Same issue with clean install of 11.04. Using Ubuntu Classic. Desktop is
fine, but any open window has dead spot described here. Clicking has no
affect in it.

I have this problem as well; Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10, Sound
Juicer 2.31.6 doesn't retrieve track listings for most CDs. Rhythmbox
does however correctly report track listing. Any ideas?

fast-forward or reverse on any song that is playing, ogg, flac, mp3.

Same problem with Xubuntu 7.04 on a Dell Dimension L433c (128MB Ram).
Editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf to 16 bit fixed the problem.
