But I have to say that I still have no sound from the external speaker
on my Toshiba nb200

I've tried the 2.6.32-rc5 mainline kernel and the issue keeps,
There is sound from the headphone jack and the internal mic even works
fine(tested with skype), just the external speaker still fails..

Here on my nb200 also I have not had sound from internal speaker working
(it does work with OSS4) the headphonejack an internal speaker work
(tested with skype)
I tested:
2.6.31-6-generic
2.6.31-10-generic
2.6.31-14-generic
2.6.32-020632rc5-generic
And they all have the same non working
You sure you used alsamixer to cranck up the recording level?
