[Bug 1881060] Re: Screen lock tiggers segfault

2020-05-28 Thread cue
Hi again,

I have to add now that it only worked once. The second time I manually
triggered the lock screen the same behavior went back. I also
deactivated the Workspace-Matrix extension and it did not help.

So there is more happening under the hood.

Sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 1881060] Re: Screen lock tiggers segfault

2020-05-28 Thread cue
Hi there,

the deactivation of the following extensions solved the issue at my
Ubuntu 20.4 system:

'workspace-indica...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'panel-...@berend.de.schouwer.gmail.com'

I have 14 further extensions including workspace-matrix.
They all work well.

May it help and thanx to you all!

cheers

After reboot indeed I was back on a low resolution and without Nvidia graphic
driver.
A complete uninstall via
sudo apt remove nvidia*
and afterwards installing the opensource 440 driver via additional driver fixed
the issue.

That was just like under Windows 95
- reboot into safe mode
- remove driver
- reboot
- install lates driver
- reboot

Please find an excerpt from my apt dist-upgrade command in #3.

I kind of got used to the cryptsetup ERROR bug on the bottom of the update
output.
Now there are more errors popping up during the attempt to only trying to keep
my ubuntu instance up to date by apt dist-upgrade.
The insecurity to even reboot my box now as I have to remain productive with it
reminds me back on the time in the 90s working with Windows.
A new strange feeling under Linux.

As always, thank you so much for doing work without getting paid with
money!

[Bug 1318542] Re: One keystroke goes double when using groups.

2019-10-25 Thread cue
I solved the issue like follows:

#1 download a kali linux osboxes.org vdi file. Its based on Debian and uses
Gnome just like the Ubuntu I used
#2 open a terminal and type: apt install termonator
#3 open Terminator and test the group broadcast feature

It works instantly and the workaround shouldn't steal you much of your
lifetime!

I also have that issue on 19.04. I was just happy to start working with
Terminator as I have to install stuff on 6 boxes.
I just wanted to type on group broadcast mode and everything got doubled.
I can remember a similar bug within a terminal in a game like RUST.
I cannot believe its still an issue.
What makes Ubuntu different here from other Debian based distros?
I don't get it!

2017-03-30 Thread cue
Is there a solution meanwhile?
I am using linux for production purposes only and windows for gaming only.
So printing is kind of a major issue when not working with my production OS of
choice.
I cannot install cups:

he following packages have unmet dependencies:
 cups : Depends: libcups2 (= 2.1.3-4) but 2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2 is to be installed
Depends: cups-core-drivers (>= 2.1.3-4)
Depends: cups-daemon (>= 2.1.3-4)
Recommends: printer-driver-gutenprint but it is not going to be
installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Could you just please fix it and seamlessly one day I start the computer
and another update would cleanup the stuff a past update destroyed in
the first place?

[Bug 991040] Re: COMRESET failed (errno=-16) on Intel SSD

2014-01-26 Thread cue
Christopher,

sorry for the late response.

Since the issue was on my work machine, I was regularly looking for a solution
and didn't miss a BIOS update.
It did not solve the issue.
In May 2013 I bought a Corsair Neutron CSSD-N240GBGTXB-BK and dd'ed the
complete image from the Intel device onto the Neutron and replaced the Intel
drive.

The looging looks better now:

Same here, but I got used to it by booting into recovery mode and then I choose

[Bug 994505] [NEW] Calendar (Google) not responding after a while and Evolution hangs

2012-05-04 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

When I start Evolution in the morning everything with the Google calendar thing
works just fine.
After a few hours Evolution works fine but when I click on the Calendar button
which would lead me to the
Calendar overview in which I have my default calendar referring to Google
calendar Evolution gets grey and hangs.

Now closing and restarting Evolution does not help, kill the evolution
main process does not help either.

As a workaround I could find out, that when I do a sudo kill -9 to the
/usr/lib/evolution/e-calendar-factory after I have killed the
evolution's main process and start evolution again everything works just
fine.

I could see some similar bug issues here in launchpad already but
decided to raise a new one as I think this current behavior is based on
successors of the former bug fixes.

I hope this helps and thank you for your work.

[Bug 991040] [NEW] COMRESET failed (errno=-16) on Intel SSD

2012-04-29 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

On my fresh Ubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Precision (Ubuntu certified right?) with a
premium
Inted Server SSD I am forced to make the following experience.

During boot I have to wait for 20 seconds due to the following scenario:

Excerpt of dmesg | grep ata:
[7.718628] ata1: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
[ 12.365148] ata1: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)

[ 22.369960] ata1: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)
[ 27.728248] ata1: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
[ 57.398789] ata1: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)

[ 57.718702] ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310)

After that the Intel SSD is connected in limited SATA1 mode to the
system. :-(

The same SSD works on the same machine just fine under windows 7,
thus I think one can exclude hardware issues here.

[Bug 940821] Re: SKYPE has been automatically removed from Ubuntu 12.04(amd64) during the update process and can't be reinstalled

2012-04-04 Thread cue
bakytn, thanx for your answer and this is precisely what I did as a
workaround in the beginning.

But I did not accept this workaround as a day to day practice.
Having many applications open on desktop and having to make a killall skype in
Terminal as a result of habitual closing skype's main window - in GNOME2 skype
remains in indicator bar and the desktop was cleaned up from another
application window - is a show stopper for me here. After that action one also
needs to reestablish all ongoing skype group-chat windows on each virtual
desktop etc...

As I use my laptop in business context as a working tool and as that
Skype functionality is a 'must have' INTEGRATED part in my daily
interaction, I went back to Ubuntu 10.04.

cheers,

[Bug 940821] Re: SKYPE has been automatically removed from Ubuntu 12.04(amd64) during the update process and can't be reinstalled

2012-04-04 Thread cue
I just found a pretty promising hint in web:
http://cysec.org/content/missing-libraries-skype-ubuntu-1204-lts-precise-pangolin

ldd /usr/bin/skype
linux-gate.so.1 = (0xf7796000)
libasound.so.2 = /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libasound.so.2 (0xf767d000)
libXv.so.1 = not found

so the simple solution might be as described in the link above a

sudo apt-get install libxv1:i386

So, for me its to late as I switched back to 10.04 already, but for
others this might work.

cheers,

[Bug 940821] Re: SKYPE has been automatically removed from Ubuntu 12.04(amd64) during the update process and can't be reinstalled

2012-03-20 Thread cue
Well installing the static version one can download from skype.com lets me
skype, BUT I have no Icon indicator anymore.
Thus as soon as I close the skype main window, skype remains running but is not
reachable via Front End any more. Open skype again leads into the mess of a
double login...

Would be cool to have it available in the canonical partner repositories
again.

[Bug 734508] Re: Brasero do not burn DVDs on ASUS K52JK

2011-12-09 Thread cue
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 345678 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345678

Hi nosferatu2011,

I cannot see why this bug shall be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345678.
The bug mentioned has been fixed already in 2009 and I have that issue since 2
Month on Ubuntu 10.4.
Before I was successfully burning on another drive. It only happens on the new
USB3 drive, while the new drive works fine on windows on the same mashine.

If launchpad isn't the right issue tracker to escalate this bug, please
let me know where I can do so.

all the best,
cue

[Bug 734508] Re: Brasero do not burn DVDs on ASUS K52JK

2011-11-01 Thread cue
Hi,

I have taken the time and material (an empty DVD-R ;)) to invest the
current issue as requested from Pedro on a brand new Asus BW-12D1S-U.

The command :'brasero --brasero-burn-debug --debug brasero-debug.txt'
didn't work and I assume that might be the reason for no response from
the initial poster here.

However the command: 'brasero --brasero-burn-debug brasero-debug.txt'
did work and I will attache three files:

- brasero-debug.txt
- brasero-session.log
- screenshot of UI state.

cheers,
cue

[Bug 381201] Re: snd-hda-intel powersave option and CLICK from speakers

2009-10-18 Thread cue
The pop noise disturbance is back again after suspend mode!
I don't have the pop noise when I trigger a sound by e.g. clicking on an menu
icon.
That belonged to the symptomatic in #20.
There is just a pop noise ones a Minute.

Here is my context:

uname -a
2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

excerpt lspci:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio

I observed one thing in the syslog:

I hope this information helps.

[Bug 381201] Re: snd-hda-intel powersave option and CLICK from speakers

2009-10-09 Thread cue
I can confirm that since I have exactly the same issue.
Since a few days I have also this pop-sound nearly every mInute or when I click
on items which would trigger a sound.

excerpt lspci:

One question:
Where do I disable powersaving which was suggested as a workaround here?

[Bug 192270] Re: npviewer.bin crashed with SIGSEGV in pthread_mutex_lock()

2009-10-09 Thread cue
I also had a lot of trouble with flash under Ubuntu amd64.
I used the flashplugin-nonfree packages etc.

Now participating 9.10 beta tests I decided to give adobes 64bit beta
version a try - it runs like a champ.

No interferences with sound, no crashes anymore, it simply does its job.

Try go for Its a pre-release already:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
and put the so file in the proper directory.

You must uninstal any former installed flash plugins otherwise it wont
work.

[Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock

2009-09-30 Thread cue
Same Problem here on a Lenovo T61p:

2.6.28-15-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 9 10:48:52 UTC 2009 x86_64
GNU/Linux

I installed latest nvidia driver via NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.36-pkg2.run:
NVIDIA Driver Version: 185.18.36

lspci excerpt:

Connection (rev 03)
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN
[Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)

--

Since Ubuntu 8.10 I get periodically hard locks with blinking caps lock during
work on a docking station.
I could isolate the appearance of the hard lock being in conjunction with a two
monitor setup (In docking mode) and strong wireless network activity.

When I work with two monitors - both (Thinkpad display and an external
LCD) 1920x1200 resolution - and listen to internet radio its like rusian
roulette and thus a show-stopper for productive work.

I use NVIDIA X Server Setting Application to conveniently detect and
apply a clone setup for the second display.

When I work on my thinkpad without external Monitor it works stable. I
cannot remember having any hard locks without having a multi monitor
setup.

Thus I also decided to try the latest nvidia driver, which improved the
2D appearance but did not solve the hard lock problems.

Please let me know how I could help to solve this annoying issue. In the
meantime I hope that it will be solved in Karmic.

all the best,
cue

[Bug 257264] Re: Rhythmbox cannot play audio after watching Flash video in Firefox

2009-08-23 Thread cue
I have exactly the same issues under Jaunty x86_64. Skype and Flashplayer still
seem to fight each other...
I tried with skype_static OSS, but whenever flash runs a movie (e.g. under
youtube) no sound for skype is available any more.
When I use skype non static and choose pulse-audio as oudi sources in skype
preferences the system is quite unstable see -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/417659

I would be so happy when this could be finalized solved.

I also discovered system freeze on my Thinkpad T61p since Ubuntu 9.4.
I already tried to report the behaviour in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/391085.
Maybe it was not clear enough, sorry for my poor English.

I could some how catch some error according to the kernel bug:

Jul 21 01:23:33 beyond-laptop kernel: [ 6676.977914] kernel BUG at
/build/buildd/linux-2.6.28/mm/slub.c:2743!

I attach the error.txt file which contains the whole log excerpt and the file
requested in #5.
The freezing happens when my Thinkpad is on the docking station.

I hope it helps to help me/us.

I connected a processor charging station via USB - FTDI USB Serial

I made report according to the AMD64 Java to serial already here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rxtx/+bug/361635. That is
solved on my side, since I can connect the device over Java to serial
bridge successfully.

But it still seems to be quit instable on the level below that.
It did run stable on former Ubuntu versions 8.10 AMD64 and 8.4 AMD64.

I hope that rings a bell to someone.

[Bug 391085] [NEW] Docking and Undocking hald ERROR

2009-06-23 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

System:
- Ubuntu 9.4 - the Jaunty Jackalope
- uname -a: Linux beyond-laptop 2.6.28-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 2
07:55:09 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Lenovo T61p

Problem description:

I use a docking station and discovered several errors:
All errors do appear suddenly and rare and without any hint to reproduce them
and only when I had a docking session.

#1 System seems to run in an endless loop, the processor was suddenly in 100%
usage and the system monitor did not show any responsable process.
#2 The system did response slow and sometimes it even does not response at all.
After a hard switch off (Power Button pressed for 5 seconds) The system came up
with forced file system check.
The automated file system check went thrue with exit code 4 and failed. It
asked to manually do the file system check. I did so 2 times now. After
answering all questions with YES the system went up again fine.
#3 During docking the system the batterie display disappeared and is just
replaced by power connector symbol. Having the mouse arrow on it it says
'Unable to get data...'

Each time I tried to find a hint in the system log file but now I did
find something (it is related to #3):

--- hald[3045]: segfault at 7fd0f13f9010 ip 7fd0f00f56a0 sp

[Bug 361635] Re: Java to serial does not work in Jaunty anymore

2009-05-14 Thread cue
@exacct:
Thank you, I checked it with 2.2pre2 from rxtx.org and it seems to work.
So it was not an Ubuntu issue like it appears now.

Should the issue be closed then?

Thank you for your help!

[Bug 361635] [NEW] Java to serial does not work in Jaunty anymore

2009-04-15 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

After attending the Jaunty-Beta procedure the communication from Java VM
to Serial does not work anymore.

I placed the corresponding jar and so file at the right place.

Here are some summarizing details:
--
Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (11.3-b02 mixed mode linux-amd64)
Problematic frame:
C [librxtxSerial.so+0x6462] read_byte_array+0x52
--

I will attach the whole log file to this issue.
The log-file's footer includes system overview details as well.

Thank you for your time and effort,

[Bug 258357] Re: [G86GL] Latest NVIDIA drivers: X hangs with blank screen after logout.

2009-02-22 Thread cue
I also confirm the bug.
Unfortunately not even the workaround with the 30s delay does work for me.
Setup:
Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 on a Thinkpad T61p
NVIDIA Driver Version: 177.82
Quadro FX 570M

I cannot use the logout feature as I have to force reboot afterwards!
I also cannot reboot X Server by using ctrl+alt+backspace, as I will not get
back to login again.

Brasero 0.8.2!
Luckily I have a multi boot system and just rebooted to 8.4, 32Bit.
Brasero there recognised the very same cd-r correctly.

But of cause that is a work-around and can not be seen as an appropriate
solution for a reasonable Ubuntu-Studio OS usage.

[Bug 287500] [NEW] Pipe to Bogofilter failed, error code: 3

2008-10-22 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I work under:
Ubuntu 8.10 amd64

During the attempt to move a bunch of emails to another folder via dragdrop an
alert per email appears in the status bar.
Clicking on one of them shows the message above...
The trash does not work yet very well.
Its like there is a problem with updating the folder after deletion.
The IMAP folder do not update at all.
I do restart evolution after email operation, since after startup the folder
seem to be updated.

Good Luck and thanx for you wonderful work!

[Bug 221760] [NEW] Firefox working on hard disk for 5 Minutes after start.

2008-04-25 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I use FF3 b05 under Hardy.

When I start Firefox it seems as fast as the start of FF2, but for the next 5
Minutes its acts on the harddisk so the HDD controller light is just on.
That slows down surfing through the web with the open browser and also slowing
down other open programs.

I could identify that FF3 is causing the disk usage by killing FF3
process test.

[Bug 215820] Re: loading hardware drivers [fail] linux kernel generic 2.6.24 - 16, hangs on boot

2008-04-11 Thread cue
I think that also belongs to Bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-
modules-2.6.24/+bug/212271

They are working on it and will probably solve your problem also.

[Bug 215945] [NEW] Compiz packages gone after latest hardy update including 2.6.24.16

2008-04-11 Thread cue
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I have an A31p Thinkpad Laptop.
Hardy went fine with linux 2.6.24.15 until a few minutes ago.
I made the latest partial update.

That update probably removed the complete compiz packages thus the 3D Desktop
is gone after a reboot.
But further every opened window opens with its windows title bar in an
unreachable area like x.pos=-25 or so...(hope I get understood here)
I cannot get the windows to move and thus I cannot close them once I opened
them.

To me it appears that something went wron with the last update even
though the final update dialog box said 'Update Successful'.

Hope that is a hint for somebody.
I write that on a different computer, but when needed I can provide some
command line outputs or other information.

best,
cue

[Bug 212271] Re: 2.6.24-15-generic: saa7134-alsa makes HAL to fail

2008-04-09 Thread cue
I can confirm that Bug as well.
Starting Hardy with 2.6.24.15 takes very long and after login a small dialog
box in the upper left corner says 'Interner Fehler' = internal error failed to
initialize HAL!
The Network is completely broken and the evolution-data-server-2.22 takes 90%
of cpu time all the time.

Starting Hardy with 2.6.22.14 kernel is fast and solid as usual.

Hope that helps a bit,

cheers.

[Bug 207269] Re: Numerous users reporting compiz no longer works hardy heron beta

2008-03-30 Thread cue
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 178953 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178953

I can confirm that.
I am running a Thinkpad A31p, hardware shoud be well known especially in Linux
communities.
I was running Ubuntu 7.10 and it was just fantastic. After an upgrade to 8.4
compiz does not work anymore:

compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Found laptop using radeon driver.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity
