Thank you so much, Timo. This has certainly been an annoying bug.
I have installed your -1ubuntu4.1.2 package and will report back if I
have any further problems.
Thank you also to Edward for providing a good explanation as to what
"Fix Released" means in this context.

Just to clarify, is this bug fixed in a current/scheduled-for-update
xserver-xorg-video-intel package, or is it only fixed upstream? I'm
currently using xorg-edgers packages to try to avoid the problem but
would like to revert to standard packages if a fix has been released to
stock Ubuntu 12.04.

Dac, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X200s with the same problem. My
workaround was a bit less drastic: I've moved to Unity 2D. It isn't
quite as slick to use, but it looks and behaves almost the same and I
haven't experienced the problem in four days of heavy use. (Suspend and
resume ~20 times a day.
I have noticed this as well on two of the three Intel-graphics laptops
that I have to test with. On both an IBM ThinkPad X40 (Intel 855gm, I
believe) and an HP Compaq 2710p tablet (Intel GMA x3100, apparently) the

Thanks for the fast response. This is great news!
Perhaps this functionality shouldn't be added to NetworkManager, as it
isn't really related to managing network connections. It seems best to
me that it should in fact be it's own tool, as it apparently already is.
So, while I agree that this is

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
In Ubuntu 8.04 and earlier there was a clear way, using network-admin, to

Thank you for the update.
If I'm not wrong, this would make it easier for end-users to "tweak"
permissions if you don't put a password on the grub menu entries (which
you should do anyway, as otherwise unprivileged users could be dropped
to a root shell)
I know it's a bit of security-through-obsc

The mounting for /host is done in the initramfs, which makes this tricky
(for me anyway) to track down. I've found a workaround for the problem:
Edit /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount/root_locale
Append ,umask=022 to this line:
echo ROOTFLAGS=\"${ROOTFLAGS}locale=$ROOT_LOCAL
Hello,
I am now facing the same problem. In the related question (#35664)

parameter in menu.lst via rootflags=YOURMOUNTOPTIONS"
Would it be possible for someone to provide a working an example of

Just to be clear, what you would like is for someone to send the text

Since nothing has been fixed here, this bug shouldn't be closed.
The problem still exists between the Via driver and Rhythmbox. Sure,
the problem may well be with the Via driver, but surely Rhythmbox
shouldn't crash when playing MP3 audio (not even using visualizations)
because of a bug in the vi
I, too, had this problem on my HP 2133 with a Via Chrome driver. I can
confirm that fiddling with the visualizations did indeed allow me to
play MP3s.
Since I don't like visualizations anyway, I found that just disabling
them with the gconf editor worked. Here's what I changed:
1) Open terminal
I can confirm that this has been the case since at least Ubuntu 7.10.
In Q#32163, Art Cancro mentions resorting the start order to "fix" the
problem. Indeed, the following solved my problem:
sudo mv /etc/rc2.d/S18nis /etc/rc2.d/S30nis
This is a serious bug for environments using Ubuntu with NIS
