[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-02 Thread Charlie Page
Same issue, I've noticed something very strange. If the below lines are
commented out, the lag takes a few minutes to kick in (vs immediately when not
commented out).
edit /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules
comment out the 2 lines:
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon PreferredDisplayServer xorg"
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon WaylandEnable false"
As a side note, Wayland does not well work for me, however,
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf forces x11.
i.e.
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

[Bug 1877559] Re: LibreOffice Impress crash on apply a transition effect to a slide

2021-03-22 Thread Charlie Qiu
This bug also affects me.

It is probably this bug in Document Foundation's bugzilla:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131610

It is also probably related to bug #1911072

For me the bug is not stably reproducible. It sometimes occurs on the
first time I apply a transition, sometimes only after applying several
different transitions.

A backtrace log is attached.

[Bug 1819241] [NEW] arduino package is outdated

2019-03-08 Thread Charlie Stott
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04

$ apt-cache policy arduino
arduino:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:1.0.5+dfsg2-4.1
  Version table:
 2:1.0.5+dfsg2-4.1 500
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expected to be able to use the package in a familiar way without
having to update all the libraries and boards manually.

The package installed from the repo does not work with the installed
java and throws an exception.

java.lang.NullPointerException thrown while loading
gnu.io.RXTXCommDriver

While this can be worked around by installing Oracle Java 8, arduino
still cannot build projects made with later versions, due to missing
libraries and boards.

The latest version of arduino is tested and runs well on 18.xx

Is this package being maintained or does it need a new owner or
collaborator?

2018-08-24 Thread charlie
i'm running debian.

i'm using 686 (32 bit) and pae. what kernel are you running?

kernel 4.9.0-5 works and 4.9.0-8 is broken (didn't check others).

apt-get changelog linux-image-4.9.0-8-686-pae has lots of swap related
notes so they definitely borked something.

2018-08-23 Thread charlie
are you running under vmware? i am hitting this with vmware
workstation.

i'm getting this too. i'm running the latest debian kernel and it just
started happening.

i'm using a swap partition and have recreated it a few times / run
mkswap.

strace swapon -a shows that the syscall swapon('/dev/sdc1', 0) is
failing.

man 2 swapon says:

EINVAL
The file path exists, but refers neither to a regular file nor to a block
device; or, for swapon(), the indicated path does not contain a valid swap
signature or resides on an in-memory file system like tmpfs; or, for swapoff(),
path is not currently a swap area.

The workaround as suggested by Anders Hall is not very satisfactory
because the first thing that you want to do after creating a new
document is change the name. Previously, after creating the document you
were immediately in a text field changing the name. Using the
workaround, you have to select the document and select that you are
changing the name before entering the name. It is pointless extra work.

[Bug 1774915] Re: Video freezes and stutters when using totem (audio continues fine)

2018-06-06 Thread Charlie Bravo
If I am reading this commentary, and that in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clutter-1.0/+bug/1698270 it's
looking like uninstalling totem and changing to another player might be
the best answer, am I correct?

Thanks!

[Bug 1704660] Re: Xorg freeze

2018-02-16 Thread Charlie
Christopher, I am currently running Ubuntu 17.10 64 bit, Mate 1.18.0,
kernel 4.13.0-30-generic X86_64. I have not seen this problem for a long
time and it's so long ago now I'm afraid that I don't recall whether it
occurred after an update. I have attached current Xorg log.

I am also running Ubuntu 18.04 in Vbox and not seeing the issue.

Sorry I can't be of more help but can upload more current logs if of any
use.

I have raised another bug with Debian regarding user permissions in
sanlock that relates to this. This is not critical (or necessarily even
relevant) to this merge, but I thought I'd mention it in case the fix
can be pulled in at the same time: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

[Bug 1741986] [NEW] Please merge lvm2 from Debian unstable for lvmlockd and sanlock support

2018-01-08 Thread Charlie Smurthwaite
Public bug reported:

I am extremely interesting in utilizing the following stack to host
disks for KVM virtual machines:

* lvm2
* lvmlockd
* sanlock

I believe in order to use lvmlockd, the lvm2 sources will need to be
merged from Debian and the lvm2-lockd binary package will need to be
built. Please could I request that this merge happen prior to the
release of Beaver.

[Bug 1706476] Re: Mysterious shadow around window when check marking an option box inside of window

2018-01-07 Thread Charlie Luna
Daniel, I know it's been some time since we've commented on this and I
just wanted to come back and comment again about the status of all of
this. This graphical issue is still occurring and like you, it happens
when I resize the window with the cursor (click/hold/drag to desired
size).

I recently started Chromium to narrow down if it's a broad issue (such
as a CPU/GPU issue) or just program issue. Chromium doesn't exhibit this
odd behavior so I'm feeling confident that my theory that Firefox uses
code that doesn't quite agree with Wayland or my hardware could be the
root cause. I'm very confident that it'll be mitigated eventually.

[Bug 1734448] Re: firefox experiences heavy pixelation, stuttering screens and black boxes around windows

2018-01-07 Thread Charlie Luna
Just a quick update about firefox and thunderbird. No changes yet to
this peculiar behavior. I've started using chromium as my main browser
and chromium doesn't act like firefox does in regards to the heavy
pixelation and juttering/flickering. So this furthers my theory that
firefox and thunderbird use code that doesn't behave very well either
with the wayland display server or my hardware (I'm still using my
lenovo ideapad 310-15ABR).

So we'll see. I like chromium just as much as I like Firefox so no
worries from me.

[Bug 1734448] [NEW] firefox experiences heavy pixelation, stuttering screens and black boxes around windows

2017-11-25 Thread Charlie Luna
Public bug reported:

I've previously reported this bug for Ubuntu 17.10 and firefox and even
thunderbird are still doing what they did during the development and
eventual release of 17.10. this is annoying. It still creates the heavy
pixelation, scrambling, juttery screens when opening and during times
when i'm resizing windows and/or have other windows open that come from
firefox such as download dialogue window that the operating system is
presenting me with options about my downloads (open or save options) i
get this quick, black box to form around the window and disappear when I
click certain option boxes in those windows. I've tried this with
Chromium and nothing ever happens with that browser and I've had other
system windows open such as my file manager program and some other
programs running and tried everything to create the effects i see and
nothing. it only comes from mozilla products (firefox and thunderbird).
and even the tor version of firefox has the odd black box around it when
i resize it as well. it all seems to be just focused on firefox,
thunderbird and the tor firefox browser.

2017-10-06 Thread Charlie
Solved for me on both 32bit and 64bit boxes, well done on fast response!

But, on the 34bit box the side bar icon continues to throb even after TB
has been closed.

just revisiting this bug report to make an update. i still get the white
box where the wifi signal icon should be when i click the arrow in the
top right corner for the menu located there but it's very rare anymore.
it still seems like i've lost connection when it happens and i've got to
click on select network and then the box disappears and the wifi signal
icon reappears and my connection comes back.

2017-09-16 Thread Charlie Luna
This issue has occurred again. I think it might've been the result of
the last few updates from the software updater. Perhaps a regression?
This time I noticed it when I opened the download window from within
Firefox to view the status of a download and this odd box/shadow
happened.

[Bug 1714783] Re: *beta 1 release* screen scrambling upon startup.

2017-09-16 Thread Charlie Luna
The scrambling issue has repeated itself since my initial bug report. At
the time that it happened, I was only after booting was completed and I
couldn't see or do anything with my laptop until I suspended it with the
power button. On another occasion a few weeks ago, this same issue
occurred and I believe I did a shutdown by holding the power button
until it powered off and restarted with a successful restart at that
point.

And per your request, this is the output of that command.

[Bug 1706476] Re: "julyshakedown" mysterious shadow around window when check marking and option box inside of window.

2017-08-22 Thread Charlie Luna
Fortunately, one of the recent updates has seemingly fixed this issue.
I've tried several things like downloading some files and repeating the
above processes and that weird box hasn't happened yet so looks like
it's been triaged pretty well.

Public bug reported:

>From settings I open Printers and click on settings (gear icon) for my
printer which bring up a pop-up with printer details (name , location,
address, etc). There is no way to close this pop-up. Instead of a top
toolbar there is thin dark line. The pop-up cannot be moved.

Occurs using 17.10 default and Wayland.

[Bug 1706807] Re: scrambling/pixelation and jutter upon opening thunderbird

2017-08-09 Thread Charlie Luna
I finally managed to capture a very brief screen print of the
pixelation/scrambling of my screen upon opening thunderbird while
firefox is open. if you look at the bottom right hand side of the frame,
you can see a tiny amount of it. it's been worse than that but at least
you can get a sense of what I'm talking about.

2017-07-28 Thread Charlie Luna
ok, I'm must confess that I didn't download the daily build for just
ubuntu 17.10. that's what i've been testing lately and I downloaded the
ubuntu gnome daily build 17.10 (for today 2017-07-28) which is weird
because i didn't think anything was going to be separately for gnome
except change ubuntu desktop to gnome. oh well. i got the iso i wanted
and everything is back to normal, or as normal as can be for daily build
testing. lol

Public bug reported:

After installing today's daily build for Ubuntu Gnome 17.10, I chose the
adwaita-dark option for applications and any text box to input text
into, selection boxes and bookmarks are washed out upon mouse-over. So
why the change back to the previous Ubuntu Gnome designs instead of
Ubuntu Desktop?

[Bug 1542000] Re: plymouthd crashed with SIGSEGV in script_obj_deref_direct()

2017-07-28 Thread Charlie Luna
I just installed the new daily build posted as of today, 2017-07-28 and
I see there's a lot of changes in this build. So what happened to using
ubuntu desktop styling of windows? We're now back to using what Ubuntu
Gnome was using originally? Odd. I'm using Ubuntu Gnome 17.10 "Artful
Aardvark" and I never expected this sort of changes and especially
getting this crash again.

I really loved the styling that was in the daily build released on the
25th. oh well.

My hardware is a Lenovo Ideapad 310-15ABR laptop.

[Bug 1706476] Re: "julyshakedown" mysterious shadow around window when check marking and option box inside of window.

2017-07-27 Thread Charlie Luna
I opened all of the apps in settings and those are fine. No glitches at
all. The soft shadows those windows have around them are normal and
don't look like black boxes surrounding the windows that I showed you
and they're always there.

I've opened all of my programs/apps and nothing happens with them. They
all seem normal. Just the ones in the video that I've shown seem to be
the only ones causing this glitch.

[Bug 1706456] Re: "JulyShakedown" When I open firefox, I get some really weird scrambling of the screen.

2017-07-27 Thread Charlie Luna
here's a small video of me opening firefox. it's not pixelating like it
was but the odd black "shadow" is there. i did have a heavy
pixelation/scrambling of the screen earlier and then i started recording
and it hasn't happened yet.

2017-07-26 Thread Charlie Luna
oh, my bad. i didn't realize it was an X app. maybe i should read the
descriptions of the apps a bit better before i download them and try to
use them. lol but thank you for the information. i've since deleted it
and i'll just take a video with my phone and get that uploaded to this
bug comment thread.

[Bug 1706813] [NEW] *julyshakedown* gnome-shell RecordMyDesktop fails to open.

2017-07-26 Thread Charlie Luna
Public bug reported:

After downloading RecordMyDesktop from the gnome software center, it
fails to even open. And I got two crash reports back to back after
installing it. Then I removed the software, reinstalled to no avail, it
still doesn't open.

I attempted a restart upon no avail as well.
