Re: [Bug 1068862] Re: upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 on a sans-pae CPU leaves kernel broken
Christopher, i understand the issues and am making the emotional adjustment. i was aware of the PAE thing HOWEVER i COULD have installed xubuntu 12.04 without any knowledge of PAE and arrived in xubuntu 12.10 as i have without even trying. IF i were such a naive user i'd be out on a limb, surprised and possibly disappointed. actually though i'm not stranded and have plenty of choice. certainly by the end of the 12.04 cycle this hardware will seem quite ancient. a test (for PAE support) in Software Updater prior to advertising a version update could have been done. yes i know hindsight is 20/20 BUT let's face it MANY if not MOST ubuntu installs are done to upCycle ex Windows boxes - old hardware is a BIG part of the scene. thanks for your efforts. [Bug 973778] Re: Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager
i have 2 32it installs of 12.04 (laptops) with Unity and Xfce (Xubuntu). on Computer A, Xubuntu was installed THEN Unity. on Computer B the standard Unity install was made THEN Xubuntu. the result of this is that A uses the Xubuntu login and B the standard login - sorry i don't know the details of the difference between these two logins. Manager, greeter ??? computer B HAS this problem but NOT for the original install administrator account - only subsequently created accounts. Computer A does NOT have this problem for any account. the problem happens only under Xubuntu NOT Unity. the main issue for me is that, since the power manager seems to be not working at all under effected logins, closing the lid does nothing even though settings say to Suspend. that is settings made under Unity - there are no settings under Xubuntu. this is not good for a naive user. i suppose a workaround is to install Xubuntu first and use the Xubuntu login - but i prefer the standard login for aesthetic reasons. i'm an Xubuntu user at heart as are my clients but i feel obliged to keep up with Unity as it is more mainstream. sorry for the rambling description - i'll try my workaround and report. i will put effort into whatever experiments might be thought necessary. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973778 Title: Unable to connect to Xfce Power Manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/973778/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 155231] Re: NV20 [GeForce3] nvidia not supported by nvidia-glx in gutsy
Well, now i'm using nvidia-glx i.e. - NVIDIA binary XFree86 4.x/X.Org driver xorg.conf pieces below. note it's in 16 bit mode so you wont get the fancier options in the Appearence menu, but OpenGL still works. Also i dropped the composite switch. Are your Monitor Synch ranges good ?? have a look in System Administration Screens and Graphics for a monitor that matches yours.
