uo, this bug has a very long history are you shure that this is the same problem that I hvae reported? because with 10.10 I did not have the problem, the read performance was as good as it is now in windows 7 on the same pc. and I think the reporter wanted to report a problem with a usb connected sd card reader. From my side it affects _just_ the sd card reader (internal, I don't have a usb card reader). @Kern Sibbald: yes my answers are a bit inconsistent. But this bug does not affect my Dell Studio 17 with i7. But in my case, the fan runs under ubuntu not so often than in windows 7. And I think that is because, ubuntu produces less load than windows. (cpu in idle) . And under both OS the fan seems to be controled, when I stress the cpu the fan runs higher and louder, but after that the fan calm down again. After I started it yestarday the first time and later rebooted my system (dell studio 1747) grub loader was broken with the message the symbol '_shetub_fshelp_read_file' not found. To provide that this damn Dell Datasafe Local Backup application will not destroy once again the grub loader I deinstalled this Datasafe software with Windows Software Deinstallation, and guess what happend after next reboot? the symbol '[some other text]' not found same problem, the deinstallation had destroyed grub loader once again! Bug is invalid. This is not an ubuntu (or linux) problem, it is a Dell problem, especially a design problem of the studio line. And the 1747 with its core i7 CPU is getting hotter than all other CPUs, but it has also more power than others. The fan runs all 40-50 sec for 10-20 sec, this is quite annoying, but in windows 7 it is even worse. Under Win 7 the fan runs very quiet and increases and decreases in speed according to the CPU load as I would expect. I installed now the new nvidia driver.169.07 from nvidia.com on my thinkpad t61 and unistalled nvidia-glx: now compiz works fine. When I disable the plugin for 'publish calendar' then evolution runs very well! Do you need further information about my settings? I think it is a bug and I hope you will fix it.
