess doesn't stop when fsck
is off. So it shouldn't stop if fsck is on.
Security team members can unsubscribe from this bug. But I think that hard disk
failure should not gain root access so easily.

[Bug 66394] Re: boot stops if partition absent

2006-10-17 Thread Yasha Davidov
1. Boot proccess should not stop silentely without (!) error messages.
(that is the main thing about this bug)

2. There are some situations when user has not full physical access.
AFAIK recovery mode asks for root password. So any error (hw or sw)
which leads to boot failure (and I think this kind of error should _not_
lead to boot failure) can not gain root without password promt. Anyway
security aspect is not main thing.

[Bug 66394] boot stops if partition absent

2006-10-16 Thread Yasha Davidov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initscripts

By default dapper installer sets all dos partition to be checked on boot
( https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/dosfstools/+bug/59293 ).

I have several hard drives and one of them is in mobile rack. If I
remove one drive fsck cannot find dos partitions and boot proccess
fails. And I get root shell without password on boot.

I think this is security vulnerability but not very critical.
