[Bug 231541] [NEW] totem does nut fully uninstall, leaves symlinks and totem-gstreamer

2008-05-18 Thread jamx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Removing totem and installing totem-xine does not result in removing the
totem that cannot play DVD's and replace it with the one that can.

Steps to reproduce:
- Install Hardy 8.04
- Remove totem
- Install totem-xine

The file /usr/bin/totem still exists, it's a symlink to
/etc/alternatives/totem. The file /etc/alternatives/totem is a symlink
to /usr/bin/totem-gstreamer. The totem-gstreamer package is not removed.

What seems like the desired behaviour to me:
- Removing totem means: remove these symlinks and totem-gstreamer should be
removed
- Installing totem-xine means: if totem is not installed, install totem-xine in
the gnome menu ( and maybe set as default player for some media types)

** Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 154181] login screen fails to show

2007-10-18 Thread jamx
Public bug reported:

The following issue has started since upgrade from feisty to gutsy
gibbon:

After GRUB, the screen goes black and nothing shows up. The harddisk
seems to be active, so i assume it's booting. But nothing will show up,
this black screen stays.

The workaround i've found is to use ALT-F1 to go to console 1, which
shows up immediately. Then by pressing ALT-F7 the gdm login screen shows
up within ~3 sec. This also confirms my assumption that it does boot in
the background. From the gdm login screen, everything seems to work
correct.

I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-A115Z notebook, dmesg output:

[Bug 95895] Synaptic usability problems

2007-03-25 Thread jamx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

In edgy and Feisty beta there is a usability problem with Synaptic
packet manager.

- When you search for a packet using the GUI, it completely freezes untill the
search is done (no threads ?).
- When you install packages, the install popup window tries to get attention
even when you are using other programs. So when you are using Firefox for
example, and the downloading of the new packages is finished, the install
window jumps in front of you.

I personally experience both problems as rather annoying

[Bug 83295] DVD drive spins at too high speed

2007-02-04 Thread jamx
Public bug reported:

During a DVD movie playback (on gxine, but dont think the problem is
related to just this application) on my sony vaio notebook, the DVD
drive spins at full speed whole time. This causes a lot of noise, which
is pretty annoying while watching a movie. On other OS (*blush* *shame*
like windows *hides*) it just spins at a very low speed on this
notebook, making DVD playback much more fun.
