Just resolved this issue. Apparently the g710+ keyboard has a game button
that disables the windows (super) key. Sorry for the bother.

The key worked fine for the past couple years until last week, and the
super keys are the only keys that are not working now. Seems unlikely to
be hardware. Hopefully it will get fixed in the kernel at some point.
Thanks for looking into it.

*For the below I used 14. Hitting the super key on either side produced no
results. Other keys did.*
*I tried 12 and 15 as well with the same result (no response). Thanks for
looking into this Daniel, let me know if there is anything else I can do to
help.*

Public bug reported:
Worked fine until recent reboot. Now the super key on the external
keyboard connected to a dock via thunderbolt port does not work. It
still works on internal laptop keyboard.
Tried switching to a few different languages but had no effect.

I had the same bug on an alienware (dell) pc. I followed the above link
from Giovanni and it seems to be caused by Dell Datasafe local backup
and Dell Datasafe local backup support software. I uninstalled those
two programs in windows (restored grub again) and have not experienced
the issue
