eg, I have two machines, one with a 4 core CPU/4GB RAM running Gnome
(machine A) and much smaller system single core/1GB RAM (machine B)

Same problem, the gnome-volume-control applet does not show any devices
but sound is still produced through HDMI (Radeon HD4290) with
applications like Totem and VLC

The worst part of this change is the fact that most mornings the
keyboard has lost its BT sync with Ubuntu, sometimes turning the
keyboard off and on works, but most time it does not and a red bluetooth
light appears on the keyboard meaning that the board cannot reconnect.

I finally tracked why my computer would pause for 2 minutes every so

And for my i386 machine, removing the gdm.conf-custom file does not work
as a work around. SO I have gdm removed from my rc directories and run
startx from the command line, which interestingly seems to cause a
problem with fast-user-switching running at 100%

After getting through most of the installation I found various
dependency problems with other packages.
Before starting a reinstall, I deleted most of the directories under
/var/lib. The only directories that I kept were cacti, gallery2, mysql.
I have finished reinstalling now without any

top of an existing hardy install.
The setup:
