[Bug 1463941] [NEW] nvidia-340-updates 340.76-0ubuntu2: nvidia-340-updates kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: Upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 to 15.04. Everything seemed to be fine from 14.04 to 14.10 and then it went to garbage with 15.04. It won't even load up the low latency kernel I have to load the 'upstart' to get any desktop and a few apps I use wont work so I am going to have to do a full re install after this bug report and see what happens with a fresh install. RE: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both)
Hi I installed 14.04 before and there was no low latency kernel version, I had tested that kernel before in UBUNTU 13.10 and it would not even allow me to log in. I had previously updated via the UBUNTU update, from 12.10 to 13.04 then from 13.04 to 13.10. When I installed 14.04 from CD download .iso all my saved Y PPA back ups worked but the actual installed programs from synaptic package manager, when I tried to reinstall from the saved text file via terminal commands or synaptic package manager it failed there was such a long error message that I tried to solve by reading information online it was not fixing broken packages and just wouldn't work. So I had to re install 13.10 from iso and reinstall all my apps etc I have a rolling back up with Deja Dup on a separate drive in a partition so all my settings and files were put back, this was quite annoying and I do not know why because I have had that for so many versions of UBUNTU and reinstated the Y PPA back up and the APP installs text back with NO troubles whatsoever. All things said, I have tested the 14.04 version but again there is no low latency kernel for the newest kernel I could find and there are other people out there on forums etc asking the same question. So I am going to take it so far as I did try. Until this is completely resolved can someone please help me with this http://www.thenautilus.net/SW/xf86-input-evdev/ http://www.thenautilus.net/cgit/xf86-input-evdev/ http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Remapping_remote_control_key_codes_greater_than_255_#Key_mapping_using_event_key_remap This seems like the best shot at present it seems that keycodes only go up to 255 and anything above that won't be recognised by X so remapping scancodes to unused keycodes with this semes like the best option. BUT when I did this Now restart X (eg reboot the machine or restart gdm etc) and check that the new module is being used:grep evdev_drv /var/log/Xorg.0.logThe output should be something like:(II) Loading /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.soThis shows that the evdev driver is being loaded from /usr/local/lib, and not /usr/lib.* Then I ACTUALLY get this read out, after rebooting, and trying and then restarting lightdm from real console My terminal returns this: [24.802] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so Any help on this would be absolutely fantastic and if this driver could be built into further distributions of LINUX ie UBUNTU then this would be a good start for people being able to remap any keys they wanted to because for sure there are never any keyboards that I know of that uses all 255 keycodes and multi media keys and extra keys are renowned for being above 255 Regards, John -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1101657 Title: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1101657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
RE: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both)
As I understand this X can understand up to 255 only and XEV only shows up to 255 and that is ONLY the core of a keyboard with XEV and NOT the multi media buttons of which are above 255 on MOST keyboards. This is a HUGE problem and the best direction I can see to go OTHER than hack work arounds of which I am still trying to develop a method is X input 2 or XI2 as it allows for multi touch and also the remapping of ANY keys regardless of them being 255 or below only, you can just remap whatever you wish with what ever number to whatever function or program. This needs to be adopted fast!! Any thoughts on this matter? RE: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both)
Hi UBUNTU 13.10 - I can confirm that NO method will allow for the Microsoft 7000 keyboard zoom in zoom out to be changed to page up page down or even scroll up scroll down NOTHING works. I have had long experience with doing this and in 13.04 I got this to work and in 12.10 it worked, but 13.10 that doesn't work neither do the My Favourite Keys 1-5 all though the zoom in zoom out fader actually showed up in sudo evtest /dev/input/event5 I can confirm that UBUNTU 13.10 the Microsoft 7000 Ergonomic Keyboard's Zoom in and Zoom out does not work it will not through any method work as page up and page down as previously worked in 13.10 and 12.10 also the My Favourites buttons 1-5 still do not work. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it, any links to other posts or direct involvement. RE: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both)
Hi Upgraded to 13.10 and I think successfully filed the error report through 'apport-collect -p linux ' to this bug number etc can you check for me to confirm this was completed successfully? I updated to the 13.12 kernel but it was only the generic one available and did not work , when signing into the desktop nothing worked, not even ctrl+al+F2 etc etc then the header became a broken package so I had to remove it. Can you point me in the direction of a low latency version at all? RE: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both)
Hi Yeah I will gather everything needed to run the tests. I have everything on a daily rolling back up so I can always re install 12.10 as that has worked the longest without any re install so far so i kinda left it and was going to upgrade soon. I will get back to you directly after I have upgraded to the new version of UBUNTU and the latest kernel. At the moment I am fixing my bathroom and have no bath/shower as the floor boards have rotted and installing a new bathroom suit at the same time. so it might be a couple of weeks before i do the tests with UBUNTU Regards, John Date: Wed, 20 Nov 2013 01:12:37 + From: christopher.m.penal...@gmail.com To: j.p.hill...@hotmail.co.uk Subject: [Bug 1101657] Re: Microsoft 7000 My Favourite Keys 1-5 not working, only working on 4000 (of which I have both) j.p.hillier, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. None the less the buttons do not work on the new Wireless 7000 version and doesn't even register with sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event4 (different from the original question post, I have a different mouse plugged in at present) here are the results comparing the 2 keyboards first off the 4000 and 2nd the 7000: MS 4000 Keyboard ls -l /dev/input/by-id sudo evtest /dev/input/event4 Results --- Input driver version is 1.0.1 Input device ID: bus 0x3 vendor 0x45e product 0xdb version 0x111 Input device name: Microsoft Natural® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 Supported events: Event type 0 (EV_SYN) Event type 1 (EV_KEY) Event code 1 (KEY_ESC) Event code 2 (KEY_1) Event code 3 (KEY_2) Event code 4 (KEY_3) Event code 5 (KEY_4) Event code 6 (KEY_5) Event code 7 (KEY_6) Event code 8 (KEY_7) Event code 9 (KEY_8) Event code 10 (KEY_9) Event code 11 (KEY_0) Event code 12 (KEY_MINUS) Event code 13 (KEY_EQUAL) Event code 14 (KEY_BACKSPACE) Event code 15 (KEY_TAB) Event code 16 (KEY_Q) Event code 17 (KEY_W) Event code 18 (KEY_E) Event code 19 (KEY_R) Event code 20 (KEY_T) Event code 21 (KEY_Y) Event code 22 (KEY_U) Event code 23 (KEY_I) Event code 24 (KEY_O) Event code 25 (KEY_P) Event code 26 (KEY_LEFTBRACE) Event code 27 (KEY_RIGHTBRACE) Event code 28 (KEY_ENTER) Event code 29 (KEY_LEFTCTRL) Event code 30 (KEY_A) Event code 31 (KEY_S) Event code 32 (KEY_D) Event code 33 (KEY_F) Event code 34 (KEY_G) Event code 35 (KEY_H) Event code 36 (KEY_J) Event code 37 (KEY_K) Event code 38 (KEY_L) Event code 39 (KEY_SEMICOLON) Event code 40 (KEY_APOSTROPHE) Event code 41 (KEY_GRAVE) Event code 42 (KEY_LEFTSHIFT) Event code 43 (KEY_BACKSLASH) Event code 44 (KEY_Z) Event code 45 (KEY_X) Event code 46 (KEY_C) Event code 47 (KEY_V) Event code 48 (KEY_B) Event code 49 (KEY_N) Event code 50 (KEY_M) Event code 51 (KEY_COMMA) Event code 52 (KEY_DOT) Event code 53 (KEY_SLASH) Event code 54 (KEY_RIGHTSHIFT) Event code 55 (KEY_KPASTERISK) Event code 56 (KEY_LEFTALT) Event code 57 (KEY_SPACE) Event code 58 (KEY_CAPSLOCK) Event code 59 (KEY_F1) Event code 60 (KEY_F2) Event code 61 (KEY_F3) Event code 62 (KEY_F4) Event code 63 (KEY_F5) Event code 64 (KEY_F6) Event code 65 (KEY_F7) Event code 66 (KEY_F8) Event code 67 (KEY_F9) Event code 68 (KEY_F10) Event code 69 (KEY_NUMLOCK) Event code 70 (KEY_SCROLLLOCK) Event code 71 (KEY_KP7) Event code 72 (KEY_KP8) Event code 73 (KEY_KP9) Event code 74 (KEY_KPMINUS) Event code 75 (KEY_KP4) Event code 76 (KEY_KP5) Event code 77 (KEY_KP6) Event code 78 (KEY_KPPLUS) Event code 79 (KEY_KP1) Event code 80 (KEY_KP2) Event code 81 (KEY_KP3) Event code 82 (KEY_KP0) Event code 83 (KEY_KPDOT) Event code 85 (KEY_ZENKAKUHANKAKU) Event code 86 (KEY_102ND) Event code 87 (KEY_F11) Event code 88 (KEY_F12) Event code 89 (KEY_RO) Event code 90 (KEY_KATAKANA) Event code 91 (KEY_HIRAGANA) Event code 92 (KEY_HENKAN) Event code 93 (KEY_KATAKANAHIRAGANA) Event code 94 (KEY_MUHENKAN) Event code 95 (KEY_KPJPCOMMA) Event code 96 (KEY_KPENTER) Event code 97 (KEY_RIGHTCTRL) Event code 98 (KEY_KPSLASH) Event code 99 (KEY_SYSRQ) Event code 100 (KEY_RIGHTALT) Event code 102 (KEY_HOME) Event code 103 (KEY_UP) Event code 104 (KEY_PAGEUP) Event code 105 (KEY_LEFT) Event code 106 (KEY_RIGHT) Event code 107 (KEY_END) Event code 108 (KEY_DOWN) Event code 109 (KEY_PAGEDOWN) Event code 110 (KEY_INSERT) Event code 111 (KEY_DELETE) Event code 113 (KEY_MUTE) Event code 114 (KEY_VOLUMEDOWN) Event code 115 (KEY_VOLUMEUP) Event code 116 (KEY_POWER) Event code 117 (KEY_KPEQUAL)
