You should always keep your system fully up to date. As for the fact
that some borders are black, it does not look like a bug to me. It does

We can't do anything without a minimal patch that fixes this particular
issue. We don't want to import a lot of unrelated changed into a stable
release because of the high risk of regressions.
Or you can request a backport:
It's a bug in the code. The function force_widget_redraw in
src/animation.c is supposed to return a gboolean, but there is no return
statement in the body of the function.
It should probably be fixed in git soon, or you can try an earlier
revision.

-e (or --ifexists) is an option to swapon only and must be used in
conjunction with -a, in wich case it tells swapon to skip devices that
have a swap line in /etc/fstab but don't exist (without it swapon will
throw an error if there is a swap line in /etc/fstab for a nonexistent
device).

If you don't have a menu.lst, GRUB will fail to update it. You must
either answer y when GRUB asks if you want to have it create a menu.lst
for you, or create one yourself.
