[Bug 1892825] [NEW] update-locale not perform correctly sanity checks

Public bug reported:

By passing wrong input as following:
 sudo update-locale LANGUAGE = en_US.UTF-8

run sudo anymore):

bentzy@bentzy-nb:~$ sudo vim /etc/default/locale
sudo: pam_open_session: Bad item passed to pam_*_item()

Fixed it booting from installation disk and fixing corrupted

Allow .js preference files to set locked prefs with lockPref()

Because this came up on the mailing list, I'll try to be explicit about
the decision here. I don't think we should allow extensions to lock
preferences, and we don't even have a clear description (other than this
code) of what it means to "lock" a preference: whether changes to the
default value are still allowed, or the user value, etc.

The code is the incidental part of this; it's the basic problem and
solution space that's totally unclear.

I don't know who wrote or reviewed that MDN page, but it's clearly not
precise: there are a fair number of flags that only apply on some
platforms. It's still true that mac doesn't use any of the remoting
flags: -remote, -no-remote, etc

The customer is using Elastic and hence he submitted a issue in Elastic
Search github post which they are pointing that this is a Kernel issue
and not a elastic search Issue :

Attached github post for reference :
https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch/issues/30667

For now, I have asked him to increase the kernel.watchdog_thresh
parameter from 10 to 20 to relax the situation.

The customer wants to know for sure whether this is a Kernel bug. I also
asked him to perform Kernel update. However, if he is confirmed that
this is a bug in the current Kernel, he is willing to do so in all the
65 servers.

The customer also submitted a bug to the Java process team which seems to be
causing the issue,
There reply was it is a kernel issue and the following launchpad link was given
although I personally think that is not really the case here. However, I may be
wrong :

[Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2016-05-18 Thread bs
This solved the issue:
Append to /etc/sysctl.conf the following:
net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing = 1

after restart you should see at /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_mtu_probing the
value "1"

A temporary solution is:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_mtu_probing
caveat: this will be reset at boot.

You can try also with value "2" if still not working.

(see explanation at:https://thesimplecomputer.info/pages/adventures-in-
linux-tcp-tuning-page2)

[Bug 263435]

2013-12-10 Thread Benjamin Smedberg (Mozilla) [:bs]
This patch, instead of killing all events going to the plugin, only kills
the ones that will generate movement on the page (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT,
SPACE...). I don't know about Mac, but on Windows, Java applets (or, at
least, the ones I've tested) doesn't properly return the event feedback to
 the browser.

That doesn't answer my question. Does the patch kill the events *before*
they get to the plugin, or *after*? We must certainly send plugins the
arrow keys and space.

Are control-t/w/r localized? I suspect they are, and so we can't just
hardcode the English letters, but really need the application frontend to
tell the plugin which keystrokes are special.

Yes, there should be a way for enabling/disabling this functionality,

The Firefox frontend should be in charge of this: perhaps the best
option is to have an API that the Firefox frontend can call set browser
shortcut keys and then the Firefox frontend can collect the keys that
matter from the command elements in the Firefox chrome.

Also, for plugins that install subwindows (Acrobat), does this keystroke
  hook still work? Or is
  this primarily for Flash?

Yes, it should. In fact, even if it appears to be embedded, Flash is just a
bunch of windows which share the Device Context with the browser.

Flash is typically a single subwindow. Acrobat is a whole hierarchy of
subwindows, and we only hook keystrokes for the toplevel window. That's
why I was asking about it.

[Bug 263435]

2013-11-20 Thread Benjamin Smedberg (Mozilla) [:bs]
The second passes all key events to both the plugin and the DOM, except
for the ones which generates movement events (arrow keys, space,
pageup/pagedown...). What does this mean precisely? In Windowless mode,
plugins are supposed to return true/false whether they handled any
particular keystroke, and we should only propagate the keystroke if the
plugin didn't handle it. This works on Mac, IIRC: does it not work on
Windows (at least for the popular plugins)? We can't have arrow keys
that move the page around and also do things within the plugin like text
navigation or gaming commands.

Are control-t/w/r localized? I suspect they are, and so we can't just
hardcode the English letters, but really need the application frontend
to tell the plugin which keystrokes are special. Also, for plugins
that install subwindows (Acrobat), does this keystroke hook still work?
Or is this primarily for Flash?

jmathies will be the eventual reviewer for this, but I think we should
probably break it apart into the windowless and windowed-mode patches,
which are pretty different.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2013-05-08 Thread BS-Harou
Hi,
this happens to me also in Ubuntu 13.04. Sometimes it happens when the
screensaver is active, but sometimes it happens even when I'm working with the
computer. In the second case I can go to console and restart the lightdm
service, but in the first case I have to REISUB to make things work again.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2013-05-07 Thread BS-Harou
@Lem: Most of the time I don't really need to write a new name. Mostly I
just want to copy the name or remove part of the name. Also I use both
Windows and Ubuntu and I don't want two different behaviors in my head.
I like the Windows way better and I'd like to stick with what I'm use to
- that is click-wait-click. I don't mind if it is not default behavior.
All I need is an option to turn it on.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2013-05-06 Thread BS-Harou
I just want to say I really miss this feature in ubuntu. Every time I
want to rename a file I firstly try this only to realize it is not
possible. I prefer using mouse to keyboard as much as possible and not
having this feature is really sad.

[Bug 73536]

2012-04-17 Thread Benjamin Smedberg (Mozilla) [:bs]
I am not the right person to review this, having never written anything
useful with signal handlers. If I understand this correctly, the signal
handler itself is signaling a pipe which wakes up the event loop. Is
this because it is not safe to make any GTK calls from within the signal
handler? I do think that eForceQuit is correct for SIGTERM, but I wonder
if we shouldn't be using eAttemptQuit for SIGQUIT, so that it can
properly prompt for unsaved work.

[Bug 73536]

2012-04-17 Thread Benjamin Smedberg (Mozilla) [:bs]
Oh, I confused SIGINT with SIGQUIT. SIGINT should presumably do normal
prompting, I guess SIGQUIT doesn't need to as you said.

Somebody who knows signal handlers and GTK well should be the primary
code reviewer for this patch (which isn't me). I suggest karlt.

[Bug 915616] Re: hide all windows breaks ALT + TAB switcher

2012-04-05 Thread Jeppe bs
I just booted up in 12.04 Beta 2 and recreated the problem.

I install compiz manager.

Enable Static Application Switcher

Then when i press Ctrl + Alt + D it breaks the application switcher.

it is a bit stupid. I mean, I dont really like the Static Application Switcher
I just want the functionality to ungroup application when pressing Alt + Tab.
Like in the old days (11.04?, Windows..) If only the Unity plugin in compiz
manager could do this I would not care about this issue.

[Bug 915616] Re: hide all windows breaks ALT + TAB switcher

2012-04-04 Thread Jeppe bs
I forgot to mention I have turned on this behavior from the Static
Windows Manager

Described here

http://askubuntu.com/questions/118152/static-application-switcher-is-
empty-after-show-dekstop

Another thing is that when i click some icon of the tray like Battery
Icon and the menu shows this also disables the ALT + TAB showing.

All these different settings for ALT + TAB through Static Application
Switcher, Application Switcher, Unity plugin... e.t.c. seem very
confusing to me. That would be really nice to clean up somehow.

[Bug 915616] Re: hide all windows breaks ALT + TAB switcher

2012-01-19 Thread Jeppe bs
I use the same steps

I press ctrl + alt + d

Desktop and launcher shows.

Then i try to alt + tab back to last app but nothing happens, have to
press an app in the launcher or ctrl + alt + d to to make the alt + tab
work again.

Maybe it has something to o with compiz manager? I have been playing
with settings about alt + tab and suddenly things worked as i wanted,
though i have no idea how it ended up like that.
