I can confirm this with the nvidia drivers. It happens when using opengl
(2.x and 3.x) compositing but not xrender compositing.

After 'Preparing to install Ubuntu' screen, raring
Since I upgraded my ubuntu install and it reverted to the nuveau driver,
my nvidia card regularly crashes due to overheating. More than once a
day. This is a serious issue. It sometimes takes out not only X by the
entire computer. Not to mention my electricity bills. Please fix.

I have RSSNOW in my panel and have told it to look at slashdot. It is
apparently fetching headlines from /. but the icon and the text RSSNOW
is over the top, obscuring the headlines.
Possible fixes:
1. Use icon+text when there is nothing else to display, otherwise
display

I think I may be seeing this (or something very similar). Tux racer
crashes out when you go from the flat graphics to the 3d stuff. The glx
gears app appears to work fine. Some haskell code I've got that binds
against the opengl libs renders garbage into the opengl frame. Other
opengl apps crash
The edit to xorg.conf works on my tablet - an HP Compaq 2710p. It would
be nice if this worked without my intervention though.

I have a clean installation of kubuntu on an HP 2710p with intel
integrated video.

When I start up kde, effects like transparency eat up a great deal of
CPU, and
I get the same error, with some but not all AVI files and with some but
not all CD images. I have a clean installation of hardy on intel. Right
now, it's preventing me from watching episode 19 of 20 in a season of
atlantis, which is annoying as it's the 2nd part of a 2 parter.
