[Bug 1971715] Re: 22.04 idn -a domain.com idn: could not convert from ASCII to UTF-8

2022-05-06 Thread Jaap Marcus
For conversion backwards use idn2 -d domain.com

How ever it doesn't stop why it doesn't work for idn package it self

[Bug 1971715] [NEW] 22.04 idn -a domain.com idn: could not convert from ASCII to UTF-8

2022-05-05 Thread Jaap Marcus
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy:

idn -a "xxx-tést.eu"
idn: could not convert from ASCII to UTF-8

And

idn -u "xn--xxx-tst-fya.eu"
idn: could not convert from UTF-8 to ASCII

Expected:
Successfully conversion from ASCII to UTF-8

Ubuntu 20.04 / 18.04 it works fine

Also with idn2 from UTF-8 to ASCII works as expected how ever support
lacks from ASCII to UTF-8

[Bug 1859948] [NEW] behaviour matrix depends on how it is created

2020-01-16 Thread Jaap Woldringh
Public bug reported:

In Python3 (and in Python2) the behaviour of a matrix depends on how it is
created. If elements are assigned directly, it behaves as it should, but if a
row is created and then several of these rows are appended to the matrix, this
matrix misbehaves, even when it appears to be the same matrix as the first one.
I have added a .py program that shows the bug: codevierkant_experiment.py.
The same happens in Python2, and also in the newer Python3 in Ubuntu 19.10

[Bug 1800465] Re: Vulkan error when using NVIDIA-Prime

2018-11-27 Thread Jaap Buurman
"I solved this just putting nvidia-drm.modeset=0 option into my grub
config."

I can confirm that this also solves the issue for me. Are there any
drawbacks to use this kernel parameter? I have tried googling around,
but I am still not sure what is actually does. And I am even more
curious how this solves the issue at hand.

[Bug 843431] Re: Logitech camera microphone does not work / makes "chipmunk" sound

A hint: I switched from a USB 3.0 to one of the few USB 2.0 ports I
still have... and magically the issue disappears. Can this really be
related to the use of a USB 3.0 port?

I made a recording with pulseaudio and slowed down the speed by a factor
3 (tempo x 0,333) then on playback the sound seems to be normal.

Maybe this factor 3 is a helpful information to track down the bug for
some experienced programmer in that area.

Prepend the following line — it must be the first line in the file:

[Bug 1582696] [NEW] chkdisk didn't report any errors. Request new advise. JP

2016-05-17 Thread Jaap Poot
Public bug reported:

Was advised to check the hard drive with checkdisk in DOS. No errors to report
but the installation bug is still there.
Ubuntu files are installed on the harddrive, but no bootloader. Windows loader
still reports only Windows 10 as operating system.

What next?

Re: [Bug 1573923] [NEW] Spellchecker plugin not working in 16.04 (gtkspell not recognized)

2016-04-23 Thread Jaap Karssenberg
To verify the install. You can try running python and then "import
gtkspell". If this runs without error, zim should be able to use it as
well. If it gives an error, zim will also not be able to use it.

Btw. make sure python packages are for python 2, not python 3.

Regards,

Jaap

[Bug 1568211] Re: no UMS support in radeon module

2016-04-22 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I have a computer with AMD A8-6600K APU processor with a module Radeon
HD Graphics (HD 8570D)

Booting a new Ubuntu 16.04 from a LiveDVD the monitor receives no
signal and apparently nothing happens, except the running of the DVD-
player.

However, booting with the option Nomodeset is successful, only a message
shows up that no UMS support is present in the Radeon module.

I am not sure this IS a bug, reading
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item=MTI2ODA
(if I am not expected to provide links, please excuse me)

[Bug 1325801] Re: failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R Image boot:

I have to withdraw my comment in my previous post, that installing from a DVD
doesn't help either.
I think that this is another bug, not related to the one we are talking about
here.
On another computer the computer boots nicely from this DVD.

[Bug 1325801] Re: failed to boot from USB disk with error: gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R Image boot:

2016-04-22 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I can confirm that I experience this same problem, after trying to boot
Ubuntu 16.04 from a usb-stick, which I created on an Ubuntu 14.04
system. Pressing TAB and selecting live from the menu doesn't help.

So I think that sudodus is right.

I guess I have to wait for an update for my 14.04 system, before I can
use it to create a working usb stick.

Installing from a DVD doesn't help either.

The newest usb-creator-gtk in the repositories is 0.2.56.3, which was
probably used when creating my usb stick.

[Bug 1562511] Re: No words in articles after importing notebook

Afraid this is not supported. The import function does not support HTML.

[Bug 1314924] Re: Adressbox Entries unreadable: Grey/Black Mask overlaying text

2015-08-18 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I repeat this comment here, as I saw tool late that the other place
(1316250) was not the correct place (sorry for this):

I had this bug and fixed it as in comment #11.
This was fine, on a Pentium M Toshiba laptop, using Lubuntu 14.04.

However, after the latest update of Firefox (40.0) Firefox stops loading
before the URL-bar appears, and pages can be loaded. Just the main frame
appears, with the heading with the name of the start page.

I found the setting gfx.xrender.enabled to False is the culprit, so I
had to undo this setting.

So: now what should I do?

Hi.

FYI This exact problem now appears to have returned in Ubuntu 14.04. I

start the network, indicating

Can't load firmware file bnx2/bnx2-mips-06-6.2.3.fw

I am going to swap it for an Intel NIC.

[Bug 1433499] [NEW] Red squiggly lines are rendered in inverted colors

2015-03-18 Thread Jaap
Public bug reported:

The problem: Red squiggly lines are rendered in inverted colors, making the
above text hard to read.
I expected to see: a red squiggly line, under black text on a white background.
I saw: a blue squiggly line, on a black background and partially white letter
(a block where all colors are inverted)

The issue is not client specific - I encounter it on all machines I
connect to.

As you can see in the attached screenshot the red on white squiggly
lines show as blue on black (inverted). When connecting to the same
machine using the windows RDP client the line is rendered as
expected(red on white).

[Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)

2014-09-24 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I want to report that after the latest update, containing a new kernel,
3.13.0-36-generic, this problem seems to be fixed for me.
Thanks to who have found and applied this solution to this problem. My new
computer now works flawlessly with Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS :), which is really great

[Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)

2014-09-14 Thread Jaap Woldringh
Adding to my report in #4, I discovered that the shutdown behaviour of my
computer changed by replacing the open source X.orgX graphics driver
(xserver-xorg-video-ati) by the nonfree driver called Video driver for the
AMD graphics accelerator of fglrx-updates. The other non free driver (without
the addition updates did not change things.
Now the system doesn't reboot after shutdown, but the shutdown halts halfway, I
guess after the hard disk stops rotating (noise stops), but the cooling
ventilators still run.

The graphics card is embedded in the AMD-processor, and is called
AMD/ATI: Richland [ Radeon HD 8570D]

This is an improvement, but it is still not how things should be, of
course, but might indicate where to seek.

[Bug 1346269] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 won't shut down (reboots)

2014-09-13 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I can support this bug report. For my (very new) computer details see
attachment (lshw.txt)
I currently use Linux x 3.13.0-35-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 15
01:58:42 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

In /etc/default/grub I have the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi=off

Symptoms: without the acpi=off parameter the computer used to reboot
repeatedly. With acpi=off it boots OK, but reboots spontaneously
after shutdown, and the computer must be powered off using the power
switch.

Trying the most recent upstream kernel ( 3.12.28, I guess compiled 9th
of september) the computer boots OK, even without acpi=off and but
during shutdown, after showing 2 red dots of the 5, first time. The
computer has to be switched off using the power button. So another
behaviour, but still it is not OK.

I also tried a LiveCD with Ubuntu 12.04.1 (Precise), this was quite OK (only no
sound, on this very new hardware)
Same with LiveDVD with Ubuntu 12.4.5 (Precise, the latest), this behaved same
as the 14.4.1 LiveDVD

So the bug entered somewher between Ubuntu 12.04.1 and 12.04.5

Hope this helps, adding 50% to the people affected ...

Greetings,

Jaap Woldringh

What might help for this kind of cases is to first run zim --index after
pulling in the repository. That way the index is rebuilt, and the GUI will

If so I understand - the process hangs because it is calling itself .. will

open another notebook dialog, then you click in the list the exact same
notebook to open -- correct ?

 Hello Jaap.

My workstation is a RedHat 5.3 and therefore quite old. There is only
python 2.4, cannot do much about it now.

I've started zim from another noebook and set the DISPLAY to my
workstation. So, that other notebook handles all about zim, but
just the X11 display is somewhere else.

I've also tried to get python 2.6 from our IT department up and
running for RHE 5.3, because there are quite a few of them
for reasons and it surely would pay off. Then I can start zim
 directly from teh workstation.

By the way, most if not all python programs start with
 #!/usr/bin/python

presuming that there is a new python version. This may be
not true. Of course you can alwaas start zim by
 /path_to_new_python/python zim.py

Or, consider to let PATH decide what python should be taken:
 #!/bin/env python

Jaap, forgive me if I misunderstand, but does this only add an inline

This will be search which means finding other pages. Searching
inside the current page is called Find. (Don't hit me about it -
this is standard jargon from the interface guide.)

So this patch adds a search box in the upper right of the screen, what
seems to be the standard location now for many browsers and similar
application. Entering some text and hit Enter will pop up the search
dialog with results.

[Bug 134736] Re: Integrate search in the side pane

2013-02-18 Thread Jaap Karssenberg
Code below can be added in zim/gui/__init__.py just below the call
self.uimanager.ensure_update() (around line 540) and will add a search
entry in the toolbar. In my mind this removes the need for adding search
to the side pane, but open to suggestions.

###
space = gtk.SeparatorToolItem()
space.set_draw(False)
space.set_expand(True)
self.mainwindow.toolbar.insert(space, -1)

def inline_search(entry, *a):
text = entry.get_text()
if text:
self.show_search(text)

from zim.gui.widgets import InputEntry
entry = InputEntry()
if gtk.gtk_version = (2, 16):
entry.set_icon_from_stock(gtk.ENTRY_ICON_SECONDARY,
gtk.STOCK_FIND)
entry.set_icon_activatable(gtk.ENTRY_ICON_SECONDARY,
True)
entry.set_icon_tooltip_text(gtk.ENTRY_ICON_SECONDARY,
_('Search Pages...'))
# FIXME would be nice to have function to set Search as grey
background
#entry.set_icon_to_clear()
entry.connect('activate', inline_search)
entry.connect('icon-release', inline_search)
entry.show()
item = gtk.ToolItem()
item.add(entry)
self.mainwindow.toolbar.insert(item, -1)

iter for the invalid tuple. When another child is used, the treepath

When the moved page isn't displayed, the critical treeview line isn't
 touched in the problematic update.

OK, the fact that it needs to be the last page in a sub-tree is
probably the reason why I was not able to reproduce before.

May need a deeper fix by tracing where the wrong index comes from.
Either the select_page should not happen for a non-existing page, or
at least it should not find a treepath for this page...

Your patch at least will stop the exceptions and resulting bug reports

* /usr/share/applications/zim.desktop exists
* it correctly lists application/x-zim-notebook
* it is index, the same mimetype shows in /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
* in nautilus the properties of the zim.notebook file show the same mimetype
* double clicking in nautilus goes to a text editor

Expected:
* double clicking in nautilus opens zim

Additional notes:
* xdg-mime query filetype also gives the correct mimetype
* xdg-open again opens in text editor (wrong) -- probably uses gnome component
* gnome-open also goes to text editor (wrong)
* mimeopen does open the file with zim (correct)

So think this bug should be assigned to proper Gnome component - not
sure which project that would be.

[Bug 930447] Re: Unable to Install Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to PAE kernel

2012-05-02 Thread Jaap Woldringh
I am downloading the non-pae .iso, mentioned in # 69, by luizluca,
thanks to him for that :) Hope it works.

I want to react to this bug report, without having read all comments
(sorry for that) to cast another vote for non pae kernels. My Toshiba
A50 laptop has an Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz processor, and is still a very
fine laptop, which it would be very much a pity to have to ditch.

I guess there must be quite a number of 32 bit i686 systems around in
the world (also in less prosperous places) , that have less than 3 GiB
RAM, and which do not need pae at all, which would also slow them down
by up to 10%.

Technically I should find the original bug and flag this one as
duplicate, but I guess people ending up here will see the comment with

[Bug 915037] Re: zim crashed with ValueError in select_page(): invalid tree path

Dan, Jane,

What version are we talking about ? Original report is about 0.54 but I
believe behavior of 0.55 should differ. If you still see it under 0.55
please post the error trace for that version.

Error handling for this type of error has been improved already in zim
0.53, it gives an error dialog that explains the issue and des not block
the whole notebook.

So flagging this bug as invalid.

encoded, but in a different encoding. Can you check the content ?

Re: [Bug 927970] Re: zim crashed with OSError in call(): [Errno 32] Broken pipe

2012-02-07 Thread Jaap Karssenberg
Not sure how the restore works but I do know how zim works.

Zim has a daemon process, which controls a number of child processes
through a pipe. The stack trace shows an error in the daemon process
when writing to a pipe. Suggests the child process died without
letting the daemon know by sending SIGCHILD.
