[Bug 912941] Re: Broadcom 4331 is not supported

2013-01-22 Thread edvar
I can confirm I cannot run wireless N with the patch. Without the patch,
wireless doesn't work at all. I'm running ubuntu 12.10 on a macmini
2012.

Also created a thread with some details:

[Bug 997075] Re: XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer

2012-07-20 Thread edvar
I haven't used Unity for months because of that. My fix so far is using
Gnome Shell with a couple of useful extensions and a different theme. I
got used to it and haven't had any crash since. It's unfortunate because
I really liked Unity but now I'm a Gnome 3 convert... Haven't looked
back

[Bug 997075] [NEW] XOrg uses 100% CPU after upgrade to 12.04 and freezes computer

2012-05-09 Thread edvar
Public bug reported:

You can read a little bit about my quest to get my computer back to
normal on here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11920008#post11920008

After upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 Unity 3D was unusable and slow. I
managed to get it fixed by deleting ~/.config however after a couple of
minutes my computer freezes and the only way to get it back is using the
reset button. I can SSH from another computer and see Xorg is taking
100% of the CPU.

It seems Gnome Shell is not affected. The problem only happens in Unity
3D.

[Bug 530605] Re: gvfs-mount doesn't always work. gvfsd-smb starts using 100% cpu.

2011-05-24 Thread edvar
I had to uninstall Ubuntu One and all associated packages so my CPU Utilization
went back to normal.
I reinstalled Ubuntu One and notice the package desktopcouch-ubuntuone wasn't
installed this time. I suspect it was the one causing the high utilization.

[Bug 759997] Re: ath5k card disconnects after a while

2011-05-17 Thread edvar
I'm having the same problem however I'm using an Atheros ath9 wireless
card. It works for a day and then next day I lose connectivity. The wifi
card continues loaded with a static IP Address assigned to it but I
cannot connect to anything.

I tried to whitelist ath_pci on /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf
but the problem still persists. Also yesterday I enabled the ubuntu
backports on my software sources but so far no kernel updates.

I live in Australia and the domain is correct as far as the syslog
messages are concerned:

[Bug 552561] Re: desktopcouch-service hangs with 100% cpu

2011-05-17 Thread edvar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 530605 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530605

This is not related to samba as I have no connectivity issues on my
samba share. The only connectivity issue I'm having is the one listed
here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/759997 and
it's related to my atheros wirlesss card.

I never had this problem with lucid or maverick however on natty I get
this shortly after login:

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread edvar
I upgraded to Lucid last weekend and now X Forwarding is not working
again:

$ echo $DISPLAY
$ cat /etc/default/ssh |grep OPTS
SSHD_OPTS=-4
$ cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config |grep Forward
X11Forwarding yes

Any ideas?

I can confirm adding AddressFamily inet to sshd_config fixed the
problem for me after a SSH restart:

$ echo $DISPLAY
localhost:10.0

Yes, I'm using Putty from a Windows box and the same happens on the Terminal
app on Mac OS X.
The version of Putty I'm using is 0.60. In regards to SSH on my Karmic box:

$ dpkg -l |grep openssh
ii  openssh-client 1:5.1p1-6ubuntu2
   secure shell client, an rlogin/rsh/rcp repla
ii  openssh-server 1:5.1p1-6ubuntu2
   secure shell server, an rshd replacement

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2009-11-04 Thread edvar
I'm having the exact same problem after upgrading to Karmic. I've used
Ubuntu since Feisty and this is the first time I ever experienced
problems with X forwarding on SSH. It worked fine on Jaunty. Basically
I'm experiencing the same issues as reported:

$ env | grep DISPLAY
$ echo $DISPLAY
$ xclock
Error: Can't open display:

$ tail /var/log/auth.log

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2009-11-04 Thread edvar
Forgot to mention the loopback address is properly configured on my box:

$ ifconfig lo
loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
  RX packets:139234 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:139234 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:6975042 (6.9 MB)  TX bytes:6975042 (6.9 MB)

I found some links on Google related to the Failed to allocate
internet-domain X11 display socket error on Solaris machines and they
were all related to missing IP configuration on the loopbak interface.
So clearly this is not the cause here...
