The problem seems to be that ndiswrapper-dkms does not install as a
dependency. After installing ndiswrapper-dkms, I was able to use the
I am having the same issue. The launcher is hidden because I have a

There is also a 4th category which belongs to laptops with a removable
floppy drive. I agree that this bug is far from solved. My workaround is
to regress to udisks 1.0.1-1build1 and disable the floppy controller
when the drive is removed. This should not have to be done. I appreciate

I can confirm that the regression to udisks (1.0.1-1build1) will enable
the use of the floppy drive but brings back the original bug. There is
still no solution for a removable floppy drive.

This fixed my original problem but now the floppy drive doesn't work

In addition to the MTRR range not set, there is no OverlayMem
specified by xorg.conf. This causes the multimedia player to close
unexpectedly when attempting to play a video file.
It also seems impossible to display a video larger than DVD resolution
regardless of the OverlayMem specified. The

Can you please check in your bios and see if there is any mention of a floppy

I have this bug on a Sony laptop with a removable floppy drive that may
be used occasionally. I see repeated attempts in the logs to mount a
floppy when the drive is not attached. This also prevents USB drives
from auto-mounting and makes playing DVD movies impossible.

I believe we are dealing with 2 different bugs here. One in Ubuntu and
one in Xubuntu. In Ubuntu I already have hald running at boot. The
problem that Rami Autiomäki and I have occurs when there is a floppy
controller but no floppy drive. Is it possible to split this off to a
separate bug?

I had this issue as well as USB drives and optical discs refusing to
auto-mount. See Bug #546992 . Both were solved by either inserting my
removable floppy drive or disabling the floppy controller in the BIOS.
It would be interesting to know how many other systems affected by this
bug have floppy
I also found that forcing Nautilus to restart by running killall
nautilus in a terminal will temporarily fix the problem. I don't know
if Thunar works the same way but those of you with Xubuntu may want to
try this.

Xubuntu 10.04 usb automount fails if autologin is on
I just made a huge breakthrough in this bug. Keep in mind, I may have a
different bug than the others since I am using Ubuntu not Xubuntu.
Checking the log files I see:

I discovered that auto-login has nothing to do with it in my case. USB

Looks like I'm the only one with this problem so far. I'd be happy if
someone could tell me where to add a script to make the needed mtrr

I also discovered that the image on the external monitor shimmers when

Windows 2000. It also does not happen when the internal monitor is

I can confirm this bug still exists. I just updated a couple of hours

login. I also discovered that they will auto-mount if I log in as a
guest.
