The notebook is a Gateway m675. Since I have upgraded to jaunty I
haven't been able to use hibernate. I am now using Alpha 5 with the
same problem. It didn't worn me of a problem before the computer shut
off. After booting up and logging in to gnome, I see the crash

He didn't say he was using a package from Debian's repository. He said "Debian
package" which is what .deb files are for Ubuntu, Debian, etc.
The workaround I posted should be fine. It has worked for me on 9 of my

The mirrors aren't immediately updated. If you are using Synaptic, click
Settings, Repositories. Then set "Download from:" to "Main server".
click close, then Reload. The updates should now be available. I updated
mine and now have no problem.
