[Bug 1294303] Re: Mediascanner-service-2 process is killing HD and consumes lot of CPU

2014-05-12 Thread ionash.
That log file indicates that you might be missing some codecs, because
some of your mp3 files fail on indexing. You might want to install
gstreamer1.0 plugin packages bad and/or ugly.

I have those packages installed since always.

Mediascanner must scan the files or they can't be queried by the music
scope or the music player app.

Since I never truly used Music Scope, (not even believe it to be useful
for me) uninstall Mediascanner was a better solution - of course in my
case.

Mediascanner remembers what files you had on the volume and the next
time you plug it in it only scans what has changed.

Actually Mediascanner never properly scanned my internal hard drive
(before uninstalling, of course), so Music Scope showed only a few files
from my collection.

[Bug 1292396] Re: After upgrade Unity session is broken

2014-03-24 Thread ionash.
I would recommend trying to fix your packages by explicitly installing the
unity-desktop package and see if it fixes your current problems.
You mean - ubuntu-desktop, right?
For me, this is (or, to be precise - was) not the best solution :), because
installing ubuntu-desktop also causes installation of lots of packages, which I
find pretty useless and unnecessary.
Like I wrote, I just installed unity package, and after resetig Unity (dconf
reset -f /org/compiz/) everything was back to normal.

[...] a whole slew of packages, including the all-important ubuntu-desktop
metapackage, were removed on 2014-03-13 around 23h00.
Yes, it's true. But this wasn't effect of my action - it happened as a result
of this particular upgrade.

there is no Unity session in Unity Greeter. I logged again into

thaths all, still no Panel, no Launcher, etc. In CCSM Unity plugin was

[Bug 1289458] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 7371b5a3

2014-03-12 Thread ionash.
It was rather one time event, and I have no idea how to reproduce it.
But recently I experienced few cases of system instability
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284800;
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284797 - maybe those bugs are connected
somehow with this one). Perhaps this is rather hardware than software
problem? I don't know.

reinstalling Rhythmbox, Rhythmbox plugins and packages related to Sound
Indicator and notifications, everything works as expected. I can't tell,
if earlier I had the MPRIS plugin enabled, or not - now is enabled.

[Bug 1283247] [NEW] The screen is not blanked when Rhythmbox is playing music

2014-02-21 Thread ionash.
Public bug reported:

When Rhythmbox will end playing music, screen goes blank immediately (and is
set to do it after 10 min of inactivity, not waiting for end of playback).
I've no idea if this is bug in gnome-screensaver, or maybe in Rhythmbox.

[Bug 1283269] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not display notifications and doesn't display details and cover of played song in Sound Indicator

2014-02-21 Thread ionash.
Public bug reported:

Earlier version of Rhythmbox (2.9x) showed the notifications about
played music track (title, cover, etc), but with Rhythmbox 3.x there is
no notifications at all. Also Sound Indicator displays no information
about the currently playing track (like in the screenshots) - instead of
cover there is circle of dots (changing in square when hovering mouse on
it).

[Bug 1128492] Re: wallpaper not updating

2013-03-20 Thread ionash.
This affect me too. Unity-greeter stuck with wallpaper set before upgrade to
13.04.
Wallpaper doesn't change even when I'm manually edit in dconf it's name.
When I'm trying change greeter background using Ubuntu Tweak, new wallpaper
shows up for a little moment, and after that again visible is the old one.
Even when I deleted from /usr/share/backrounds this wallpaper, greeter does not
show my actual wallpaper, instead default wallpaper shows up.
And now command from Sebastien's post returns name of the wallpaper, that no
longer exists in /usr/share/backgrounds!

[Bug 973559] Re: gtk-window-decorator is exiting immediately (or crashing?)

2012-09-23 Thread ionash.
I don't know, maybe, because
/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/10_compiz-gnome.gschema.override on my computer
looks exactly like Doug McMahon's (#6), and dconf list /org/compiz/profiles/
gives me unity/ too, like in Daniel van Vugt comment (#7).
But Window Decoration plugin in CCSM was enabled (like in screeshot) on my
system. Also it doesn't matter if I turn of and turn on again this plugin -
still no window decoration.

[Bug 543400] Re: I/O error after upgrade from karmic to lucid; LiveCD or AlternateCD not recognized hard drive properly

2010-04-06 Thread ionash.
When I try to mount my disk (ST3500418AS, with karmic installed and working) on
lucid (installed on another disk, with the same motherboard Asus A8VX), system
displays this message:
Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc5,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error. In some cases useful info
is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so

This problem occurred only with this specific combination of hardware. I try to
run lucid LiveCD with this Seagate hard drive and another motherboards (two
different MSI motherboards, newer than A8vx), and everything goes without
errors; on my Asus - like above.
In karmic this hardware (Seagate disk and Asus motherboard) just works (with
pci=nomsi grub command), so I think this is kernel bug.

[Bug 543400] [NEW] I/O error after upgrade from karmic to lucid; LiveCD or AlternateCD not recognized hard drive properly

2010-03-21 Thread ionash.
Public bug reported:

I/O error (like in Bug #539027) appears after update, and after reboot, when
system trying to boot from hard drive. Hovewer, LiveCD (beta 1, and earlier)
starts almost flawless, but don't recognize my disk (in gparted or palimpsest
there is no disk appear at all). Installation from alternate CD starts (build
from 18.03 and earlier; disk and partitions are recognized properly), but
freezing when partitioning program is trying to start.
I use Asus A8VX motherboard with latest BIOS, Athlon 64 3800+ processor,
Seagate Barracuda Sata II (ST3500418AS) hard drive and 32bit system. In earlier
versions (from 8.04 up to 9.10) I used grub command boot: pci=nomsi - without
this text busybox starts only.

When I used alternate cd and try install lucid on IDE disk, everything goes
very good - without grub pci=nomsi command.
When I try the same operation on Sata disks (Seagate ST3500418AS and Hitachi
HTS541080G9SA00), without grub pci=nomsi command, hard drives are not
recognized properly, and installator asks to choose driver - and I give up. Any
changes in BIOS doesn't help.
If I add pci=nomsi, installation from alternate cd was succesfull on Hitachi
HTS541080G9SA00, but on Seagate ST3500418AS (wich is used as my primary disk)
ends with frozen partitioning program and cannot be completed.
Now I downgrade back to karmic (on Seagate), but I have copy of /var/log (after
upgrade to lucid - IMO it's useless, because lucid never boot) - if some file
from there is needed, I can post.
Apologize for my english.

[Bug 539027] Re: end_request: I/O error rebooting at end of install Lucid beta

2010-03-17 Thread ionash.
Your advice is useless for me - my problem is however not the same, and I/O
error appears AFTER update, and AFTER reboot, when system trying to boot from
hard drive, not LiveCD. Hovewer, LiveCD starts almost flawless, but don't
recognize my disk (in gparted or palimpsest there is no disk appear at all).
Installation from alternate CD starts (disk and partitions are recognized
properly), but freezing when partitioning program is trying to start.
I think this is kernel or grub (rather kernel) bug - I wrote about pci=nomsi
command, now, in lucid, it doesn't works.

[Bug 539027] Re: end_request: I/O error rebooting at end of install Lucid beta

2010-03-16 Thread ionash.
I have the same issue after upgrade from karmic. Reboot ends with I/O error.
Installation from LiveCD also doesn't start, because lucid don't recognize my
hard drive.
In earlier versions (from 8.04 up to 9.10) I used grub command boot:
pci=nomsi - without this text busybox starts only. In lucid it doesn't matter
- I/O error with this command or without it.
I use Asus A8VX motherboard, Athlon 64 3800+ processor, Seagate Barracuda Sata
II (ST3500418AS) hard drive and 32bit system.
Apologize for my english.
