Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 screen tearing intel graphics
To manage notifications about this bug go
Public bug reported:
Running a Ubuntu 20.04 with its default (kmodesetting ?) driver. Screen
tearing is present and shows artefacts while scrolling in browsers
(firefox and chromium) and videos.
Ubuntu 5.4.0-40.44-generic 5.4.44
Processor/GPU is a core m5-6y54 (Skylake)
** Affects: ubuntu
This bug disappears if I go back from intel x driver to standard
modesetting driver. I didn't to that intenionally. I haven't been aware
of that, but to get xbacklight working (to change screen brightness) I
activated that. After removing that change in /etc/X11 mpv/celluloid
works without this
Guess I found the reason for this misbehaviour. To use xbacklight I
changed a X11 config file and started the intel driver instead of the
standard modesetting driver. This causes the issue. Back to standard
driver mpv/celluloid runs without the above workaround.
** Changed in: celluloid (Ubuntu)
What command beside mpv/Celluloid are suffered at your side?

iris driver for old cpu
To manage notifications about this bug go to:
As for me there are 2 ways to get rid of flickering, but both are not make me
happy:
Either in grub add:
- GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="intel_idle.max_cstate=4"
or (that is new to me)
- change screen resolution(!?!) Anything else than 1920x1080 works! If I can
add custom resolutions I would play with
@akechishiro: Did the above mentioned workaround works for you?

I am a bit disappointed of no progress here. Pushed system to recent
state - kernel 5.4.0-40 and other updates.
Issue keeps. I think that at least all Sandylake chips are suffered.
My workaround so far is adding
"MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965"
to ~/.profile
(Old OpenGL Driver (i965)
As of
Public bug reported:
X crashes when opening an eps file in GIMP, reliably around 2 seconds
after GIMP shows the image. Mouse pointer freezing in that time usually.
Ubuntu 20.04, latest updates as of time of writing.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Is there a chance that "flicker after reboot" (that seems to be a side effect
of the previous fix) is gone too?
Is it enough to save the /boot partition to recover system after tests?

As far as I see : no response from mailing-list. :( So all the effort
here is wasted?

For those wo asking where to set
Adding this line to ~/.profile helps for me as workaround.
"export MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=i965"
But this is a severe bug and should be fixed. I am curious what change
caused this?
