[Bug 1891205] Re: Julia crashes only on Ubuntu

2020-08-31 Thread Cedric Lh
I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 and I experienced the same crash occuring with
the following code:

--
x = zeros(Float64, (2,3))
permutedims(x)
--

no crash with Arrays of integers!

I thus uninstalled the julia package and, using the binaries available
from julialang.org (version 1.5.1), the problem is solved.

[Bug 1878921] Re: USB 3 NVMe SSD dongle doesn't flip

I don't recall seeing that error before. The 2 services I'm referring to are
the systemd services:
- usb_modeswitch@1-4.service
- and usb_modeswitch@2-4.service

I only realized that as I was trying to debug the error seen in the
attached log.txt in my previous post

So it seems to be working, however there are some errors in the logs. Not sure
they are critical.
Also I have 2 similar services, which could be the reason:
usb_modeswitch@1-4.service and usb_modeswitch@2-4.service

I reset to 0 the DisableSwitching configuration /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf
Then I unpack, renamed re-packed the configPack.tar.gz
I inserted the device and it works fine.
Should I submit a request to the "usb-modeswitch-data" package maintainer or
did you mention you will do it?

[Bug 1878921] Re: USB 3 NVMe SSD dongle doesn't flip

2020-05-15 Thread Cedric Rochefolle
Thank you for looking at this. I have used the config file to disable the
device then connected the adapter. Somehow it worked. Maybe I did something
wrong before.
Attaching the output, which shows a "Generic Display Device (Mass storage
mode)" product.

[Bug 1878921] [NEW] USB 3 NVMe SSD dongle doesn't flip

2020-05-15 Thread Cedric Rochefolle
Public bug reported:

I have a AM8180 AMicro adapter. It is an adapter for an M.2 SSD NVMe
disk to USB 3. It works fine on Windows, but on Ubuntu, when I plug it
in, the drive shows for a second then disappears. If I try to do fdisk
or gparted, it seems to lock something and I can't shutdown the laptop
(it is stuck on the Disk Management Unmounting step.

My info:
1) Release:
Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Release:20.04

2) Package version:
usb-modeswitch:
  Installed: 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3 500
500 http://th.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages

3) What I expect to happen:
I expect the drive to stay mounted

4) What happened instead:
The disk is mounted then immediately unmount. Before I create the partitions in
Windows, nothing mounted but the disk briefly appeared in the Disk Manager.

Attached is my (filtered) syslog when I plug to the USB-C (notice the message
advising to tell the developers about the model. Maybe it's just vendor info
missing).

I have modified 2 flags in /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf:
- DisableSwitching=0 changed to 1
- #SetStorageDelay=4 changed to un-commented
then restarted. That didn't help.

Hi,

For some reason apport-collect just exit at the end, and doesn't send anything
to launchpad...
No error, no crash -- just exit to shell when being instructed to send the
report.

$ apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-core 1799920
The authorization page:

should be opening in your browser. Use your browser to authorize
this program to access Launchpad on your behalf.
Waiting to hear from Launchpad about your decision...
$

(access granted to launchpad, answer the few questions asked, click
send... and it just exit).

Is there anything special I can provide manually?

Just got the external screen in the same state again (ie, blank) after
leaving the desk for 5-10 minutes.

While in that state, the external screens tells that it doesn't receive any
signal.
Switching it's input from it's usual DP input to another one, and switching
back again does restore the image.

[Bug 1711346] Re: gprolog toplevel fails on basic example (fixed upstream?)

2018-07-04 Thread Cedric Ware
Hello,

Thanks for your comment, Ian, and for reminding me again of this bug.

If it can help, I'm attaching a patch that lets the stable gprolog-1.4.4
compile with gcc 6.

OTOH, I'm not sure that this is actually the right place to report bugs,
because I suspect Ubuntu uses the Debian package more or less as-is.
Correct me if I'm wrong. As it happens, the bug has been reported in
Debian (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=861027), and
has prevented gprolog to be included in recent stable releases, I guess.

I submitted a follow-up to that bug, wait and see.

Best regards,
Cedric Ware.

I looked at the ftw_startup implementation in glibc, and think this line could
be exhausting the stack memory:
 data.dirstreams = (struct dir_data **) alloca (data.maxdir
 * sizeof (struct dir_data *));

The stacktrace shows data.maxdir is 1048566.
data.maxdir is coming from the nopendfd parameter of ntfw.

Looking at plink.c from aufs-tools package shows it uses the current number of
files limit as nopenfd:
err = getrlimit(RLIMIT_NOFILE, );
if (err)
AuFin("getrlimit");
nftw(cwd, func, rlim.rlim_cur - 10,
 FTW_PHYS | FTW_MOUNT | FTW_ACTIONRETVAL);

It looks like rlim.rlim_cur is 1048576 when auplink crashes.

Is auplink started by dockerd?
I can see on my system dockerd has it's max open files set to 1048576:
cat /proc/2603/limits

When i changed the theme to Gnome Vanilla, the problem disappears. So i'm not
sure if i should report the bug to ambiance theme or to thunderbird

[Bug 1725259] Re: general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP

2017-11-14 Thread Cedric Br
I tested with Debian buster and Fedora 27 and the file is playing
without any GPU hangs. So the problem might be Ubuntu only. I also
tested Ubuntu 18.04 (daily 13/11) and the hangs still occurs. FOr me
this isn't a kernel or DRM/Intel Bug

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

I use this nvidia driver:

I can boot with:
linux-image-4.10.0-37-generic 4.10.0-37.41~16.04.1 amd64

But it breaks (before I enter a passphrase to decrypt my drive) with this
kernel (same as above bug description):

What logs can I provide or what test can I run to help confirm this bug?

[Bug 1711346] [NEW] gprolog toplevel fails on basic example (fixed upstream?)

2017-08-17 Thread Cedric Ware
Public bug reported:

Hello,

In Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty), with gprolog 1.4.5-4.1, the toplevel
interpreter fails to execute valid code, including this basic example
copied from the manual:

krakatoa ~ % gprolog
GNU Prolog 1.4.5 (64 bits)
Compiled Feb 5 2017, 10:30:08 with gcc
By Daniel Diaz
Copyright (C) 1999-2016 Daniel Diaz
| ?- [user].
compiling user for byte code...
even(0).
even(s(s(X))) :- even(X).

user compiled, 2 lines read - 326 bytes written, 12353 ms

(3 ms) yes
| ?- even(X).

X = 0 ? ;
uncaught exception: error(existence_error(procedure,even/0),even/0)
| ?-

The same example works with all other versions of gprolog I tested: the
older 1.3.0-6.1 in Xenial; the stable version 1.4.4 downloaded from
http://www.gprolog.org/ (with commit cc8249 applied manually to fix
compilation); as well as a freshly-cloned git repository from
https://git.code.sf.net/p/gprolog/code . For instance:

krakatoa ~ % export PATH=/opt/gprolog-1.4.4/bin:$PATH
krakatoa ~ % gprolog
GNU Prolog 1.4.4 (64 bits)
Compiled Aug 17 2017, 12:18:48 with gcc
By Daniel Diaz
Copyright (C) 1999-2013 Daniel Diaz
| ?- [user].
compiling user for byte code...
even(0).
even(s(s(X))) :- even(X).

user compiled, 3 lines read - 321 bytes written, 3627 ms

yes
| ?- even(X).

X = 0 ? ;

X = s(s(0)) ? ;

X = s(s(s(s(0 ? ;

X = s(s(s(s(s(s(0)) ?

yes
| ?-

I believe the bug was introduced and fixed sometime between 1.4.4 and the
current code in git. It looks related to these messages in the users-prolog
mailing list. No fix was subsequently announced, but the current code works.
http://www.mail-archive.com/users-prolog@gnu.org/msg01032.html
http://www.mail-archive.com/users-prolog@gnu.org/msg01033.html

This bug makes Zesty's gprolog package unusable. Could you please update
it?

Thanks in advance,
Cedric Ware.

kernel branch (drm-tip).

Try a kernel here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-
tip/

I hope that those fixes will be included in kernel 4.12.

[Bug 1636486] Re: External screen flickers (esp. in terminals) with xorg modesetting driver on Intel Broadwell

2016-10-26 Thread Cedric M
Hi,

Doesn't looks like a duplicate of bug 1626935 to me!

The flickering in my case happens:
- only when something light happens in somewhere on the external screen (like
entering a single character in a terminal window). When nothing happens on
screen, or when using graphics-heavier apps (like a web browser), the screen
doesn't flicker
- the flickering is not similar to a triple buffering issue neither is related
to the nautilus wallpaper -- it looks like a DisplayPort reset (ie, as if you
disconnect/reconnect the monitor), with a 2-3s complete blackout of the monitor
- this is specific to the modesetting driver. The xserver-xorg-video-intel
driver is fine.

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1626935

[Bug 1636486] [NEW] External screen flickers (esp. in terminals) with xorg modesetting driver on Intel Broadwell

2016-10-25 Thread Cedric M
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm using a Dell XPS 13 (9343 // i7-5600U broadwell, 3200x1800 panel)
laptop, directly attached to an external Dell P2715Q 4K (3840x2160
@60Hz) via DP.

The 4K external screen is flickering when doing light activity -- easily
reproduced when using an X terminal.

Steps to reproduce:
- open side by side Firefox (or Chrome) + a terminal and/or a gvim window on
the external 4K screen
- do some light web browsing
- give focus to the X terminal or gvim
// at this point, display is still perfectly steady
- press a key to enter a single character
// as soon as the key is pressed, external screen goes black for a few
seconds. Laptop screen is not affected.
- Wait for the screen to come back, then continue typing
// screen generally stays ON, but sometimes continues to flicker a few times
in next minute.

This happens almost every time I switch to the terminal window and start
typing.

OS specs:
- Ubuntu 16.10 running Unity, modesetting Xorg driver
- kernel 4.8.0. Issue is still present with 4.9.0rc1.

The intel driver (cp /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf
/etc/X11) doesn't exhibit this issue.

[Bug 1298793] Re: Fails to launch in 14.04 (ubuntu-sso-login exited with status 1) (Permission denied: u'/home/.../.cache/sso/sso-client.log')

2016-09-20 Thread Cedric Bhihe
Problem appeared on my 14.04.5 yesterday soon after point-upgrade from 14.04.4
to 14.04.5.
@Marty Miller-Crispe's suggestion worked for me (installing `zope-interface`)
and my software-center resumed launching normally. However it cannot install
any third party local `.deb` packages any longer...
Deleting `~/.cache/sso/` and (re-)installing `oathlib` did not work for me. Any
help or update welcome.

[Bug 1584040] [NEW] Horizon wsgi can run in the wrong WSGIProcessGroup

2016-05-20 Thread Cedric Brandily
Public bug reported:

Horizon wsgi can run in the wrong WSGIProcessGroup when multiple
WSGIProcessGroup are defined. Typically with the 2 following
configurations enabled on apache2:

# /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/openstack-dashboard.conf
   WSGIScriptAlias /horizon
/usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi
   WSGIDaemonProcess horizon user=horizon group=horizon processes=3 threads=10
   WSGIProcessGroup horizon
   Alias /static /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/static/
   Alias /horizon/static
/usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/static/

 Order allow,deny
 Allow from all

# /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/wsgi.conf
   WSGIScriptAlias /mywsgi /usr/share/mywsgi/.. process-group=mywsgi
   WSGIDaemonProcess mywsgi user=mywsgi group=mywsgi processes=5 threads=10
   WSGIProcessGroup mywsgi

 Order allow,deny
 Allow from all

Nothing ensures that Horizon wsgi will run in "horizon"
WSGIProcessGroup.

To ensure it we should use:
   WSGIScriptAlias /horizon
/usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi
processes-group=horizon
instead of:
   WSGIScriptAlias /horizon
/usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi

It affects my Kilo openstack-dashboard on Trusty BUT should affect every
openstack-dashboard on every ubuntu

[Bug 1579560] [NEW] mix-up of cron job stderr outputs for simultaneous jobs when sent over postfix

2016-05-08 Thread Cedric Bhihe
Public bug reported:

Description already available at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/293431.

Use case: two (non-root) cron jobs trigger simultaneously (i.e. two different
crontab entries scheduled at the same time)

Context: Trusty 14.04.4 Desktop LTS
$ uname -r /// 3.16.0-50-generic
Cron version: 3.0pl1-124ubuntu2 (trusty)
Postfix version: 2.11.0-1 (trusty)

# cron entry #1
# `rsync' Mozilla FF's profile from RAM-DISK to SSD every 4 hrs.
# (FF's profile lives in RAM right from boot on.)
0 */4 * * * . $HOME/.profile; /opt/bin/fxram-sync profile

# cron entry #2
# Download an embedded picture from a specific web page every 2 hrs.
# Save with date-stamp.
0 */2 * * * . $HOME/.profile; /usr/bin/wget -O $HOME/Press-rev/Pix/$(/bin/date
+%Y%m%D%H%M%S).png -o $HOME/Downloads/Logs/wget.log --
https://some.domain.net/news/that-pix.png

Cron jobs and pertinent script(s) function perfectly well.
Postfix is configured and has be stable in last 18 months.

As soon as the 2 cron entries are enabled (to trigger simultaneously)
however, Cron Daemon starts sending mixed up stderr outputs (via
Postfix). See example below:

===
From: Cron Daemon <---@ >
Subject: Cron . $HOME/.profile; /usr/bin/wget -O
$HOME/Press-rev/Pix/$(/bin/date +%Y%m%D%H%M%S).png --
https://some.domain.net/news/that-pix.png
To: mailu...@domain.com

rsync: stat "/home/user/.mozilla/firefox/main/.cookies.sqlite-wal.YA5Dzv"
failed: No such file or directory (2)
rsync: rename "/home/user/.mozilla/firefox/main/.cookies.sqlite-wal.YA5Dzv"
-> "cookies.sqlite-wal": No such file or directory (2)
rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors)
(code 23) at main.c(1183) [sender=3.1.0]
===

In the example above one gets the header subject line from cron entry
#2, which otherwise produces no error, and in the message body the
stderr of cron entry #1 about .cookies.sqlite-wal not being found
(normal in my setup).

By delaying either one of the two cron entries by a few minutes, the email
snafu disappears completely and no stderr output report is mailed.

[Bug 1011257] Re: x-gvfs-show option doesn't work

2015-09-25 Thread Cedric Bhihe
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1012081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012081

Issue still exists in Trusty 14.04.3
util-linux version: 2.20.1-5 1ubuntu20.7
gnome-disk-utility 3.10.0
3.16.0-49-generic #65~14.04.1-Ubuntu x86_64

UDisks is pretty useless because of that.

Three long years have passed since bug submission

[Bug 1273201] Re: bridge_ignore_without_connections.patch breaks NM created bridge at boot

2015-07-14 Thread Cedric Schieli
+1

I've been running the backported fix (just dropped the patch) without a glitch
for several month.
If that helps, I've just created a PPA for this backport (currently
rebuilding): https://launchpad.net/~cschieli/+archive/ubuntu/bug1273201

[Bug 771896] Re: No way to save current session

2014-10-13 Thread Cedric Bhihe
Does this fix or another one (unknown to me) works for Trusty (14.04) Desktop ?
I am dying to see this implemented for all my desktop's windows.

Just imagine if you left work in the evening with your (real desktop) set for
the next day and on the morning of the day after, you find that everything as
been neatly stacked by the hosuekeeping staff. Horror. This is what happens
everyday with Ubuntu 14.04's Unity.
Cheers

[Bug 1331654] Re: [Dell Inspiron 1525] Cannot resume from suspend

2014-09-17 Thread Cedric Bhihe
[Running: 3.13.0-36-generic #63 on 64bit HP8510w]

@ Richard (#30), @ Carsten (#32) and @ Mark (#34),

Sorry to butt in in a forum, where I am the 1st to recognize that I am out of
my depth.
It's odd that the linux-image-3.13.0-35-generic should be declared bug free,
because
unless I am very mistaken, I am still affected by that bug under
3.13.0-36-generic #63 .
This is the reason I have mined the net and the Ubuntu bug databank to begin
with,
namely to determine whether to:
- keep using a buggy kernel that bomb everytime a suspend occurs and wait for
a new, bug-free, generic release
or
- revert to a pre-built kernel as suggested by Schacharr (#24).
Thanks.-cedric

[Bug 1242452] Re: xfce4-power-manager is not running by default with Lubuntu 13.10

2014-08-27 Thread Cedric M
I have a similar problem on Ubunto 14.04 LTS where I installed XFCE :
Launching the Power manager does nothing then after a few seconds a dialog
display:

Unable to get configuration information from xfce power manager: Did
not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did
not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the
reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Launching xfce4-power-manager-settings has the same result.
Launching sudo xfce4-power-manager-settings asks me Xfce4 Power Manager is
not running, do you want to launch it now?

[Bug 1332044] [NEW] iBus installed w/ Chinese Pinyin but [Invalid UTF-8] results on selection of characters

2014-06-19 Thread Cedric Bhihe
Public bug reported:

Platform: Linux xxx 3.13.0-27-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Thu May 15 18:06:16
UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

IBus: version 1.5.0 is correctly installed and running as part of TT 14.04
(LTS). (iBus Daemon runs in current session)
Fonts: ipafont-gothic and ipafont-mincho are installed, as evidenced by a
proper 'fc-list'
Japanese Anthy text entry: works well (direct trial), except in terminal window.
Chinese SunPinyin text entry: works well, except in terminal window, but not an
acceptable option for this user
Chinese Pinyin: fails -- ***

The whole gui seems to work perfectly well, setting of preferences,
English full width text entry and toggling between English and Chinese
Pinyin entry with the shift key.

Chinese Text entry (apparently) is well configured with my choice of Chinese
Pinyin. Pinyin entry actually works and iBus actually reacts well to nihao,
by proposing 你好 in return (this was pasted from a translation website, not
generated by this iBus !) .
However selecting that choice with the space bar, results invariably in
[Invalid UTF-8].
(even after multpiple reboots restarts of iBus)

Steps to reproduce the error:
  Unknown.
This is the result of a normal dual boot install.
More info:
If more info is required (hardware, etc), ask.

[Bug 1324897] [NEW] make-ssl-cert creates improper hash symlink to ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem

2014-05-30 Thread Cedric Gustin
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce :

   1. Generate new snakeoil SSL certificates with 'sudo make-ssl-cert
generate-default-snakeoil --force-overwrite'
   2. Get hash of new certificate with 'openssl x509 -hash -noout -in
/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem', say fd1e9cf4
   3. Check that fd1e9cf4.0 symlink to ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem was created in
/etc/ssl/certs

Problem :

   - fd1e9cf4 symlink is created instead of fd1e9cf4.0 (with .0 extension)
   - if you're lucky, hash has not changed and you still have the old
fd1e9cf4.0 symlink.
   - if you're unlucky (random seed has changed or you choose a different
keysize), hash will change, wrong symlink will be created and certification
validation will fail for example when using TLS with postfix :

[Bug 1324897] [NEW] make-ssl-cert creates improper hash symlink to ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem

2014-05-30 Thread Cedric Gustin
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce :

   1. Generate new snakeoil SSL certificates with 'sudo make-ssl-cert
generate-default-snakeoil --force-overwrite'
   2. Get hash of new certificate with 'openssl x509 -hash -noout -in
/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem', say fd1e9cf4
   3. Check that fd1e9cf4.0 symlink to ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem was created in
/etc/ssl/certs

Problem :

   - fd1e9cf4 symlink is created instead of fd1e9cf4.0 (with .0 extension)
   - if you're lucky, hash has not changed and you still have the old
fd1e9cf4.0 symlink.
   - if you're unlucky (random seed has changed or you choose a different
keysize), hash will change, wrong symlink will be created and certification
validation will fail for example when using TLS with postfix :

 postfix/smtpd[3828]: warning: TLS library problem:
error:14094418:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:tlsv1 alert unknown
ca:s3_pkt.c:1260:SSLalert number 48

[Bug 1273391] Re: webbrowser-app dependencies

2014-05-23 Thread Cedric
Well, when we consider that ,removing IE in Windows was impossible, was a bug,
then this is no different.
As we have already firefox installed on the system, why should we install
another webbrowser? Perhaps we could also add openoffice to the installation by
the way.
There are people who don't need or don't want webapps. For me removing a
webbrowser should not remove the whole unity desktop.
But never mind, i switched to debian anyway

[Bug 1315966] Re: banshee crashes on startup

2014-05-16 Thread Cedric Hicks
I have the same problem. Banshee hangs on startup. The output from the
terminal is similar so I won't copy and paste here unless requested. My
OS is as follows:

OS version: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic
KDE SC Version: 4.12.97
Hostname: Kubuntu

Banshee works fine on another PC running the Gnome desktop.

[Bug 1176536] Re: No tracing is done on Precise when using the linux-lts-raring kernel

2014-01-18 Thread Cedric Schieli
I'm now running the kernel from linux-image-generic-lts-saucy and the
issue is still present.

I've just reverted my patched ureadahead from my PPA to the stock one
(which is still the same version as when I've opened this bug), removed
the pack files from /var/lib/ureadahead and rebooted. No pack files got
created.

Reverting now to my patched version.
