[Bug 1878921] [NEW] USB 3 NVMe SSD dongle doesn't flip
Public bug reported: I have a AM8180 AMicro adapter. It is an adapter for an M.2 SSD NVMe disk to USB 3. It works fine on Windows, but on Ubuntu, when I plug it in, the drive shows for a second then disappears. If I try to do fdisk or gparted, it seems to lock something and I can't shutdown the laptop (it is stuck on the Disk Management Unmounting step. My info: 1) Release: Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Release:20.04 2) Package version: usb-modeswitch: Installed: 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3 Candidate: 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3 Version table: *** 2.5.2+repack0-2ubuntu3 500 500 http://th.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 3) What I expect to happen: I expect the drive to stay mounted 4) What happened instead: The disk is mounted then immediately unmount. Before I create the partitions in Windows, nothing mounted but the disk briefly appeared in the Disk Manager. Attached is my (filtered) syslog when I plug to the USB-C (notice the message advising to tell the developers about the model. Maybe it's just vendor info missing). I have modified 2 flags in /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf: - DisableSwitching=0 changed to 1 - #SetStorageDelay=4 changed to un-commented then restarted. [Bug 1711346] Re: gprolog toplevel fails on basic example (fixed upstream?)
Hello, Thanks for your comment, Ian, and for reminding me again of this bug. If it can help, I'm attaching a patch that lets the stable gprolog-1.4.4 compile with gcc 6. OTOH, I'm not sure that this is actually the right place to report bugs, because I suspect Ubuntu uses the Debian package more or less as-is. Correct me if I'm wrong. As it happens, the bug has been reported in Debian (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=861027), and has prevented gprolog to be included in recent stable releases, I guess. I submitted a follow-up to that bug, wait and see. [Bug 1636486] Re: External screen flickers (esp. in terminals) with xorg modesetting driver on Intel Broadwell
Hi, Doesn't looks like a duplicate of bug 1626935 to me! The flickering in my case happens: - only when something light happens in somewhere on the external screen (like entering a single character in a terminal window). When nothing happens on screen, or when using graphics-heavier apps (like a web browser), the screen doesn't flicker - the flickering is not similar to a triple buffering issue neither is related to the nautilus wallpaper -- it looks like a DisplayPort reset (ie, as if you disconnect/reconnect the monitor), with a 2-3s complete blackout of the monitor - this is specific to the modesetting driver. The xserver-xorg-video-intel driver is fine. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1626935 [yakkety] desktop is black and/or flickering after plugging in a second monitor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1636486 Title: External screen flickers (esp. in terminals) with xorg modesetting driver on Intel Broadwell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1636486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1636486] [NEW] External screen flickers (esp. in terminals) with xorg modesetting driver on Intel Broadwell
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm using a Dell XPS 13 (9343 // i7-5600U broadwell, 3200x1800 panel) laptop, directly attached to an external Dell P2715Q 4K (3840x2160 @60Hz) via DP. The 4K external screen is flickering when doing light activity -- easily reproduced when using an X terminal. Steps to reproduce: - open side by side Firefox (or Chrome) + a terminal and/or a gvim window on the external 4K screen - do some light web browsing - give focus to the X terminal or gvim // at this point, display is still perfectly steady - press a key to enter a single character // as soon as the key is pressed, external screen goes black for a few seconds. Laptop screen is not affected. - Wait for the screen to come back, then continue typing // screen generally stays ON, but sometimes continues to flicker a few times in next minute. This happens almost every time I switch to the terminal window and start typing. OS specs: - Ubuntu 16.10 running Unity, modesetting Xorg driver - kernel 4.8.0. Issue is still present with 4.9.0rc1. The intel driver (cp /usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-video-intel/xorg.conf /etc/X11) doesn't exhibit this issue. Typically with the 2 following configurations enabled on apache2: # /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/openstack-dashboard.conf WSGIScriptAlias /horizon /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi WSGIDaemonProcess horizon user=horizon group=horizon processes=3 threads=10 WSGIProcessGroup horizon Alias /static /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/static/ Alias /horizon/static /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/static/ Order allow, deny Allow from all # /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/wsgi.conf WSGIScriptAlias /mywsgi /usr/share/mywsgi/.. process-group=mywsgi WSGIDaemonProcess mywsgi user=mywsgi group=mywsgi processes=5 threads=10 WSGIProcessGroup mywsgi Order allow, deny Allow from all Nothing ensures that Horizon wsgi will run in "horizon" WSGIProcessGroup. To ensure it we should use: WSGIScriptAlias /horizon /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi processes-group=horizon instead of: WSGIScriptAlias /horizon /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/wsgi/django.wsgi It affects my Kilo openstack-dashboard on Trusty BUT should affect every openstack-dashboard on every ubuntu ** Affects: horizon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1584040 Title: Horizon wsgi can run in the wrong WSGIProcessGroup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/horizon/+bug/1584040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579560] [NEW] mix-up of cron job stderr outputs for simultaneous jobs when sent over postfix
Public bug reported: Description already available at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/293431. Use case: two (non-root) cron jobs trigger simultaneously (i.e. two different crontab entries scheduled at the same time) Context: Trusty 14.04.4 Desktop LTS $ uname -r /// 3.16.0-50-generic Cron version: 3.0pl1-124ubuntu2 (trusty) Postfix version: 2.11.0-1 (trusty) # cron entry #1 # `rsync' Mozilla FF's profile from RAM-DISK to SSD every 4 hrs. # (FF's profile lives in RAM right from boot on.) 0 */4 * * * . $HOME/.profile; /opt/bin/fxram-sync profile # cron entry #2 # Download an embedded picture from a specific web page every 2 hrs. # Save with date-stamp. 0 */2 * * * . $HOME/.profile; /usr/bin/wget -O $HOME/Press-rev/Pix/$(/bin/date +%Y%m%D%H%M%S).png -o $HOME/Downloads/Logs/wget.log -- https://some.domain.net/news/that-pix.png Cron jobs and pertinent script(s) function perfectly well. Postfix is configured and has be stable in last 18 months. As soon as the 2 cron entries are enabled (to trigger simultaneously) however, Cron Daemon starts sending mixed up stderr outputs (via Postfix). See example below: === From: Cron Daemon <---@ > Subject: Cron . $HOME/.profile; /usr/bin/wget -O $HOME/Press-rev/Pix/$(/bin/date +%Y%m%D%H%M%S).png -- https://some.domain.net/news/that-pix.png To: mailu...@domain.com rsync: stat "/home/user/.mozilla/firefox/main/.cookies.sqlite-wal.YA5Dzv" failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync: rename "/home/user/.mozilla/firefox/main/.cookies.sqlite-wal.YA5Dzv" -> "cookies.sqlite-wal": No such file or directory (2) rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1183) [sender=3.1.0] === In the example above one gets the header subject line from cron entry #2, which otherwise produces no error, and in the message body the stderr of cron entry #1 about .cookies.sqlite-wal not being found (normal in my setup). By delaying either one of the two cron entries by a few minutes, the email snafu disappears completely and no stderr output report is mailed. ___ COPY OF THE NON-SANITIZED Cron Daemon email provided as attachment. It's odd that the linux-image-3.13.0-35-generic should be declared bug free, because unless I am very mistaken, I am still affected by that bug under 3.13.0-36-generic #63 . This is the reason I have mined the net and the Ubuntu bug databank to begin with, namely to determine whether to: - keep using a buggy kernel that bomb everytime a suspend occurs and wait for a new, bug-free, generic release or - revert to a pre-built kernel as suggested by Schacharr (#24). (iBus Daemon runs in current session) Fonts: ipafont-gothic and ipafont-mincho are installed, as evidenced by a proper 'fc-list' Japanese Anthy text entry: works well (direct trial), except in terminal window. Chinese SunPinyin text entry: works well, except in terminal window, but not an acceptable option for this user Chinese Pinyin: fails -- *** The whole gui seems to work perfectly well, setting of preferences, English full width text entry and toggling between English and Chinese Pinyin entry with the shift key. Chinese Text entry (apparently) is well configured with my choice of Chinese Pinyin. Pinyin entry actually works and iBus actually reacts well to nihao, by proposing 你好 in return (this was pasted from a translation website, not generated by this iBus !) . However selecting that choice with the space bar, results invariably in [Invalid UTF-8]. (even after multpiple reboots restarts of iBus) Steps to reproduce the error: Unknown. This is the result of a normal dual boot install. More info: If more info is required (hardware, etc), ask. ** Affects: ibus-pinyin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1332044 Title: iBus installed w/ Chinese Pinyin but [Invalid UTF-8] results on selection of characters To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus-pinyin/+bug/1332044/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1273391] Re: webbrowser-app dependencies
Well, when we consider that ,removing IE in Windows was impossible, was a bug, then this is no different. As we have already firefox installed on the system, why should we install another webbrowser? Perhaps we could also add openoffice to the installation by the way. There are people who don't need or don't want webapps. For me removing a webbrowser should not remove the whole unity desktop. [Bug 1176536] Re: No tracing is done on Precise when using the linux-lts-raring kernel
I'm now running the kernel from linux-image-generic-lts-saucy and the issue is still present. I've just reverted my patched ureadahead from my PPA to the stock one (which is still the same version as when I've opened this bug), removed the pack files from /var/lib/ureadahead and rebooted. No pack files got created. Reverting now to my patched version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176536 Title: No tracing is done on Precise when using the linux-lts-raring kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ureadahead/+bug/1176536/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
