[Bug 1975631] [NEW] snap refresh stuck on the same message

2022-05-24 Thread ipv
Public bug reported:

since over a week now every time i give the command sudo snap refresh i
get this :

" firefox 100.0.2-1 from Mozilla✓ refreshed "

today i got a message in the notifications center saying brave update
pending shut down browser to avoid disruptions.

i shut down brave & did sudo snap refresh & brave got updated after
which when i did sudo snap refresh again i got the same :

" firefox 100.0.2-1 from Mozilla✓ refreshed "

it seems snapd is stuck on firefox from mozilla.

if i aint wrong when i do sudo snap refresh i should get :

" All snaps up to date. "

but instead i get " All snaps up to date. " when i do sudo snap refresh
--list

for your better understanding of my 22.04 snap setup :

sudo snap list gives me this :

i face the exact same issue on ubuntu 20.04.2 | gnome 3.36.8 | X11

i download the file from the above posted links, right click & in the
context menu the 1st option

is extract here so i click on that & i get a new folder with the

empty.

2021-05-23 Thread ipv
update :

i installed xarchiver on ubuntu & tried extracting the 2 files in the
links posted above by me but the results were exactly the same as with
file-roller.

i thought maybe the source files in the above links from hard disk
sentinel are corrupted so i downloaded both the above mentioned files on
a windows computer & tried extracting them with 7zip. the results were
flawless, the extraction was successful & the contents worked perfectly.

bottom line, both gnome archive manager / file-roller & xarchiver failed
to extract the above mentioned .gz files on ubuntu 20.04.2

waiting in anticipation for a resolution.

oh ok! my bad.

in that case please delete this report as this is a debian xfce issue to
my knowledge, i have no experience with xubuntu so i can not comment on
that.

just in case the parole developers are on launchpad maybe they can
intervene, just my 2 cents.

thank you very much paul.

[Bug 1929308] [NEW] parole media player volume key fails in debian xfce

2021-05-22 Thread ipv
Public bug reported:

problem occurs with debian buster 10.9 xfce installed with the cd iso.

desktop 1. this system has a logitech keyboard k120 which does not have
multimedia keys so i assign keyboard shortcuts as such :

pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 +5% : to increase sound

pactl -- set-sink-volume 0 -5% : to decrease sound

pactl -- set-sink-mute 0 toggle : to mute sound

next i play a video with parole which is default / built-in in the
buster 10.9 xfce cd iso.

if i use the keyboard shortcut assigned by me to decrease volume it
works but the keyboard shortcut assigned by me to increase volume will
not work with parole.

the keyboard shortcuts for volume assigned by me work perfectly with mpv
& vlc but now with the default / built-in media player parole.

desktop 2. this system has a dell keyboard kb216 which does have
hardware multimedia keys & even on this computer the same problem with
parole.

if play a video with parole the keyboard button to decrease volume will
decrease volume but the keyboard button to increase volume does nothing.

the shortcut keys assigned by me on the logitech keyboard on desktop 1 &
the hardware multimedia keys on the dell keyboard on desktop 1 work

perfectly system wide & even with browsers while playing youtube videos
& streaming news but with parole the increase volume part fails.

the previous versions of buster were cool with no pre-installed media
players.

if debian has to pack in a media player in the iso, celluloid is an
excellent player i.m.o.

[Bug 1929304] [NEW] gnome archive manager fails to extract

2021-05-22 Thread ipv
Public bug reported:

problem occurs with :

a) ubuntu 20.04.2 | gnome version 3.36.8 | X11

b) fedora 34 | gnome 40.0.1 | wayland

the latest version of gnome archive manager which is 3.36.3 fails to
extract a .gz file which it used to do earlier.

here are 2 links to 2 separate versions of hard disk sentinel linux
version :

1. https://www.hdsentinel.com/hdslin/hdsentinel-018c.gz

2. https://www.hdsentinel.com/hdslin/hdsentinel-019c-x64.gz

when i try to extract both the above mentioned files by right clicking &
then extract here all i get is an empty folder with nothing extracted in
it.

if i open the gnome archive manager 3.36.3 from the applications menu &
then try to extract the 1st file hard disk sentinel version 018c the
extraction is successful.

but if i open the gnome archive manager 3.36.3 from the applications
menu & then try to extract the 2nd file hard disk sentinel version 019c
it only makes a copy of the .gz file.

the earlier version of gnome archive manager which is default / built-in the
ubuntu 20.04.2 iso
did not have this problem it is only after the update that the gnome archive
manager fails to perform.

@Dave M

please have a look here :

https://postimg.cc/CBFSWWfn

the empty check box next to the view button could may be be replaced
with an eye icon as the check box serves no purpose since it never gets
checked, just my 2 cents.

also a double click to activate feature in the clamtk gui if possible
would be wonderful.

am on version 6.02 & am being told by the gui that an update is
available so yes version 6.06 in the 'buntu repositories would be
awesome.

have a super day.

[Bug 1876497] Re: clamtk scan checks ' Show Hidden Files ' checkbox automatically

2020-08-16 Thread ipv
@Dave M

hey dave!

tried as you directed but after that the ' Scan a directory ' button in
clamtk stopped responding, so i rolled back the changes.

what needs to be done is :

01. in sub select file edit line 583 from >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden(
TRUE ); <<< to >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden( FALSE ); <<<

02. in sub select directory edit line 621 from >>>
$dialog->set_show_hidden( TRUE ); <<< to >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden(
FALSE ); <<<

the hidden files no more show up automatically in the home folder after
a scan via clamtk.

could be wrong but i guess that rectifies the issue, you would know
better.

[Bug 1875765] Re: epiphany-browser opens 2 windows instead of 1

2020-04-29 Thread ipv
just did a fresh install of 20.04 to confirm the bug.

i can surely concur that when launched from the dock epiphany-browser
open 2 windows every time instead of one.

all other apps added to the dock as favorites open only 1 window but
epiphany-browser opens 2 instances / 2 windows of the browser every
time.

when launched from the applications menu it opens only one window as it should.
it is only when launched from the dock that it opens with 2 instances.

if i launch epiphany-browser from the show applications menu layout it
opens only one window, as in one instance of the browser.

but if i launch epiphany-browser from the dock it opens two windows, as

[Bug 1865818] Re: clamav update failed - default timeout needs a bump (upstream has bumped already)

2020-03-07 Thread ipv via ubuntu-bugs
hi!

did a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04.4, updated the software & did a restart.
next i installed clamav & clamtk but clamav would not update the signatures in
the background by default as it should so i edited freshclam.conf & bumped the
default 30 second ConnectTimeout & ReceiveTimeout to 300 as shown by you & the
update was done.

just out of curiosity i did a fresh install again, did a software
update, restarted & installed clamav & clamtk.

clamav would not update the signatures in the background by default as
it should so i edited freshclam.conf but this time instead of bumping
both ConnectTimeout & ReceiveTimeout to 300 i copied from the debian
freshclam.conf & only edited the ReceiveTimeout to 0 & restarted.

after a few minutes when i checked with clamscan -V it showed me the latest
signature version with date & time as it always did before > ClamAV
0.102.2/25744/Sat Mar 7 19:46:15 2020
clamav had done the update automatically in the background.

for your reference here is =

the default ubuntu bionic 18.04.4 freshclam.conf :

https://postimg.cc/GHtX3nNZ

the default debian buster 10.3 freshclam.conf :

https://postimg.cc/RJ9QrM3p

the edited ubuntu bionic 18.04.4 freshclam.conf :

https://postimg.cc/GBRzC0m6

what i understand is that the problem is only with the 30 second default
RecieveTimeout in freshclam.conf but i guess you would know better.

please look into it & do the needful.

[Bug 1865818] Re: clamav update failed - default timeout needs a bump (upstream has bumped already)

2020-03-06 Thread ipv via ubuntu-bugs
hi christian

yes by default it should be done automatically in the background & it
used to but not since the last month now.

for the manual update i do > sudo systemctl stop clamav-freshclam > sudo
freshclam

i did this because clamtk reported signatures out of date & clamscan -V
did not give me the latest signature version with the date as it used
to.

this fix provided here solves the problem, please do have a look :

https://gitlab.com/dave_m/clamtk/issues/90

i have been with bionic ever since it was released & have had the same
internet connection but never faced this issue earlier.

the same computer, the same internet connection but with debian buster
installed clamav & clamtk have absolutely no issues.

for your reference here is my ubuntu bionic freshclam.conf :

https://postimg.cc/GHtX3nNZ

for your reference here is the debian buster freshclam.conf :

https://postimg.cc/RJ9QrM3p

i will bump the default 30 second timeout to 300 & report back.
