[Bug 781743] Re: Ubuntu Natty can't suspend on an Asus X52F-XR5R (i3); blank screen
This was still an issue in Precise Pangolin, and the same script fixed it. I'd bet that's the case for the hundreds of other people in the comments section of that site. [Bug 753971] Re: Display garbled when connecting external displays
I still have major issues with this myself. They closed the ticket, but where are all those tickets tracking the remaining issues? Or do they hope we'll open new tickets again in a constant battle with them? I don't want to appear negative or anything, but I'm just disappointed. What should I state in those new tickets when the problem is as simple as plug in monitor - crash burn? I suspect they lack resources and would want to get rid of the bugs asap just so they can add NEW functionality. Perhaps someone should forward this to the people in charge and tell them they're not improving usability at all by creating ambitious projects like Unity while the rest of the code base is deteriorating. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753971 Title: Display garbled when connecting external displays To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/753971/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 753971] Re: Display garbled when connecting external displays
I'll second Ben Romer's observation. It seems to have gotten better, but it's a long way from smooth functioning. I hope I won't come across as unhelpful (by not providing specific details), but a testing routine should be pretty simple: * Plug unplug the external monitor make sure everything still works * Suspend then wake up with the external monitor plugged in make sure everything still works * Restart the Ubuntu system with the external monitor plugged in make sure everything still works * Suspend then wake up with the laptop lid closed the external monitor plugged in make sure everything still works * Restart the Ubuntu system with the external monitor plugged in the lid laptop closed make sure everything still works * In the above points, try opening the lid when the system is running (if it was closed) Currently, all of the above points will cause major problems, sometimes to the point of requiring a reboot.

[Bug 786839] Re: AppArmor does not and cannot start
Thanks for your help. Actually I did not currently have SELinux installed. I did install it some time ago, but then I swiftly uninstalled it. [Bug 773762] Re: Non-pinned icons for running applications will not maintain their position in the Unity Bar
Another update: Sometimes it occurs even without having to be logged in (from a terminal) as root. Or, if you think this is a non-standard thing to do, try logging in as another standard user on the machine (su -l another_user). ** Description changed: Binary package hint: unity If I move a non-pinned icon for a running application to the middle of the Unity Bar (middle = having applications above and below it) and then I minimize and restore this application, the icon will be moved to the bottom of the Unity Bar. This makes it confusing as users usually arrange their icons and expect them to keep their positions unchanged. UPDATE (steps to reproduce): Using this, it will always happen for me: * Close all programs that have icons in the Unity Bar * Unpin all programs so that the Bar will be empty (except for those built-in items that you can't remove) * Start Transmission * Start Banshee * Minimize Banshee * Minimize Transmission * Now move the Banshee icon so that it will be above Transmission's icon in the Unity Bar * Now click on the desktop (anywhere in an empty spot) * Click on the Banshee icon Expected result: Banshee should keep its top position in the Unity Bar What actually happens: Banshee will be moved below Transmission UPDATE 2: It might only happen when the root user is logged in (not graphically, just in a terminal running under the normal user). When trying the above steps, I was logged in as root (su -l root) in a non-attached tmux session (root account enabled with sudo passwd -l root). Being logged in as root has been for a long time causing problems like not being able to restart (results in being logged out instead of restarting the computer if the root user was logged in in some terminal, at the moment of restart). This one... is way stranger though. (Why was I logged in as root - in a terminal? Because sometimes, when performing many administrative tasks it's easier than typing sudo in front of all commands). + + UPDATE 3: + + Sometimes it occurs even without having to be logged in (from a + terminal) as root. This makes it confusing as users usually arrange their icons and expect them to keep their positions unchanged. + + UPDATE (steps to reproduce): + + Using this, it will always happen for me: + + * Close all programs that have icons in the Unity Bar + + * Unpin all programs so that the Bar will be empty (except for those + built-in items that you can't remove) + + * Start Transmission + + * Start Banshee + + * Minimize Banshee + + * Minimize Transmission + + * Now move the Banshee icon so that it will be above Transmission's icon + in the Unity Bar + + * Click on the Banshee icon + + Expected result: Banshee should keep its top position in the Unity Bar + + What actually happens: Banshee will be moved below Transmission -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773762 Title: Non-pinned icons for running applications will not maintain their position in the Unity Bar -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 773762] Re: Non-pinned icons for running applications will not maintain their position in the Unity Bar
Update: It might only happen when the root user is logged in. When trying the above steps, I was logged in as root (su -l root) in a non-attached tmux session (root account enabled with sudo passwd -l root). Being logged in as root has been for a long time causing problems like not being able to restart (results in being logged out instead of restarting the computer if the root user was logged in at the moment of restart). [Bug 701141] Re: rss ulimit does not apply
Any updates? I can confirm this as well. Interestingly, other limits work; for example ulimit -v is enforced though it's not that useful. Will this get fixed? IMO, the rss limit is tremendously useful for killing processes that balloon out of control. VLC as of late will balloon out of control when playing many fake movies that can be found online. This is so important that I ended up writing my own Python script (running with SCHED_RR, priority 99) that will retrieve ballooning processes using ps and then proceed to kill them if their rss exceeds a certain amount. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/701141 Title: rss ulimit does not apply -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278648] Re: [regression]snd-hda-intel sound input does not work at all with Conexant CX20549 (Venice) chips
@c4pp4: I have a Fujitsu-Siemens V5545 using a Conexant CX20549 (Venice) chipset. I applied your patch but the microphone is still not functional. When using the lenovo model the input devices disappear from my list of devices as shown by alsamixer -D hw:0. When using the laptop-hpsense, laptop-micsense, laptop-hpmicsense, benq, laptop-hp530 models, and AFTER I unmute and raise the volume level for my input devices inside alsamixer -D hw:0, I can hear some crackling noise coming from my laptop's speakers when I plug / unplug my external microphone. Even so, the microphone does not appear to actually work - trying to record something in Audacity results in silence (actually in a slight digital equipment-like noise). When using the test model and after raising the volume level for all devices I can find in alsamixer -D hw:0 I can't even hear that crackling noise... What do you suggest I should try next? I'm not work-shy and don't expect solutions to be delivered on a plate, so please do tell whatever you have in mind. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278648 Title: [regression]snd-hda-intel sound input does not work at all with Conexant CX20549 (Venice) chips -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
