The lock button also failt to work on Ubuntu 13.04 after the upgrade.
Neither through the menu, nor through the shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+L).
Furthermore, the bug was not fixed by installing xscreensaver.

Are there any updates on this? We're having the same discussion over at
Bug #879218 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/879218) and everyone
there also agrees that the old behaviour is more desirable. The devs
don't seem to care though :(

Gareth has already provided a patch and so generously built and
distributed it for the rest of us (thanks a lot Gareth!).
