[Bug 555408] Re: Shotwell makes USB mouse jumpy/jerky
Hi Jim I've read and understood your message - I understand the problems of debugging a fault you can't reproduce. However, giving us a clear statement of where we are - without making it sound as though we were simple - was really helpful and much appreciated. Having said all of that I have made my problem go away. I originally installed the 10.10 beat release and the applied all of the upgrades until it was up to date with the live version - everything worked fine apart from the Shotwell/gphoto2 mouse problem. So anyway I downloaded and installed copy of the full 10.10 amd 64 release. This is a pain as I need to install and configure all of the extras that I had working before. Well after all of the Shotwell seems to be working well with no mouse glitches. [Bug 555408] Re: Shotwell makes USB mouse jumpy/jerky
Hi Jim I'm saying that I installed a beta copy of 64-bit 10.10 and applied the upgrades as they became available over the next few weeks (using update manager). The system was stable and I was not aware of any problems apart from the Shotwell gphoto2 problem. Using synaptic to reinstall Shotwell didn't cure the problem. Just in case something funny had crept in along the way I then decided to install a clean version of the live release of 64-bit 10.10 system. Shotwell is now working perfectly (and I'm really pleased with it) regards neil -- Shotwell makes USB mouse jumpy/jerky https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555408] Re: Shotwell makes USB mouse flaky
I am concerned that this bug has been assigned an importance of low or unknown. I think it should be higher for the following reasons:- The bug does not just affect the kensington mouse, it makes Shotwell virtually unusable for those affected and there is no simple work- around. As mentioned in my previous post - if the problem has been fixed in the latest version of Shotwell then we now need to try to get Ubuntu to ship this updated version of Shotwell. If this is the case then please let us know Shotwell looks like a great program I really want to be able to use it. thanks, Neil -- Shotwell makes USB mouse flaky https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555408] Re: Shotwell makes USB mouse flaky
I am also experiencing this problem running Ubuntu 10.10 I would like to run Shotwell in preference to F-spot or Picasa but, as things stand at the moment, the problems with the mouse make it virtually unusable. I tried the gphoto2 autodetect experiment and found that it always locked up the mouse. The version shipping with Ubuntu 10.10 is gphoto2 amd64 2.4.5-2. This is well behind the latest 2.4.10 release so I tried installing from the tarball. However, I then started to get into further dependency issues with libusb. I agree with bmhm that this problem is a showstopper and that many end- users will simply move back to Picasa or F-Spot without anyone even knowing that they tried Shotwell. It may be that the problem is fixed in 2.4.10 in which case we need to be contacting the Ubuntu release team to get them to ship the latest version. Do you know the contact details of the right person in Ubuntu? If so I'm happy to chase them up a bit. [Bug 392825] Re: [Koala] WALTOP tablets not supported anymore (with quickfix)
Following some advice from Bryce I have tried using my Aiptek 14000U with the alpha2 release of 10.4 Lucid Lynx 64-bit. I did a standard installation and then plugged the tablet into the usb port. Everything seems ok - the X-server didn't crash, the pointer moves and the mouse clicks seem to work. I realise that not everyone will be able to use alpha software but this solves my problem with the aiptek/waltop drivers. If I find any problems when I try to use the tablet in earnest than I will log them as new bugs. -- [Koala] WALTOP tablets not supported anymore (with quickfix) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 392825] Re: [Koala] WALTOP tablets not supported anymore (with quickfix)
Mark I have two PCs running 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 and I am trying to connect an Aiptek 14000U. Out of the box I can draw lines but get no mouse clicks. I followed you advice and - hey presto - everything worked fine. I then tried to replicate the success on the second PC but found that I had introduced the bug in which the X-server crashes when the tablet is plugged-in. Could you perhaps give just a little more detail about what you did? It would be nice if we could tie-down the fix/work-around as I think there are quite a lot of people affected by this problem. (at the moment I am having to keep a dual boot with 9.04 in order to use the Aiptek which doesn't seem right somehow). [Bug 498008] Re: Waltop Digital Tablet clicks do not work after upgrade 9.04 - 9.10
I can confirm that I have seen the same behaviour with my waltop/aiptek tablet. Frustratingly it works out of the box with 9.04 When trying to use the tablet with Gimp you need to go to edit/preferences and activate the tablet as an input device. There is a pull-down menu of available devices. Under Ubuntu 9.10 there is a single waltop related entry. However, under 9.04 there are four entries (eg tablet, pen, eraser ...) This bug should be considered confirmed. As to its severity - well opinions could differ but if you want to use your nice tablet with Linux then it's a total show-stopper. And I do appreciate the work and efforts of people who may be able to solve this for me - I know that I would not be able to successfully hack this driver code myself - thanks. -- Waltop Digital Tablet clicks do not work after upgrade 9.04 - 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498008 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 113816] Re: wlan0 device not ready - can't set essid -workaround
Brian Thanks for getting back to me. My netgear card failed recently so I took the opportunity to replace it with a Belkin card. This works fine so this is no longer an issue for me. The netgear card was only bought in April so I was quite surprised when it failed after a few months. This leaves open the possibility that there may have been an underlying hardware problem that caused my problems..? I'm a bit sceptical about this as other people seemed to be having similar problems. If other people are still experiencing problems then presumably they will have raised their own bug-reports. However, as I no longer have the hardware to reproduce the fault I think you can safely close this bug-report. [Bug 113816] wlan0 device not ready - can't set essid -workaround
Public bug reported: I recently successfully upgraded from Edgy to Feisty. My wifi (Netgear WG311v3 pci card) was working fine. I the tried to enter settings to allow the card to access a wpa network rather than wep. In doing so I found that I could no longer configure the card correctly at all. The card operates with the ndiswrapper driver Removing the gnome network manager and network manager made no difference. I also tried a number of alternative drivers for the card, without success. In fact I even completely reinstalled feisty. The card was accepting the wep key, key mode (eg open), nickname etc BUT I could not set the essid. Looking at dmesg showed an error wlan0: device not ready. Interestingly looking at iwevent while trying to add the essid showed that iwevent was reporting that the essid had been correctly set.. it had not. I recall that on upgrading from ubuntu I saw a message that the card configuration had been changed (I didn't pay much attention as everything was working at the time). I think the message was generated on modprobing ndiswrapper the first time). I also noticed that the windows disk included a setup program as well as the drivers. I wondered if the problem was due to some settings on the card having been reset in the attempt to use wpa .. and iwconfig/ndiswrapper/network manager were all unable to reset these parameters? I desperation I reinstalled windows XP on a spare corner of the machine ( I know, I know) and used the netgear utilities to connect the card to my wifi router. This worked fine and the card remembered the setting after a complete shutdown and reboot into Ubuntu. Looking at various support websites I know that this problem (or something remarkably similar) has affected a large number of people. It also seems to have been around for some time before Feisty. This is important because failure to get wifi running would be a showstopper fro many people. I am happy to provide more specific evidence if required but, meanwhile, I hope that the nature of the work-around above should help the ndiswrapper/iwconfig maintainers to understand what is going on. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- wlan0 device not ready - can't set essid -workaround https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113816 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
