[Bug 1909005] Re: Ubuntu does not resume (wake up) from suspend

2022-02-01 Thread Edoardo Fiocchi
Also affects my Dell Inspiron 5415, kernel version 5.13.0-28 (dual-booted with
Windows).
In my case, after selecting "Sleep", the screen turns off immediately and the
computer seems turned off. However, it will NOT wake up or reboot. In fact, I
have tried to press and hold the power button for several seconds, trying to
force-shutdown it, with no effects. Also tried the Alt+PrintScr+REISUB method
with no results.
The only way for me to shut it down is to physically remove the battery and
reinsert it.

[Bug 1931507] Re: rpcbind failing on 0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.2

2021-06-10 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
Anybody see it?

According to:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rpcbind/0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.3/+publishinghistory

It has been published, but doing `apt update` doesn't show it.

The:
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-security/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz
as of now still contains 0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.2 package.

Manual download deb package:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rpcbind/0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.1

On the right, you can pick which architecture you need.

@Marc, if you can publish the fix within the hour, that's fine. But if
not, please consider restoring previous version.

Thx for consideration.

[Bug 1931507] Re: rpcbind failing on 0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.2

2021-06-10 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
For short term solution, is it possible to restore the working
0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.1 package back to the repo, ASAP, until the fix
is in.

We have multiple system effected, manually update those with manually
downloaded deb package is very tedious task.

If we can at least fall back easily using `apt install
rpcbind=0.2.3-0.6ubuntu0.18.04.1` command, which is very easy to deploy
to multiple system.

Thx Marc for consideration.

I can confirmed we also suffer the exact same fault.

Even with NFS Service stopped, the rpcbind process crash simply by
issuing `rpcinfo -p localhost` command.

[Bug 1180649] Re: sbsigntool prints scary warning about invalid PE-COFF files which should be debug infos (file-aligned section .text extends beyond end of file; checksum areas are greater than image

2017-04-15 Thread Edoardo Barolo
Is it possible that this bug can affect motherboard efi boot/bios ?
Because when I use windows in my ASUS H97 plus all works fine.

But when I switch to ubuntu, often after an upgrade (signed image) the
computer locks itself not booting at all during BIOS UEFI BOOT !!Than I
have to remove bios battery and reset bios using jumper (and also
pressing boot button for 10 seconds) than after that I regain PC
control.

The very first time I had to remove all peripherals from motherboard...
This happens only with ubuntu and only after an upgrade... If use ubuntu
or Windows normally (no upgrading) I can go on for months without any
problems.. BUT if I upgrade ubuntu this not always, but often
happens

[Bug 1257352] Re: kvm hangs occasionally when switching out of the qemu console

2017-03-13 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
It seems the issue is sdl related to change in sdl window size. If I
started qemu and set the monitor (and serial & parallel) to the same VC
size, it works much better. Instead of hangs on a 2-3 switches, it may
hang after rapid switch of more than 10 times. Btw, it can hang in any
windows, i.e. display, monitor or serial/parallel.

So the workaround to ease this is, something like '-monitor vc:640x480
-serial vc:640x480'.

Still happened in qemu 2.5.0 on Ubuntu 16.04, it's random but you can
only switch between console, monitor, serial, parallel several times,

[Bug 1636619] [NEW] Ubuntu firmware hangs ASUS motherboard

2016-10-25 Thread Edoardo Barolo
Public bug reported:

I tried many times before reporting this so I'm quite sure this is a
really bad thing here..

First time happened after latest linux firmware update.
After reboot My ASUS H97 PLUS hags after boot BEEP !! It was not possible to
enter bios and also hardware rest was useless

The only thing useful was to remove BIOS BATTERY and reset all bios
settings to default.

I then regain access to my windows partition.
After that I give another attempt. I reentered bios and select UBUNTU Option on
UEFI bios The one with 98733 kb. Result ? Another TOTAL HANG !! And another
battery removal was required.

I tried to upgrade my motherboard BIOS but the result was the same for a third
attempt...
Now I cannot access my linux any more... I saw other ubuntu bios boot options
registered on UEFI , mybe I'll try the old ones.. I'm not a UEFI expert so I
don't know how to delete the entry or to restore them...Is ASUS providing with
a UEFI console ? I don't know...

I'm quite sure this happened after the latest linux firmware upgrade

Can someone help me ?

[Bug 1220146] Re: Need support for new Ralink Wifi card - Mediatek 7630 [14c3:7630]

2014-08-21 Thread Edoardo Rossi
Thank you so much for your incredible help.

On this Asus X552C and Network controller: MEDIATEK Corp. MT7630e
802.11bgn Wireless Network Adapter the #125 and #154 solved the problem.

But...

I'm noticing a strange and continuos spike in the CPU activity:

PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
  21 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 100.0 0.0 16:10.98 ksoftirqd/1

'/1' depends on the CPU used obviously.
If I disable the WiFi connection, everything comes back to normal.

I hope this can be useful... any suggestion?

Re: [Bug 1069451] Re: Launcher and global menu bar get invisible after a program is minimized from full screen mode

2012-12-29 Thread Edoardo Peri
Hi, the delay on the update can be related to the settings.
My system is setup to receive the updates even if they are not yet
considered stable.
Kind Regards,
Edoardo.

After the update, that was somehow delayed for me, I now get the same
behaviour as you, Edoardo. A workaround that works for some purposes is
to have the full screen application opened in a separate workspace -
then you can switch from it with Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys.

Being able to use full screen applications in a single workspace would
be nice, though. I hope this bug will eventually be taken care of.

 Title:
Launcher and global menu bar get invisible after a program is
   minimized from full screen mode

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 12.10. I first experienced this bug when minimizing
the fullscreen writing app Focuswriter some time before I switched
(via fresh install) from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 - probably caused by a
an automatically updated change to 12.04 that persist in 12.10. Since
then I've learned that the same things happens when I minimize any
other program that is running fullscreen - I've tried with
Focuswriter, LibreOfiice Writer, Firefox and Lyx, and the bug is
consistent - and I've found this (unreported) mention of the same bug
   with Vitualbox:
   http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-2062165.html.

   What I expect to happen:
When I minimize a program from full-screen I expect seeing my desktop,
the launcher and the global menu bar.

   What happens instead:
When one of the mentioned programs is minimized after it has been in
full-screen mode the launcher and the global menu bar are invisible.
Instead of seeing them I just see their outline the color of my desktop
background where it should have been. The launcher and global menu become
visible if I click these areas once.

2012-12-20 Thread Edoardo Peri
Hi,

after the last software update (compiz and openGL) the behaviour has
changed. Now when I minimize the full-screen application I get back
again a full-screen of the application and if I click on it I return
correctly to the desktop.

Better than before but the bug is still present.

Re: [Bug 1069451] Re: Launcher and global menu bar get invisible after a program is minimized from full screen mode

2012-12-20 Thread Edoardo Peri
Hi,

the bug is still present but with the latest automatic updates from
Canonical of the Compiz component I received yesterday the behaviour has
slightly changed.

Now when I minimize a full-screen application, instead of returning to
the desktop with menu bar and unity bar missing I receive back the same
full-screen application.

I still have to click on the full-screen application to return to the
desktop.

So at the end I still have to do another click to have the proper
behaviour, the difference is that I do it on the full-screen instead of
the missing menubar.

Regards,
Edoardo.

2012-11-08 Thread Edoardo Peri
Hi,

same behaviour happens to me in virtualbox, remmina (RDP) and other
applications.

When I minimize the application, unity launcher and menu bar disappear.
I can let them reappear only clicking on the menu bar or on the unity
launcher.

It happened both on ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10.

If I close the full screen application it doesn't happen, only if I
minimize it.

[Bug 825593] Re: cntlm does not work at reboot

2011-08-15 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
Hi Stefano,

I just want to give you an update on my trouble shooting effort today.

I found out that the execution of '/etc/network/if-up.d/' is not
reliable all the time. From one boot to another boot I get different
result.

Practically I have 3 interfaces, lo, eth00, and eth10.

On some boot, I get '/etc/network/if-up.d/' 3x on each those interfaces.
On other boot, I only get 1x. Most of the boot, I get 2x on eth00
eth10 (some times the order is the other way around). Obviously at boot
ubuntu may combine the execution of '/etc/network/if-up.d/' if multiple
network interface is up very close.

Now, when I have multiple execution of '/etc/network/if-up.d/', I can
see that some times I have race condition (if the '/etc/network/if-
up.d/cntlm' are executed too close with each other) that the start-stop-
daemon fail to detect the start of the previous instance. Giving me 2
instances of cntlm trying to start at the same time.

Due to all this process happens pretty much in parallel, I even have the
following sequence:
- eth00 up event executes '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm'
- eth10 up event executes '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm'
- '/etc/init.d/cntlm' is executed via '/etc/rc2.d/S20cntlm'
- '/etc/init.d/cntlm' is executed by '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm' due to eth00
is up
This some times cause the 2nd instance of cntlm to be started if it's
executed too close
  with the above.
- '/etc/init.d/cntlm' is executed by '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm' due to eth10
is up

So I ends up putting the following in my '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm':
# Check whether cntlm is enabled in this runlevel, if so restart it.
level=unknown
while [ $level = unknown ]; do
level=`runlevel | cut -d  -f2`
done
if [ -e /etc/rc${level}.d/S??cntlm -a $IFACE != lo ]; then
logger -f /var/log/syslog -t $IFACE Restarting cntlm in $(($$ % 10)) s.
sleep $(($$ % 10))
#   invoke-rc.d --quiet cntlm restart /dev/null 21 || true
fi

And by putting random sleep, I managed to avoid race condition at most
of the time.

But, the cntlm STILL failed in forwarding the request from the client.
Even I take away the '/etc/network/if-up.d/cntlm', I still get exact
same result on both Config 1 2.

After putting '-v' when I start the cntlm in '/etc/init.d/cntlm', I get extra
prints and get the following failure:
direct_request() -  host_connect()  so_resolv().
with error code that the destination is temporarily not available.

Now the strange thing is I always managed to ping the destination server
by name when the cntlm error situation occurs. Since the so_resolve() is
only a wrapper to gethostbyname(), then it should work.

Putting delay upto 10 sec. inside '/etc/init.d/cntlm' just before
calling start-stop-daemon in start case, didn't help. I literally
*always* have to restart the cntlm manually to make it work.

Any thought???

Cheers //Edo

[Bug 825593] Re: cntlm does not work at reboot

2011-08-14 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
Oke, I will modify my '/etc/network/if-up.d/' script.

I have asked the David Kubicek to fork a process to monitor the ifup
event and act accordingly. Since I'm a newbie in linux, I don't have
experience in linux programing :(.

In regards with my issue in Config 2, I check the source code of cntlm
0.91rc6 and can't find the part that cntlm try to contact the parent
proxy. I might missed it, do you mind point me to it?

My parent proxy is in 192.168.241.1:8081, i.e. on eth10, it's not
available when the cntlm is started due to eth00 is up. But since I
configure it as standalone proxy, this parent proxy as far as I can tell
is never used nor contacted. The proxy_connect() is called inside
forward_request() and socks5_thread(), since I configure cntlm as
standalone proxy no socks5 proxy, the proxy_connect() should never be
called.

If I remember correctly, even when I restart cntlm manually (after all
my interfaces are up) I don't see any attempt to contact the parent
proxy from the eth10 IP trace. I will verify again on Mon. to make sure
this is the case.

[Bug 825593] Re: cntlm does not work at reboot

2011-08-13 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
Hi Stefano,

Thank you so much for your quick response :).

I have just installed the cntlm 0.91rc6 a couple of days ago via
aptitude, so it should have your fix in '/etc/network/if-up.d/' (I will
verify this on Mon. when I get back to the office). But from the boot
log, I do notice the 2nd round print about ACLs are being added. It kind
of puzzled me before, but after I read your fix, I understand that this
got to be the 2nd attempt to start cntlm when the network interface is
finally up.

This is my situation. I have 2 network interface, eth00 (192.168.1.1)
and eth10(192.168.241.1 and a bunch of other secondaries IPs). Based on
the my cntlm config 1 (that I described in my original posting), I get
error print on the boot log stating that the last 'Listen' interface is
not available. So I guess it takes longer to bring up eth10 as it has
several IPs bound to it. So when eth00 is up and invokes '/etc/network
/if-up.d/', the eth10 is not ready when cntlm is started. And when
finally eth10 is up, the 2nd invocation of '/etc/network/if-up.d/' won't
do anything to cntlm as start-stop-daemon simply quits as cntlm has been
started. The 'netstat -an | grep LISTEN' seems to confirm this
situation.

So I got into thinking, may be it's better to do 'restart' rather than
'start' in '/etc/network/if-up.d/'. With this, and ifup event will
restart cntlm, so when some body do ifdown then ifup manually, the
cntlm is restarted and if the cntlm listen to the newly up interface, it
will now listen properly. Of course there is a possible drawback, that
if the cntlm does not listen to this newly up interface, then it may be
restarted for nothing.

Btw, I have just learn linux (ubuntu) a few months back, so there might
be some stuff I mentioned above is completely stupid or non-sense :(.

Do you know what happen with cntlm (or any process that open a socket
for listening) if the listened interface suffers link failure? Will the
socket connection is closed? Hence when the interface recovers later on,
it will not listen to it any longer?

Will '/etc/network/if-up.d/' executed when the link recovers? Or it will
only be executed on manual ifup?

If my suggestion using 'restart' instead of 'start' is acceptable, will you be
kind propose the change? Also please incorporate:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailaid=3206995group_id=197861atid=963162
changes that actually check the '/etc/rcx.d/', whether the cntlm is supposed
to be started at the current runlevel or not.

OK, now about the Config 2 of my cntlm. This one I still get puzzled :(.
I configured cntlm as gateway, hence it open a socket connection
'0.0.0.0:8081'. So during the '/etc/network/if-up.d/' invocation when
eth00 is up, managed to start cntlm correctly (at least based on
'netstat -an | grep LISTEN'). So when the eth10 is up, even though the
cntlm is not restart, it should still work as the linux network driver
will forward the incoming packet to cntlm as the socket was opened with
'0.0.0.0' address. And the fact that I got HTTP 502 result from cntlm,
this confirms that cntlm does receive the HTTP GET coming from eth10.
Btw, I also configure cntlm as standalone proxy (NoProxy *), so this
request will result direct_request() in direct.c is called. And the only
place in direct.c that generates HTTP 502 is if the host_connect() call
failed. And I simply can't figure it out why on earth at this point the
host_connect() fails. My IP trace on eth10 shows that cntlm doesn't even
try to open TCP connection (SYN) to the requested server at all. A
simple manual restart of cntlm fix this. Do you have any thought on this
matter?

Btw, I also can't find where cntlm try to check the connectivity to it's
parent proxy at startup, do you mind point me to it?

Again, many thanks for your kind response and I hope you have time to
response to my lengthy questions :).

Cheers //Edo

[Bug 825593] [NEW] cntlm does not work at reboot

2011-08-12 Thread Edoardo Tirtarahardja
Public bug reported:

I have just installed cntlm 0.91rc6 on ubuntu server 10.10.

On every reboot, cntlm does not work properly.

Config 1: I put 3 Listen lines in cntlm.conf to only bind 3 interfaces.
On the boot log, cntlm complaints that 'Cannot bind port ', with the first 2
reason are set to the port is used and the last reason is set to interface not
available. Then I got 'No proxy service ports were successfully opened'
message, but a few lines later it stated that the cntlm daemon has been started
sucessfully.
Later on if I did 'netstat -an | grep LISTEN', I only see the first 2 interface
bound to cntlm.
Manually restart the service works every time.

Config 2: Instead I set the 'Gatewayl' parameter to 'yes'.
On the boot log, cntlm is no longer complaint that it can't bind the port,
however I still see 'No proxy service ports were successfully opened' message
followed by successful daemon start.
On 'netstat -an | grep LISTEN', I got cntlm listening to '0.0.0.0:8081',
however if I use the proxy, cntlm *always* return that cntlm can't forward the
request. From the IP trace of the interface, I can see cntlm does not even try
to open *any* request connection, just immediately return the browser client
request with the above error message.
Manually restart the service works every time.

Does the cntlm service started too early on reboot???

@Alessio

I'm very sorry, but my Ubuntu had a panic message at startup and I was not
able to restart it. No more.
Thus I was forced to reinstall Ubuntu.
Now I can't provide you the info requested.

Re: [Bug 709641] Re: package nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-02-01 Thread Edoardo Antonini
Oh, my mistake I suppose. I mistakenly thought that running the system from
the Ubuntu USB key was like running an installed system on a key and not in
live mode.
I thought that running from a USB key, unlike what happens when
you run live from a CD-ROM, you could save changes to your environment.

2011/1/30 Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com

Sorry but you can't install proprietary graphics drivers on a live
system as that would involve updating the initramfs and rebooting, which
you can't do unless you install the system.

My suggestion is to install Ubuntu on a usb device (such as a usb hard
disk or a usb key that is big enough) and then install the driver there.
This way you should be able to use the Nvidia driver from the live
 system.

I can confirm that this bug still exists in Jaunty 64bit.

The above report fully and exactly represents what happens to my Xorg
when I try to switch to VT1-6 on the same hardware.

thx

[Bug 220036] Re: Multi-Pointer X Window Server

2008-09-10 Thread Edoardo Batini
Right.

X.Org was slated to receive MPX support, but Multi-Pointer X ended up
being postponed to the next release. Multi-Pointer X has since merged to
master but will not be present until X Server 1.6. However, if Xi2 and
Xkb2 aren't completed and stabilized in time, Keith Packard has
mentioned he will disable Multi-Pointer X at build-time for X Server 1.6
and hold it off for a X Server 1.7 feature.

[Bug 214269] [NEW] Nick changing in jabber chatrooms behaves weirdly

2008-04-08 Thread Edoardo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu release: 7.10
Package: pidgin
Pidgin version: 1:2.2.1-1ubuntu4.1
Protocol: Jabber (XMPP)

The scene is:
- I've created and joined a new chatroom
- I've invited a contact in it and he got inside

Now, when I attempt to change my nick using the /nick command, I got my
nick changed twice: first I got the nick I typed and then it switches
back to the old one (my user name, the portion before the @ of my
contact), like this:

miriam1904: /nick miriam
* miriam1904 is now known as miriam
* miriam is now known as miriam1904

This is what happens whenever I type /nick miriam. I tried several
times. Then, I tried with another nick, and this time I got:

miriam1904: /nick miri
* miriam1904 is now known as miri
* miri is now known as miriam1904
* miriam1904 is now known as miriam

My nick got changed first in miri, then it got changed back in my user
name (just like before) and then it got changed again in miriam, the
old nick I was trying to get!

I don't know if this cares: the chatroom was on a foreing server (i.e.
not the one in wich I registered my contact).

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Wed Apr 9 00:02:02 2008
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.10
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Uname: Linux shumenta 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 07:42:25 UTC 2008

[Bug 93604] Re: gparted is missing in iso image for feisty

2007-04-04 Thread edoardo
still missing in ubuntudaily-live-20070404

while ubuntu isn't a full rescue disk, having gparted goes a long way towards
that.
I too would like to have the livecd usable as a non-ultimate rescue system,
when no internet connection is available.

[Bug 84238] [feisty] kernel 2.6.17 in feisty repository cannot boot

2007-02-09 Thread edoardo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

On Feisty, I installed the kernel 2.6.17 that is in the repository through
synaptic
the installation had warnings
W: udev hook script requires at least kernel version 2.6.19
W: not generating requested initramfs for kernel 2.6.17-10-generic
and left an initrd image 0 bytes long

So, I ran mkinitrd manually that generated an initrd image
and I added my grub 2.6.17 entry manually,
but boot failed
umount: devfs : not mounted
unknown filesystem type devfs
...
kernel panic

I posted on the user forum and the suggestion is that udev and libvolumeid are
not compatible
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=357144
but i see no workaround

this is similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/84094
but the platform is not AMD64, just an intel Pentium2

[Bug 84018] Re: [feisty] failure of MATSHITACD-R CW-7502 using ACARD AEC-671X PCI Ultra/W SCSI-2/3 Host Adapter

2007-02-09 Thread edoardo
i built a 2.6.20 VANILLA kernel from kernel.org
using the instructions here http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_ubuntu
and the behavior in the vanilla kernel is just as in ubuntu's patched version.

can anyone help me pushing this to the kernel developers ?

[Bug 84238] Re: [feisty] kernel 2.6.17 in feisty repository cannot boot

2007-02-09 Thread edoardo
ok, i see i must not use mkinitrd, but mkinitramfs does not generate an initrd
image for 2.6.17.
you said you removed the source package. I installed the binary image. and the
initrd image does not get created for it by mkinitramfs

so is feisty ONLY going to work with 2.6.20+ and also the 2.6.17 binaries
should go ?
I currently have a prob with 2.6.20 that i hope will get fixed in the kernel
tree
