[Bug 1966498] Re: kernel:[ 7548.242662] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 3203s! [kauditd:110]

2022-03-29 Thread Federico Foschini
I'm getting the same bug even on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v2 @
2.10GHz, I'm starting to think it's not CPU related.

Am I the only one affected? Are there any logs which can help triage
this bug?

I've tested (accidentaly) on 4 different servers. Three of them have the
same CPU of the bug report. The fourth one has the cpu attached to this

[Bug 1931105] [NEW] Sleep issue on ubuntu 21.04, CPU AMD 5700u

2021-06-07 Thread Federico Calzoni
Public bug reported:

System Info
Dell Inspiron 5515
Operating System: Kubuntu 21.04
Kernel Version: 5.12.9-051209-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 15,1 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD RENOIR

If I suspend my pc, the screen, fans and keyboard backlight turn off.
However if I try to wake up from suspension the screen stays black,
while the keyboard backlight starts blinking. The only way to unlock it
is to click the power button, and the pc will automatically restart
(thus losing the data of the active session).

Initially I had the 5.11 kernel, then to see if the problem was solved I
tried to install the 5.12 kernel and the 5.12.9 kernel, but there were
no improvements.

I am experiencing the same issue. I am using a very old machine: it's an Acer
T180 with a NVIDIA GT710 graphics card (driver nvidia-460) and an AMD Athlon

The process causing the crash is /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session.
I will try to switch to Nouveau and Wayland and report back.

[Bug 1908609] acpidump.txt

apport information

** Attachment added: "acpidump.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908609/+attachment/5444769/+files/acpidump.txt

** Description changed:

  I'm running Linux Mint 20

With the last 2 kernel updates my laptop now doesn't stay in suspension.

-Up to Kernel: 5.4.0-54-generic, all works. Laptop suspends and stays
suspended until I press the power button.
-Kernel: 5.4.0-56-generic . Laptop suspends and immeditely resumes without
staying in suspension.
-Kernel: 5.4.0-58-generic . Laptop suspends and immeditely resumes without
staying in suspension.

It's as if an interrupt of some kind or the EC were waking it up immediately
after it entered suspension!
I have 2 identical laptops: same problem.

  Thank you,
  Federico Tejada

** Description changed:

  I'm running Linux Mint 20

With the last 2 kernel updates my laptop now doesn't stay in suspension.

-Up to Kernel: 5.4.0-54-generic, all works. Laptop suspends and stays
suspended until I press the power button.
-Kernel: 5.4.0-56-generic . Laptop suspends and immeditely resumes without
staying in suspension.
-Kernel: 5.4.0-58-generic . Laptop suspends and immeditely resumes without
staying in suspension.

It's as if an interrupt of some kind or the EC were waking it up immediately
after it entered suspension!
I have 2 identical laptops: same problem.

[Bug 1897613] Re: fprint hangs after first finger scan (fprintd-enroll) with AES3500

2020-12-02 Thread Federico Cupellini
Hello, the problem seems not fixed, but I'm not really sure how to debug
it now.

$ lsb_release -a
LSB Version:
core-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:printing-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch:security-11.1.0ubuntu2-noarch
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.10
Release:20.10
Codename: groovy

I open settings and try to add a fingerprint to a user, after the first try
nothing happens anymore.

This is lsof with the fingerprint enrolling open (I should be using the
right library)

:~$ sudo lsof -n | grep fprint

[Bug 1894881] Re: [XPS 13 9300, Realtek ALC289, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2020-10-01 Thread Federico Gentile
I have the same machine (Dell XPS 13 9300), came preloaded with Ubuntu
18, then upgraded to 20.04. Running Kernel 5.4.0-48-generic #52.

I have the same problem, only that nothing really helps apart from
restarting until it randomly works ...

[Bug 1897613] [NEW] fprint hangs after first finger scan (fprintd-enroll - fprintd_demo)

2020-09-28 Thread Federico Cupellini
Public bug reported:

Hi, I don't know if this problem is related to fprintd or libfprint, but I am
happy to help debugging.
I have got an APC BIOPOD EC fingerprint reader, sporting an AuthenTec, Inc.
AES3500 TruePrint Sensor (lsusb gives 08ff:5731).
My system is:
LSB Version:
core-9.20170808ubuntu1-noarch:printing-9.20170808ubuntu1-noarch:security-9.20170808ubuntu1-noarch
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic
Kernel: 4.15.0-111-generic
Installed fprintd via APT and compiled libfprint after git cloning.
I looked around in the different open issues, and I saw it is a problem
experienced by many.
It doesn't matter if I use gnome fingerprint authentication setup

Opened a bug on libfprint here
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/-/issues/306

** Affects: libfprint (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1893578] [NEW] Touchpad recognized as a generic mouse

2020-08-30 Thread Federico Hausler
Public bug reported:

Hello!

The touchpad of my "Bangho G05 Zero" laptop is recognized by "xinput
list" as a "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse".

I been try everything these days, but I do anything about it :(. I had
come to the conclusion that probably is a kernel bug, it shouldn't
recognize it at least as some kind of "generic touchpad"?

The thing is that I can't do gestures like two-fingers scrolling and
that is a killing drawback for me to use this laptop. There is a way to
force the touchpad recognition with some hack? Any help will we much
appreaciated.

[Bug 1881322] Re: Touchpad not detected in 'Lenovo V15-IIL model 82C5' after installing Ubuntu 20.04

2020-06-18 Thread Federico Dadam
You-Cheng, i also tried removing pci=nocrs and rebooting and it did not
work either.

I would like to try
https://launchpad.net/~vicamo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-1881322, should I
delete all the grub parameters that i added?

To add further information:

- With the parameters I currently have, and with Mouse Click Emulation set in
"Area" (in Tweaks), the right mouse button and middle mouse button does not
work (In xev i can see that all are mapped to button 1) but the gestures as two
finger scrolling work fine.
- With Click Emulation set in "Fingers", xev shows button 1, button 2 and
button 3 with one, two and three fingers, respectively.
- The Option "Disable Touchpad while Typing" does not work with any of the
previous configurations.

Also, I think this is unrelated:

- Sometimes when I boot ubuntu, the sound does not work, even the icon in the
sound settings (top right corner) does not show, and the volume with the Fn
keys does not change.
- When you try to open an app (e.g. Firefox), a folder or a terminal, it needs
around a minute to work for the first time, then you can open anything normally.
- When I try to shutdown or restart, it shows a recurrent message "[
56.603594] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: No response from codec, resetting bus:
last cmd=0x202f8100"
- The initial number rises (e.g. the second message is [57.607631]) and the
hexadecimal number also changes.
- I have to force the shutdown. It usually requires one restart to fix, but
sometimes i get in this situation two times in a row.

2020-06-11 Thread Federico Dadam
It worked! I added a few parameters to grub before but the did not
worked.

For future reference to others:

- Access the grub configuration file by typing in a terminal: sudo nano
/etc/default/grub
- Find the line "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" and append i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs
- Save the file and do in the terminal update

[Bug 1881322] [NEW] Touchpad not detected in 'Lenovo V15-IIL model 82C5' after installing Ubuntu 20.04

2020-05-29 Thread Federico Dadam
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 is installed in a brand new Lenovo V15-IIL alongside
Windows 10. According to lenovo's support page, the driver for windows
is Synaptics 19.5.10.149_Elan 22.4.18.1. In windows the touchpad works
fine.

This model has two options in BIOS regarding Fn Keys, a "Smart Fn key"
that toogles the Fn key on/off each time you press it and a "Foolproof
Fn Key" that maps the Fn key to Ctrl when you press a combinations of
keys that does not have a Fn assigned. When I enable the "foolproof fn
key" in the BIOS, the Fn + F1...F12 and the sound driver stop working (i
dont have sound, i can't change the volume and the volume icon in the
GUI does not show). Fn+F6 (to enable/disable touchpad) can't enable it.

2020-03-15 Thread federico
I can't give you a photo or a video because I had to restart the computer
because it was unusable I also add that being stuck at the desk with a double
click on the desk the last program I had used in this case firefox which was
always open , so I managed to report the bug otherwise I would not have been
able to do it because everything was blocked, I also helped myself with alt +
f2.
I don't know which application was affected, a user told me gnome-shell however
everything that was seen on the screen was affected except the programs, bar on
the left, bar on the top and desk. The activity button worked only if you
pressed the windows button from the keyboard, clicking on it with the mouse
nothing so everything else I have talked about so far. Even once apoerto from
the keyboard anything you touched on that screen nothing happened so I had to
press it again.

[Bug 1846711] [NEW] Caja hanging when navigating UP in MTP protocol

2019-10-04 Thread Federico Fuga
Public bug reported:

Have an MTP device connected, navigate to one folder. In my case I have:

mtp://%5Busb%3A007,030%5D/LogFiles

The folder must have some content. Empty folder seems to work fine.
Then navigate up to the parent folder. Caja hangs, not always but around 1 or 2
or more times over 10. seems to depends also on timings, the faster the click,
more likely it seems to hang.

Tested in 1.20.2, Ubuntu 18.04LTS.

[Bug 1791407] Re: Thinkpad L570 UEFI destroyed after BIOS update

2018-09-10 Thread Federico Foschini
Sorry for the double comment.
I'm not sure if this is a fault of fwupd or the fact that lenovo released a
fault firmware; anyway I think Ubuntu should not push firmware updates along
normal system updates.

Bios updates are very dangerous (as shown in this bug-report) and even
Lenovo says on their official documentation to NOT update the bios
unless your system isn't working as expected.

[Bug 1791589] [NEW] [Lenovo Thinkpad L560/L570] Latest ubuntu bios upgrade bricks the computer

2018-09-10 Thread Federico Foschini
Public bug reported:

On Friday 7 Sep. a bios update was released through ubuntu software center in
Ubuntu 18.04.
I've attached a screenshot of the update to this bug report.

I've applied the update to a Lenovo Thinkpad L560 AND a Lenovo Thinkpad
L570 and after rebooting both computers started beeping and they died.

Now both laptop shows only a black screen and all the Lenovo suggested
procedures to restore the BIOS were unfruitful. The only solution
appears to send back the laptops to be repaired.
