[Bug 405851] Re: Problems printing images with Xerox Phaser 8560DN gnome-print

2010-09-04 Thread bristleburger
Having increased the memory in my printer from 256 MB to 768 MB, I can
confirm that output.pdf now prints without issue.

Thank you for your post julian3ca :-)

Thanks for your post julian3ca.

I will try increasing the printer's memory as you suggest. But if this
does turn out to be the solution it's a pity that the printer isn't able
to produce a useful error message.

[Bug 405851] Re: Problems printing images with Xerox Phaser 8560DN gnome-print

2009-09-05 Thread bristleburger
Dear Pascal

Thank you for taking an interest in this bug.

The apport-collect and /var/log/cups/error_log were both collected after
attempting to print from EoG as requested. As before the Xerox-Phaser-
8560DN rebooted and the image was not printed.

But I was able to print from the command line using lp -o scaling=10
DSC04346.JPG. The scaling=10 was purely used to save ink :-)

Regards

Steve

[Bug 405851] [NEW] Problems printing images with Xerox Phaser 8560DN gnome-print

2009-07-28 Thread bristleburger
Public bug reported:

Attempting to print jpg images from Eye of Gnome to 'Xerox-Phaser-
8560DN' causes the phaser to reboot and the image is not printed.

This does not appear to be a cups issue because printing jpg images from
the command line using 'lp' works fine.

In order to print images from Eye of Gnome successfully it is necessary to:
   1.Print the image to a Postscript file ( e.g. 'output.ps')
2.Print the postscript file 'output.ps' using the Document Viewer.

I am using an up-to-date version of Jaunty.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Summary changed:

[Bug 62308] Re: Permission Denied on nfs clients for only some files

2007-05-05 Thread bristleburger
I have been running Feisty for a week or so now and can confirm that this
problem has been fixed in the 2.6.20-15-generic kernel (for me at least).
Feisty also fixes some other kernel related problems that I experienced with
Edgy so I think it is probably a good idea to upgrade.

[Bug 62308] Re: Permission Denied on nfs clients for only some files

2007-01-06 Thread bristleburger
This problem certainly does appear to be related to the edgy kernel. The
best solution for me was to reinstall the the dapper kernel and
restricted modules package on the server – this fixed my NFS and also
keeps my nVidia graphics card happy. All NFS clients can continue to run
the edgy kernel.

In my case I fixed the problem as follows:
1.Edit /etc/apt/sources.list to add dapper repositories (I added the following)
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper main restricted universe
deb http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-updates main restricted universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper-security main restricted universe
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ dapper-backports restricted main universe

2.Install linux-image-2.6.15-27-686 and linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.15-27-686 using either apt-get or synaptic.

3.Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst to move the 2.6.15-27-686 kernel entry above
the 2.6.17-10-generic entry.

4.Reboot.

This seems like a bit of a hack but it does work.

Previously when running the edgy kernel on the NFS server, I found that
network shares did not always show up when executing “sudo mount” on
remote hosts (although they were mounted). Since installing the dapper
kernel on the NFS server, the shares show up as expected.

As you say, good job the community is on the case here – there is no way
I would have thought of installing another kernel to fix this without
the information posted here, so thank you.

In view of the seriousness of this issue, it is very disappointing that
no official fix has been made available since the bug was first reported
in September.

[Bug 62308] Re: Permission Denied on nfs clients for only some files

2007-01-05 Thread bristleburger
I have recently upgraded fro dapper to edgy and believe that I also now
have this problem, the symptoms are as follows:

1. Gnome users settings often revert to default gnome settings when the user
logs in to hosts which mount /home over NFS;
2. The following error is often reported when starting evolution on hosts which
mount /home over NFS: “Failed to get lock using fcntl(2): Resource temporarily
unavailable”;
3. The following error is often reported when starting firefox on hosts which
mount /home over NFS: “Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To
open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or
restart your system”;
4. Thumbnails displayed by nautilus (either on the desktop or in file system
browser) occasionally revert to basic icons before the preview reappears again
a few seconds later. Once again this only occurs on hosts which mount /home
over NFS.

Users either logging into the NFS server directly or logging in remotely
using the gdm XDMCP chooser experience none of these problems.

Unfortunately my home network is now virtually useless :-(

[Bug 64615] Re: apt-get broken after upgrade to edgy eft (courier-authdaemon package)

2007-01-03 Thread bristleburger
I upgraded two machines from Dapper to Edgy using gksu update-manager
-c without any problems. Courier-imap and courier-maildrop were
installed on both machines.

But this bug struck when upgrading a third machine.

Fixed as follows:
1. backup /var/lib/dpkg/status to a safe location
2. remove all courier entries from /var/lib/dpkg/status
3. sudo apt-get upgrade
4. sudo apt-get install courier-imap
5. sudo apt-get install courier-maildrop

I am very grateful to HaroldAling for posting details of this fix – I
would have been in big trouble without it.

I subsequently upgraded two more machines without any trouble by
removing all courier packages before the upgrade and then restoring them
again once 6.10 was up and running.

All machines are x86 based apart from one Athlon machine which was the
one that the bug struck. I'm not sure if the type of CPU is relevant.
All machines were loaded with the same configuration of 6.06 packages.
