Ok Chris, this is solved for me, I have install the hunspell Fr
dictionary and it runs with writer
Could you help for another topic, namely it seem that I should install a
new driver in order to upgrade the installed NVIDIA 180.44 driver on my
laptop (tosh P200, GE Force go 7600)
I then download this new driver (NVDIA Linux-x86-180.44-pkg1.run) but sh
does not find it ...
Is it the good drivre and if so how to install it ?
Thanks again

You can check in the synaptic package manager in
 System-Administration-Synaptic Package Manager.

Also in OpenOffice.org you can check to see if the language you are
using has a spellchecker installed by going to Tools-Options-Language
Settings-Languages-Default Languages for Documents. If the language
selected has an icon that shows ABC and a checkmark then the dictionary
for that language is installed and detected by OpenOffice.org
