[Bug 1875159] Re: Official Skype on Ubuntu 20.04 "No device found"

2021-01-21 Thread brazzmonkey
After an upgrade to 20.04, Skype could not detect video and sound devices
anymore on my computer. Other software such as cheese or VLC worked fine.
As suggested by karl875180, loading uvcvideo module is the way to go.
I guess this module was automatically loaded before 20.04.
Add this module to /etc/modules so that it's loaded at boot time.

[Bug 982210]

2019-03-20 Thread brazzmonkey
bug 262271 looks similar to me. Either way, it's an old bug that basically
ruins user experience : browsing and reading feeds should be a easy task, only
basic functionalities are needed.
With akregator this simple task turns into a daily fight to get a chronological
list of articles. Ultimately that defeats the purpose of feed reader.

Hi,

sorry I no longer use Ubuntu (I switched to Archlinux years ago).
LibreOffice seems to behave correctly.

Cheers.

[Bug 291074] Re: memory leak in Network Manager Intrepid

2008-11-21 Thread brazzmonkey
i don't know if this bug is related to my case, but i noticed
networkmanager uses much, much, much memory. after 3-day uptime, top
gave me very high values such as 600m for networkmanager memory usage.

i run a 32-bit hardy LTS, with wireless.

[Bug 290153] Re: Fails to find boot device in Intel D945Gnt

2008-10-31 Thread brazzmonkey
i've got similar issue since kernel 2.6.27-6 (intrepid beta), 2.6.27-5 works
fine (this is the one i currently use).
my system is an acer 9814 featuring an intel mobo, kubuntu is 64-bit edition. i
have a fakeraid 2-disk setup with stripped / and mirrored /home.

waiting longer or setting longer boot delay doesn't work for me.
traditional kernel alive, kernel really alive message is not displayed
either. i just end up with the initramfs shell with an error message
saying that my /dev/mapper/my_root_raid_partition_here is not found ;
the only workaround i found is booting kernel 2.6.27-5.

this computer has been using ubuntu since edgy (6.10) mostly with 32-bit
editions, and no raid. i never came across this issue before.
i gave a try to opensuse 11.0 (which actually is how i set up my raid
configuration) and didn't have this issue either.

i'm not sure if my issue is actually related to this bug, but if it is,
something must have changed between kernels 2.6.27-5 and 2.6.27-7 and
this something could be the cause of my issue.

[Bug 269411] Re: Intrepid boot fails on 2.6.27 with software RAID1

2008-10-19 Thread brazzmonkey
i'm having similar trouble event though i'm not sure if this is related :
- i use a fakeraid 0+1 array (intel matrix)
- i installed intrepid beta using install guides to set it up on a
pre-partitioned raid configuration
- my system and OS are 64-bit

my system fails to boot using a kernel that's newer than 2.6.27-5. On both
2.6.27-6 an -7 i don't get the (traditional?)
kernel alive
Kernel really alive
message.

And after a while i also get this device does not exist alert and
busybox (initramfs) prompt.

[Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box

2008-01-21 Thread brazzmonkey
i've got a Belkin US wifi adaptor (ID 050d:705a), and i confirm the
workaround provided in the original bug description actually works.

funny thing, though, adaptor works out of the box on livecd (kubuntu
7.10), but needs this trick to be properly functional on a hard drive
installation. i thought it deserved to be mentioned.

i lately tried sabayon 64-bit live DVD. same thing happens. therefore i
believe it's not a ubuntu (64-bit) related bug, it's rather a bug
affecting openoffice when run on 64-bit platforms.

feel free to make OOo devs aware of this.

[Bug 123752] rlocate should be available as an slocate replacement

2007-07-03 Thread brazzmonkey
Public bug reported:

rlocate is an implementation of the locate command that is always up-to-date
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rlocate/

i already used rlocate on gentoo and archlinux with no overhead at all.
I couldn't build it on Ubuntu.

[Bug 117294] openoffice on feisty 64-bit : wrong behaviour when copy/pasting cells from calc to writer

2007-05-28 Thread brazzmonkey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Copy/pasting cells from OOo Calc to OOo Writer behaves oddly on Feisty
64-bit : the pasted object always displays the extreme top left cells.
User then needs to manually edit the pasted object in order to scroll to
the proper cells.

Copy/pasting cells works fine in Feisty 32-bit (proper cells are
displayed), only 64-bit is affected. This issue has been discussed and
confirmed here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=453265

No workaround except manual editing has been found yet. This may not be
related to OOo : maybe the way 32-bit applications are handled in a
64-bit environment is the culprit (only an assumption...)

OS : Feisty 64-bit (clean installation)
Affected application : Openoffice.org
reproducible : always

step to reproduce :
- open Calc and Writer on Feisty 64bit
- fill some random data in random Calc cells, say, A11, A12, A13
- select those cells, then copy them using Ctrl+C
- go to Writer paste them using Ctrl-V
- pasted object has correct dimensions, but displayed cells are in fact A1, A2
and A3 - this is the actual issue, not present on Feisty 32-bit which does
display A11-A13 cells
- edit the object by double-clicking it, scroll down to A11-A13 cells,
- end object edition by clicking anywhere on Writer page.
- you're done.

This is a very annoying bug when you need to copypaste thing 40-50 times
a day. This actually prevents me from using Feisty 64 on a daily basis.

[Bug 84726] rlocate should be available as an slocate replacement

2007-02-12 Thread brazzmonkey
Public bug reported:

please add this on wishlist.
rlocate is an implementation of the locate command that is always up-to-date
http://rlocate.sourceforge.net/

i successfully used this package on other distros (gentoo, archlinux),
and it is much more convenient than usual locate programs (slocate,
mlocate) because it really is always up-to-date. i never felt any
overhead using this program. Caveat : Capabilities and SELinux are
usually enabled by default in newest Debian, RedHat, SuSE etc.
distributions and you would have to recompile the kernel. This problem
will be probably solved in the future, when better stacking of security
modules is possible.

please consider adding this locate alternative in future releases.

[Bug 76565] /dev/parport0 not created

Public bug reported:

OS : kubuntu 6.10.

symptoms : parallel port (LPT1) node is not created even though a
detected peripheral is connected (hp printer in my case - this causes
the printer not to be functional).

workaround : manually create the node using the following command
