[Bug 1242891] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Playback problem LED problem
Public bug reported: Possibly important: using raring 13.04. issue seen on hp DV6 7000 series laptop which had beats audio (4 channels i think. it has a subwoofer. info from hp is very unclear). I am using the alsa daily package: oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms which builds a new snd-hda-intel kernel module every so often. with the snd-hda-intel kernel module provided by the normal raring ubuntu repo, the mute/sound led works correctly, but the channels that the hardware has are not correctly detected, and headphones do not work/mute speakers. My laptop has multiple speaker channels, and sub/LFE. With the normal raring kernel module, there is no way to use all channels even with hda-jack-retask, and sadly sound only comes from the weakest of the 4 channels so is very disappointing. I have the alsa daily package ppa of oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms set in my software sources, so I whenever they release a new build I install it automatically. With the package from this PPA there are more channels seen in alsamixer, although i still need to use hda-jack-retask to get sound from them all. Crucially, the headphones jack works with the module built from this PPA, and automutes the speakers when headphones are plugged in. I raise this bug because non-technical users would not have been able to get acceptable sound from this laptop using ubuntu, which is an undesirable situation. however, the led now always indicates red for muted when it should be white for unmuted. pressing the mute button toggles the mute function correctly in pulse/gnome, but the LED always indicates muted. Essentially, the snd-hda-intel module from this PPA is usable with a technical modification, but the led indicator does not function correctly, although it did before. please let me know if more information is needed, or if you need my to perform any tests. kind regards ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-32.47-generic 3.8.13.10 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-32-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: luke 2367 F pulseaudio Date: Mon Oct 21 21:31:28 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-01 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 13.04 Raring Ringtail - Release amd64 (20130424) MarkForUpload: True PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver Symptom: audio Symptom_AlsaPlaybackTest: ALSA playback test through plughw:PCH successful Symptom_Card: Built-in Audio - HDA Intel PCH Symptom_PulsePlaybackTest: PulseAudio playback test successful Symptom_Type: Only some of outputs are working Title: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Playback problem UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 04/22/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde dmi.bios.version: F.27 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 181B dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.board.version: 52.24 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsyde:bvrF.27:bd04/22/2013:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPENVYdv6NotebookPC:pvr088A1230591620100:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn181B:rvr52.24:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC dmi.product.version: 088A1230591620100 dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug gnome3-ppa raring third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242891 Title: [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Playback problem LED problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1242891/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 810670] [NEW] ansm tray icon is just a vertical line
Public bug reported: When amsn runs, the main tray icon is sometimes a vertical line one pixel wide. Because of its colour, i can only see it if i make the panel bar transparent. It happens irrespective of whether the panel is transparent when amsn is started. This happens occasionally to the main amsn icon, but the amsn mail notification icon is almost always just a thin vertical line one pixel wide. amsn or hotmail still appears if i carefully click the thin line. at first i couldn't figure out what was wrong with my settings, but after making the panel transparent i can see the vertical line that signifies amsn icons should be there. it is as if the icons have been compressed to one pixel. This has been happening to me on jaunty, intrepid and lucid. i have not tried maverick or natty yet. I thought this could be related to the fact that i hadn't done a fresh install since jaunty, only upgraded. however, i did a clean install (for other reasons), which is what i'm using now, and the problem is the same as ever. i have also tried using metacity instead of the default compiz, but this has no effect on the problem. occurrence of this bug is seemingly random, but more often than not. lsb_release -rd: Description:Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Release:10.04 i will be glad to provide any further pertinent information, or try any reasonable experiments to help solve this. no other IM application available on ubuntu provides the level of msn functionality as amsn, so an alternative application has never seemed an option. kind regards, ex-oficio ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: amsn 0.98.3-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-32.62-generic 2.6.32.38+drm33.16 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-32-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Jul 14 19:20:20 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20110211.1) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: amsn ** Affects: amsn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810670 Title: ansm tray icon is just a vertical line To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amsn/+bug/810670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 778407] Re: Sometimes when you open the solution file disappear GNOME panel, and all icons from my desktop
this affects me as well. every time i open monodevelop, the panels disappear, sometimes straight away, sometimes when i close monodevelop. monodevelop seems to cast an edge shadow over the panels in a way that other windows dont, maybe this is related. also possibly related is the fact that my panels are set to be slightly transparent, which i don't want to give up. i would be interested to know if the original poster has transparent panels? the panels are still there, but invisible. i can still open the menu and open the terminal. i type killall gnome-panel and the panels restart, and it's back to normal. im using 10.04 lucid, with metacity not compiz. however, i have checked the compositing manager box in the metacity settings in gconf-editor so that i get true transparency in my terminal which also matters to me. hopefully some or all of this is useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778407 Title: Sometimes when you open the solution file disappear GNOME panel, and all icons from my desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monodevelop/+bug/778407/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hi, apologies for forgetting about this. i have just had a play trying to see what is available. as suspected, it seems its not possible to influence how the macd is displayed on a particular server. the ichart.finance.yahoo.com server seems to be the better option though. even though it doesn't look as visually appealing, the signal line is visible, and where it cuts the macd columns it does sort of create a MACD histogram of sorts. this one at least does provide the information one would need if they were trying to see the macd. to re-use that example you gave, the chart below demonstrates this: http://ichart.finance.yahoo.com/z?s=JMC.Lt=6mq=ll=offz=lp=m20,e5,e20,b,v,a=f14,w14,m26-12-9,ss some people might not like the look of this graph though. i would suggest the best thing would be to allow the server to be chosen from a combobox in the preferences. what language is this written in? i may have time to do this over the next few weeks. regards, ex-oficio -- invest applet MACD is incorrectly displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations
this bug has become worse for me since upgrading to lucid. i had the problem with previous versions of ubuntu but after resetting the positions a few times gnome seemed to learn. The problem is not related to rebooting or restarting x or anything like that. the problem is that at home i connect a big lcd monitor to my laptop via a vga cable, and when away obviously i just use the laptop screen. on changing from one to the other the applets are all in the wrong order, or floating in space. im using the proprietary Nvidia driver, although in my opinion the problem is not related to that. i see the fix as being achieved by having the actual order of the applets saved, not just the positions. any space should be saved, as well as noting when applets are touching, or when an applet touches the end of the panel. when applets are touching each other or the edge they will remain stuck together or to the edge, with the space being dynamically altered. floating applets would be a special case, and are detected by noting that nothing is stuck to either side except space. i realise this is probably far from the logic currently used to determine the locations, but i would point out that what i have suggested is very similar to the way the window controls are positioned on any gnome window. to see the way this is set up open gconf-editor and go to Apps - Metacity - General and choose the key named button_layout. by the way, if like me you hate the new lucid window control layout see this link: http://hubpages.com/hub/Move-Window-Controls-back-to-right-in- Ubuntu-1004 kind regards -- GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44082 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE my post on the 31st of october ( #84 ) and my problems with sound. i have found the solution and it was the sl-modem proprietary driver: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sl-modem/+bug/449762 disabling it (in the hardware drivers tool in the administration menu) and restoring my pulesaudio configuration files to their original state overcame the problem. its interesting that nusret's post from the 28th of october also worked, although requiring manual edits to files. just posting here in case anyone else has experienced this problem. -- [Regression] 0x1025007f needs model=will quirk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Enrico, Thanks for the response. i knew the data came from yahoo, but i didnt realise the charts were generated by yahoo directly. It's an odd way to show the macd data, and ive never seen it before. its not very easy to read it. I will see if i can generate the MACD in the conventional manner directly at the yahoo site, and let you know if so. i couldnt do it when i tried a few moments ago, but i dont have much time now, and will try again later. again, thanks for your response, regards, ex-oficio. [Bug 438536] Re: Notifications should show up closer to top right
the changes to notifications as compared to jaunty are a seriously retrograde step. i have just installed juliens fantastic package to fix this bug and it really is so much better. the correct behaviour should be that all passive notifications appear in the corner with existing notifications moving downwards to make room in a downward-growing stack. there was no need whatsoever to alter the jaunty behaviour. i think it was as far back as the intrepid release that volume and brightness notifications appeared in the bottom-middle and it looked very nice. i have to say that i didnt feel the move to the top right was a negative development. the notifications themselves are very nice- looking, and the design of them is one thing that has improved with the karmic release. i have already seen the response from the ubuntu thought police about this which was essentially i will hear your protestations just so long as they dont disagree with the decided policy and frankly its the screensaver-settings nonsense all over again, and the attitude beggars belief. i am always telling people how good ubuntu is (and of course i still think its the best), but this is the first time i have upgraded and been really disappointed with the tinkering that has taken place. good day. -- Notifications should show up closer to top right https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438536 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

the old kernel + modules didnt help. dont know what has happen to the sound setup in ubuntu, but it doesnt wanty to play nicely with the driver and hardwiare. to expand on my previous post, the mute light is blue for most of the boot-up process (which is a total horror-show compared to the jaunty boot by the way) but then turns orange near the end. something is disabling the sound card! all that dmesg has is: [ 24.873949] HDA Intel :00:1b.0: PCI INT A - GSI 22 (level, low) - IRQ 22 [ 24.873984] HDA Intel :00:1b.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 25.591505] input: HDA Digital PCBeep as /devices/pci:00/:00:1b.0/input/ ? -- [Regression] No sound in Karmic (HDA Intel ICH6 Realtek ALC260) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 418627] Re: [Regression] No sound in Karmic (HDA Intel ICH6 Realtek ALC260)
the hack to /etc/pulse/default.pa posted by Nusret on 2009-10-28 (post#77) worked for me. to be accurate, i made the change, rebooted opened sound preferences and saw that the dummy device had been replaced by internal audio analog device. however mute led was orange, but sotware reported the device to be unmuted. after cycling the mute checkbox on and off, the led was blue and behaviour was correct. this behaviour has continued after a reboot. audio jack behaviour is correct as well. this is obviously not an acceptable situation for the less tech savvy, and really shouldnt be acceptable to any of us because it means that something somewhere isnt doing what it should be. it also probably means that when the issue is solved those of us that implement this hack will end up with incorrect /etc/pulse/default.pa files, but hey at least i have sound now. i will still gladly provide any pertinent info asked for in pursuit of fixing this bug as it isnt really fixed. cheers, ex-oficio. -- [Regression] No sound in Karmic (HDA Intel ICH6 Realtek ALC260) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
RE: [Bug 387538] Re: window controls not displaying correctly with dust sand theme
i suspect it may be because of compiz. in fact, i just switched to metacity and it doesnt happen. however, only this theme suffers from it, and i couldnt say whether the bug is in gnome-themes-ubuntu or in compiz. g3mu, I'm happy to report your suggested hack works for me, many thanks. i wouldn't have thought of that as it required a bit more insight into the system than i have! did you post it on the bug page? much appreciated, thanks again, L Wilkinson On Mon, 2009-08-10 at 05:40 +, Gemu wrote: hi I have a little hack for this problem cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state this command to force update the status of AC_Adapter correctly, this will be used for the hack. sudo vim /etc/acpi/events/battery_event (copy/paste) event=battery.* action=cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/AC/state /dev/null then restarting the daemon acpid or reboot. service acpid restart now plugged in/out should work out correctly. -- [Master] hal/acpi incorrectly reports AC adapter state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213128] Re: [Master] hal/acpi incorrectly reports AC adapter state
i experience this issue INTERMITTENTLY on my HP dv6599ea (dv6000 series basically). when it decides to exhibit the behaviour i have discovered that issuing the command cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ACAD/state gives the response: state: off-line or: state: on-line depending on what the case may be, but the act of issuing the command causes gnome or hal or guidance-power-manager (or whatever the source of the issue is) is become aware of the proper state, and make all the proper display, and power adjustments. i find this strange (and certainly beyond my understanding of the OS), and just thought i would let you know in case it helps; apologies if it doesn't. when the problem is there, it is precisely as described in the initial description of the bug at the top of this report. only deviation is that i am not using kde, i am using gnome(ubuntu jaunty): uname -a Linux orion 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux gnome version as per the attached .png. many thanks for all efforts. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-System Monitor.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28004681/Screenshot-System%20Monitor.png -- [Master] hal/acpi incorrectly reports AC adapter state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213128 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
