After wasting way too many hours on this problem, the only result was that Openoffice stopped printing some text files (while others were no problem). In vain, I started deleting all config files, including all .openoffice- folders in the home dir. Hi, I do experience this problem regularly - when I send attachments from Evolution to Outlook, they have funny names in Outlook (as described by Peter above). However, I do not know how to reproduce the bug - it seems to me that it occurs in case of long file names, and it does not happen always. I have experienced problems on all past Kubuntu systems I've been using (currently 8.10). Maybe the problem is long file names and non-standard letters (in Peter's example, he used the DK/N ø)... ? Same problem under Feisty using a Samsung SH-S182D. Usually, it starts burning DVD's with 8x, then drops below 1x and finally stabilizes at exactly 4.0x. I've tried several types of DVD's and settings in K3B, no big change - setting speed to ignore makes it a bit faster, but not much. The max speed should be 16x. It does not work with an external harrdrive by Maxtor, though I can mount manually using pmount-hal /dev/sda1 . Public bug reported: Upgrading to 7.04 from 6.10 failed when installing linux-image- generic, the upgrade tool quit working. I don't know much about linux, but I guess something is wrong with a dependency. I then ran sudo apt-get -f install Afterwards, I ran sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get autoclean I googled that and it sounded reasonable to me. After reboot everything works fine. Please tell me, if I can find som relevant log data on my system, then I will post it here. It said that it could not install linux-image-generic, as far as I remember. The manager asked me, if I wanted to send a bug report. I said yes, but nothing happend (apparently, it tried to start Konqueror, but it never started running properly). The terminal, which was open, closed. The status line reported 60 % finished and preparing tor for installation. After that, nothing happened. I closed the manager despite warnings and proceeded as described above, after that I rebooted without problems.
