[Bug 1573192] Re: apparmor prevents using SCSI hostdevs

2021-03-06 Thread ermac god
Workaround in focal fossa lts
Example connect my blueray sata device to virtual machine

1) check device channel (in my case channel 2 and device sg5)
root@host:~# lsscsi -g
[2:0:0:0]cd/dvd ASUS BC-12B1ST1.01 /dev/sr0 /dev/sg5

2) edit the file /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/TEMPLATE.qemu end add line
owner /dev/sg5 rw,
owner /dev/sg5 k,

example content file /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/TEMPLATE.qemu
#
# This profile is for the domain whose UUID matches this file.
#

#include

profile LIBVIRT_TEMPLATE flags=(attach_disconnected) {
  #include
  owner /dev/sg5 rw,
  owner /dev/sg5 k,
}

3) on vm xml add where 2 on value scsi_host2 correspond to previously command
lsscsi -g

[Bug 1850774] [NEW] Crash when used in falkon as of 19.10

2019-10-31 Thread god
Public bug reported:

After updating to 19.10 I've hit crashes when QtWebEngine (5.12.4) is
used from Falkon browser (3.1.0) while trying to load
https://github.com/ for example which looks similar to
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405852

Would be nice to backport necessary fixes from 5.13.0 or switch to it
altogether.

[Bug 1850771] [NEW] Falkon is broken in 19.10

2019-10-31 Thread god
Public bug reported:

Lot's of pages (https://github.com/ for exmaple) fails to load in falkon in
ubuntu 19.10 due to crash in QtWebEngine:
"
Failed loading page
Something went wrong while loading this page.
Try reloading the page or closing some tabs to make more memory available.
"

Versions:
Falkon 3.1.0
QtWebEngine 5.12.4

It might be https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405852 so it could be
potentially fixed by updating to QtWebEngine version 5.13.0

[Bug 1627546] [NEW] use safe mount for usb devices

2016-09-25 Thread god
Public bug reported:

For years ubuntu has been plagued by horrible user experience when dealing with
usb drives:
- user forget to unmount device
- fs is corrupted
- user insert device back and is overwritten/lost

Luckily solution is finally available: ubuntu should use systemd-mount for all
usb devices so they are
- mount only when it's really necessary
- aggressively unmounted to prevent data loss
- fscked before mounting

This will lead to much nicer situation where new users will not blame
ubuntu anymore for data loss.

[Bug 1577227] Re: shutdown fails with password request

2016-05-27 Thread god
Seems like xubuntu somehow managed to break user sessions: I'm member of
sudo group and default .pkla in /var/lib/polkit-1 should allow me to
shutdown without asking for password if there is an active session.
Apparently polkit fails to see the session - I recall there's been some
news regarding xfce and consolekit, not sure if it's related.

[Bug 1573441] [NEW] upgrade to 16.04 fails

2016-04-22 Thread god
Public bug reported:

The upgrade from 15.10 with all the updates installed fails:
- when "sudo /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/do-release-upgrade
--frontend=DistUpgradeViewGtk3" is executed it hangs forever:

java version "1.7.0_95"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.4) (7u95-2.6.4-0ubuntu0.15.10.2)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)

- when the same command is ran without sudo it downloads proper tar but
fails with "no such file or directory" after trying to extract it:

extracting 'xenial.tar.gz'
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.

Exactly the same behavior is observed than it's called indirectly from
update-manager.

[Bug 1526824] [NEW] boot on uefi directly instead of grub

2015-12-16 Thread god
Public bug reported:

Right now even on modern systems with UEFI, Ubuntu is booted via grub2
bootloader. This is slow, error-prone and completely unnecessary. Would
be much better and faster to make GNU/Linux kernel bootable directly by
UEFI firmware. This would also simplify dual-boot setups.

A good first step would be upgrading to latest upstream LTS release which is
13.6.0
Chances are - it's already fixed there.

[Bug 1458323] Re: Asterisk crashes with default install because of pjsip

2015-11-11 Thread god
Blacklisting res_pjsip is by no mean "fix" - the chan_sip is legacy
stack, the pjsip is the one recommended to use. If asterisk in ubuntu is
so broken that pjsip is not working properly than it's good enough
reason to switch distro.

I think the importance got to be set to critical.

[Bug 993298] Re: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts

2015-11-06 Thread god
Much better solution would be adding wildcards support directly to /etc/hosts.
Or at least to systemd-resolved.
There is even RFE for the latter: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/766

Having dns server running just to add wildcards is really an overkill.
Systemd-resolved is much better suit.

[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness

2015-11-06 Thread god
In my case ( see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1460985 ) the
culprit generating huge I/O throughput was in /etc/cron.daily/man-db

It's such a long-standing and persistent bug that the default advice I
give nowadays to people complaining about their ubuntu "got stuck again"
is to run "sudo killall -9 find".

That's really a shame:
- it's not some random IO spike coming from nowhere
- it's not 3rd-party, it's in default install
- it's reproducible

Yet, we still don't even have workaround, let alone proper policing IO
of all the background tasks shipped in default ubuntu install.

Hopefully migration to systemd timer units would help tackling it.

[Bug 1505957] [NEW] ntfs copy kills ubuntu

2015-10-14 Thread god
Public bug reported:

This is trivial to reproduce - just plug any external drive with ntfs
and copy smth substantial to local ntfs partition. The result - mouse
doesn't even move most of the time, the system is useless and
unresponsive until copying is finished.

Yes, ntfs is not native on GNU/Linux but nevertheless - this is very
common task on loads of dual boot installations. And under no
circumstances it should make ubuntu useless as it does now. I don't care
much if copying big files to/from ntfs takes 5 or 10 minutes as long as
I can actually keep using ubuntu in a meantime.

Note the same effect can be observer while copying between ntfs and ext4
or btrfs - only in this case you can sometimes move mouse pointer a bit.

I hope that using BFQ http://algo.ing.unimo.it/people/paolo/disk_sched/
and some of systemd magic might help in this case.

To clarify: since we don't know if users prefer push or pull model
we should provide both systemd-journal-upload and systemd-journal-

[Bug 1479732] [NEW] systemd causes mess in /var/tmp

2015-07-30 Thread god
Public bug reported:

There's enormous amount of directories like systemd-private-
fdd28b0bfe4c47808e41dbb7a0300bdc-colord.service-vrglD7 in /var/tmp

It's clear why they are necessary but it's still looks irritating and is
magnified (compared to /tmp for example) by the fact that /var/tmp is
not cleaned up (and of course it shouldn't be) on every reboot.

The solution is trivial and already employed by lots of services for
/tmp - just prepend . to the folder name so it's hidden from user's file
manager.

Would be excellent if ubuntu could apply this to systemd as well: the
lesser is chance for user confusion (those directories are unaccessible
to the user anyway so there's little sense in showing them) - the
better.

[Bug 1477105] [NEW] asterisk failed to start under systemd

2015-07-22 Thread god
Public bug reported:

Installed asterisk from repo on 15.04 x86_64: Version: 1:13.1.0~dfsg-1ubuntu2
When started automatically on boot it's failing - no binding to ports 5060 for
unknown reason.

Curiously when started manually (as root of course) asterisk is working
just fine. So I guess it's hairy and ugly /etc/init.d/asterisk mess to
blame and an ultimate fix would be to finally ship asterisk.service
instead.

But in a meantime I'm looking for workaround to make this work.

systemctl status is 'degraded' after boot.

Curiously when started manually (as root of course) asterisk is working
just fine. So I guess it's hairy and ugly /etc/init.d/asterisk mess to
blame and an ultimate fix would be to finally ship asterisk.service
instead.

But in a meantime I'm looking for workaround to make this work.

systemctl status is 'degraded' after boot.
systemctl status asterisk
● asterisk.service - Asterisk PBX
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/asterisk.service; enabled; vendor
preset: enabled)
Active: active (running) since Wed 2015-07-22 11:47:11 UTC; 1min 10s ago
 Docs: man:asterisk(8)
 Main PID: 1102 (asterisk)
   CGroup: /lxc/asterisk/system.slice/asterisk.service
   └─1102 /usr/sbin/asterisk -g -f -U asterisk

Jul 22 11:47:11 asterisk systemd[1]: Started Asterisk PBX.
Jul 22 11:47:11 asterisk systemd[1]: Starting Asterisk PBX...

does not report anything suspicious.

journalctl -a -u asterisk
-- Logs begin at Wed 2015-07-22 11:45:04 UTC, end at Wed 2015-07-22 11:47:12
UTC. --
Jul 22 11:47:11 asterisk systemd[1]: Started Asterisk PBX.
Jul 22 11:47:11 asterisk systemd[1]: Starting Asterisk PBX...

as well as journalctl.

Yet, no port binding:
ss -tapn | grep 5060 - gives nothing.

ps aux|grep asterisk
asterisk 1102 0.0 0.3 1496976 29660 ? Ssl 11:47 0:01
/usr/sbin/asterisk -g -f -U asterisk

Although asterisk is running.

[Bug 1451247] Re: wrong ntpdate dependency in ubuntu-minimal

2015-07-15 Thread god
On a related note: systemd-timesyncd seems to be blindly imported from
Debian so it defaults to *.debian.pool.ntp.org - if Ubuntu consider
itself to be a separate product than it might make sense to apply for
*.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org

[Bug 1474047] [NEW] pppoe fails inside container

2015-07-13 Thread god
Public bug reported:

I've created privileged lxc container on ubuntu 15.04 x86_64 (sudo lxc-
create...) added their ethernet interface connected to dsl modem - so
far so good: pppoe-discovery from inside the container recognoze it,
pppoeconf is able to configure it.

The problem is that the container network fails to start automatically
during the boot due to missing /dev/ppp device.

I've added following line to the container config:
lxc.cgroup.devices.allow = c 108:0 rwm

On the host device is available:
ls -alh /dev/ppp
crw--- 1 root root 108, 0 Jul 13 17:37 /dev/ppp

But inside the container there's nothing. Even more curious - if I manually
call mknod from withing the container than dsl connection is established just
fine:
sudo lxc-attach -n mycontainer -- mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

[Bug 1470580] Re: unprivileged lxc containers fails with custom bridge

2015-07-07 Thread god
Thanks for clarification! Would be kinda helpful if lxc-start could
print actual numbers (X quota configured for bridge123, Y is in use).
What's the upper limit on those quota numbers? Can I have 100 bridges
with 400 interfaces in each?

And still - the interfaces are named eth0, eth1 etc. Surprisingly on
another machine modifying kernel command line and killing udev rules
from /etc were sufficient to get rid of this renaming. Are there some
more places this creeped into?
