[Bug 1031654] Re: Unable to connect
I knew that problems like this may arise. If you are interested I have a quite crazy solution: Edit the wallch executable with a hex editor. I tried it but it is a bit tricky so you have to be careful and follow exactly the steps: You said that your company has blocked your outbound pings, but not the inbound (for example, you are able to ping localhost or 127.0.0.1, right?) I will write down what it worked for me. The 1st thing to check is whether you are able to ping 127.0.0.01 (yes *exactly* this address) with the command: ping -c 1 -w 2 127.0.0.01 If ping exits successfully read on, if not, then find a ten-letter ip adress or server that you can successfully ping and then read on, but where I say 127.0.0.01 replace it with the server/ip you can successfully ping: 1) Download Bless hex editor: sudo apt-get install bless 2) Copy wallch executable to your Desktop: cp /usr/bin/wallch ~/Desktop/ 3) Open Bless 4) Go to Edit-Preferences, and, under 'General', where it says 'Temporary Directory:' write in (do not select to open the dialog to select the /tmp direcotry, just write, type in:) /tmp and click on 'Close' 5) Open the wallch executable which is at your desktop (Ctrl+O and select it) 6) Press Ctrl+F, and on the right of the search bar, where it says 'as Hexadecimal', make it say 'as Text'. Type in the search field google.com and hit [Enter] 7) Only one occurrence will be found, write out google.com (VERY carefully) and replace it with the ip you can ping, like 127.0.0.01 8) After you are done, click on File-Save as and choose to save it at the desktop as wallch1 9) Right click on wallch1-Properties-Permissions-Allow executing file as program 10) That's it! Run wallch1, and, if the internet functions work nice then replace /usr/bin/wallch with this wallch1 and you are done! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1031654 Title: Unable to connect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wallch/+bug/1031654/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello David! I think I know what causes your problem. It is the fact that you had the old configuration of the program. Click the down-right button (normally 'Save') to save and restart Wallch. Alternatively remove the directory ~/.config/Wallch to remove the old configuration and restart Wallch. [Bug 928605] Re: Shift Live Earth wallpaper
David, thank would be a nice suggestion, but the image isn't so big (its resolution isn't enough for this). Ok, a little explanation here, I had as a fault dependency from the 1st place the libnotifymm-dev which has as dependency the libnotify-dev, which is the one I actually need and that's why everything worked just fine with the wrong dependency. [Bug 752371] Re: Applications that use close to system tray are removed from launcher, but continue to run
Martin Eve is right! Unity should at least provide the basic things for applications to run! Don't forget that there are some applications that are cross-system and so they cannot change so as to 'fit' to Unity... Tray is one of the most important features of an OS that makes it user-friendly, as it provides easy and quick access to an application without focusing on it or disturbing the user of what he/she's doing at the current moment. What is more, there are applications that are designed to run exclusively (or not) from tray(i.e. Desktop Drapes or even the top video player, VLC!!!). All these applications are buggy now or don't work at all. Now, applications that are going to tray have to be killed (macabre and not so user-friendly as default). I don't know but a solution has to be found, soon. Maybe the tray has to return as a very small panel (that exists only if there is a minimized application) at the right-down corner that appears on mouse above it (as the current Unity's panel at the left side). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752371 Title: Applications that use close to system tray are removed from launcher, but continue to run -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 674642] [NEW] notify-send doesn't show images that name includes comma (, )
Public bug reported: notify-send Text goes here -i /pics/path/goes/here By using this way, notify-send doesn't show the image if it has a comma in its name! See here: Same thing happens when the directory of the image has comma(s) into its name! See here: The strange is that commas are not recognnized as special characters by the terminal. For instance, you can say 'mkdir alex, leon' and a directory with the name alex, leon will be created! Same with 'cd alex, leon' and 'rm -rf alex, leon' ! I found it quite strange! ** Affects: libnotify (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- notify-send doesn't show images that name includes comma (,) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674642 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
