[Bug 27463] Re: [needs-packaging] 389 Directory Server for Ubuntu

2012-03-03 Thread justinchudgar
We should package the LdapImport script from
http://wiki.babel.com.au/index.php?area=Linux_Projectspage=LdapImport#toc1
as it is one of the Fedora recommended tools to migrate from other LDAP
servers or /etc/passwd files. I've tested it importing from
/etc/passwd|shadow|group and it works very well with 389.

If it is already done, doh! If you want me to do it, let me know. Seems that in
addition to the script files, the following are necessary:
- libnet-ldap-perl, libnet-dns-perl, liblog-log4perl-perl, liblog-dispatch-perl

Re: [Bug 425808] Re: Extension Manager Fails to Add New Extensions

2009-09-08 Thread justinchudgar
I tried the Report Builder and Lorem Ipsum extensions as well as a couple
random ones that I do not recall from:
  http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/

The one that is really important for me at the moment, though, is Zotero's OO.o
integration extension from:
  http://www.zotero.org/download/integration/OOo-Plugin-2.0a2/Zotero.oxt

I have attempted to install it running as a normal user (UID=1000) and as
root. In both cases, the error was as initially reported. Unzipping the .oxt
files shoes that the extension binaries look sane and uncorrupted.

I seems that the extension manager is somehow mangling the file descriptor,
though this is an uneducated guess. Thanks.

I do not know if it showed up in the bug report, but I am running a KDE

picker,
and I cannot determine how to go back to the soffice picker this might be an

[Bug 425808] [NEW] Extension Manager Fails to Add New Extensions

2009-09-07 Thread justinchudgar
Public bug reported:

When attempting to add a new extension through the Extension Manager, I
invariably get a failure with the message:

- The operation on file: */*.oxt was started with an invalid
parameter. (Screenshot attached.)

This has happened with about four different extensions on versions
1:3.1.1-1ubuntu2 and 1:3.1.1-1ubuntu1. This was not a problem with
openoffice.org 3.0.

I do not have a debug build so I am unable to provide more significant
data about the cause of the error. Please inform me of any useful
debugging strategies.

[Bug 384167] Re: [P4M900][HP 2133] wl module causes hard lock

2009-08-10 Thread justinchudgar
As of kernels 2.6.31-4 and 2.6.31-5, the bug reappears. I hope that the
patch can be integrated into the relevant binary .debs so that upgrades
will not cause unpleasant regressions.

I am unsure what patch I should apply, please advise. I am using the most
current karmic kernel with

Woo! Hoo! Hunk 1 of the patch failed, but hunk 2 applied. With the

Thank you very much. One of the things I love most about Ubuntu and FOSS

Will this likely be included in the standard Ubuntu packages or will HP

As one would expect, removing viarng from /etc/modules means that
libgcrypt11 and its dependencies like svn and cupsd work. Since this is
a regression, it would be nice to find a fix, but the work-around is not
that painful. It will catch anyone with VIA hardware by surprise during
the karmic upgrade, though.

[Bug 389053] [NEW] libgcrypt11 version 1.4.4-2ubuntu1 causes stack smashing

2009-06-18 Thread justinchudgar
Public bug reported:

It seems that anything that uses libgcrypt, like cupsd, svn, etc. is
terminated at launch because stack smashing is detected in libgcrypt11.
This occurs with the karmic version 1.4.4-2ubuntu1 but not with the
jaunty version 1.4.1. However, forcing 1.4.1 breaks all kind of
dependencies so this is not a viable option for a karmic user.

Here is a sample of the output when trying to use svn:

jus...@justin-mininote:~/src$ svn checkout http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk
openchrome
*** stack smashing detected ***: svn terminated

I do not know who manages PyQt4 and SIP, but, this bug was getting
buried. I apologize if I overstepped my bounds making this change.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 355918 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355918

I do not believe that this is a duplicate. I have not had the same
screen resolution problems observed in 355918. Instead my system is
inoperable, completely locked if both openchrome and bcmwl are loaded
together.

Thank you.

[Bug 335898] Re: cupsd: Child exited on signal 6

2009-06-13 Thread justinchudgar
Well, it turns out that there is not apparmor kernel module on my
system. Running 2.6.30-9-generic at the moment. This would be why the
apparmor init script fails and why aa-complain also fails.

Could someone tell me what package provides apparmor? I had assumed it
was part of the normal ***-generic kernel packages.

2009-06-10 Thread justinchudgar
Well, I remembered that I have disabled the WLAN (BCM4312) via BIOS so
that I can use my computer. So, to get you a version that shows the bug,
I re-enabled WLAN and rebooted. The system hard-locked as expected. I
powered off manually and, after disbabling the WLAN controller, I am
attaching Xorg.1.log which shows where the lock occurs. I hope this
helps.

[Bug 384167] Re: [HP 2133] wl module causes hard lock

2009-06-10 Thread justinchudgar
FWIW, Andrew Aylett's patched openchrome module did not resolve the
problem for me. You can find his patch at https://launchpad.net/~andrew-
aylett/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/608672/+listing-archive-extra .

In addition to disabling the WLAN device in BIOS, I can also boot into
single user mode, modprobe -r wl; modprobe -r ssb and then continue
booting and avoid the hard lock.

This problem looks superficially similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331952 however, that bug references the
Jaunty kernel not the Karmic one.

It seems like the wl module and the openchrome module are stomping on
each-others toes; but, I am not sophisticated enough to debug their
operations. For those of us on the Mininote 2133 platform, this is a
killer bug, since netbooks without WiFi lose much of their appeal.

[Bug 335898] Re: cupsd: Child exited on signal 6!

2009-06-10 Thread justinchudgar
This started, for me, after an upgrade to Karmic. When I try the
apparmor fix, I get the following:

r...@justin-mininote:~# aa-complain cupsd
Setting /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd to complain mode.
Warning: unable to find a suitable fs in /proc/mounts, is it mounted?
Use --subdomainfs to override.

The subdomainfs switch does not help. When looking through the syslog, I
see that apparmor fails to start. Why this should affect cups, I know
not. However, cups is critical to me. Apparmor I'll risk living without
if need be.

[Bug 384167] [NEW] wl module causes hard lock

2009-06-05 Thread justinchudgar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bcmwl-kernel-source

Using the latest, as of now, version of dkms and bcmwl-kernel-source,
the wl module builds seemingly find. Doing a depmod -a and update-
initramfs cycle, the module loads on boot; the laptop (HP Mininote 2133)
WiFi light transitions to blue indicating that the driver loaded.

Upon kdm starting up, however, the entire system hard locks. The three finger
salute does nothing, nor does ALT-PRTSCR
N+(REISUB). The only way to recover is to force a power cycle.

Making things even more wierd, this is very repeatable; however, if one
keeps the cursor moving continuously using the integrated Synaptics
touchpad while kdm/X11 are loading, the system boots without locking.

In this latter case, the eth1 wireless interface shows in the logs, but
any attempt to interact with it, e.g. iwconfig, causes an immediate hard
lock.

This particular BCM4312 device worked well with ndiswrapper through
hardy and with the wl module in LRM in intrepid. It never worked with
the Jaunty kernels; which motivated my upgrade to karmic. Unfortunately,
it still does not work. Being a laptop, this is a serious regression.

Note that with the Jaunty and Karmic kernels, neither wl, nor
ndiswrapper, nor b43 work. With Intrepid and earlier, I used the VIA
modules for the Chrome9HC video. For the Jaunty and Karmic kernels, this
is not available from VIAarena, so I am using the openchrome module that
ships with Ubuntu.

Let me know how I can help as this is driving me (more) bonkers (than
normal :)).

Re: [Bug 39078] Re: gnome-cups-add causes cupsd/cups-driverd to spin forever

2009-03-25 Thread justinchudgar
/usr/share/ppd is where the PPDs are located for me.

And, sorry, by removing the recursive symlinks, I no longer have this issue.
It was pretty straightforward, as I remember. In /usr/share/ppd/foo/bar there
would be a link to /usr/share/ppd/foo.

When the update script ran, it would recursively add
/usr/share/ppd/foo/bar/foo[/bar/foo/bar...] which is why the process
seemed to hang.

I have no idea at what point in time these links were created, only that I did
not do so myself. On this system, I started with a fresh install of Hardy and
dist-upgraded to Intrepid.

Sorry I cannot be more informative.

2009-02-26 Thread justinchudgar
I am experiencing this issue on a server running Intrepid. Using the
CUPS web interface to add a printer triggers a seemingly endless wait
with cups-driverd using all available CPU cycles. So far I have let it
run for over two hours and twenty minutes. Admittedly, this is an old
box (PIII-500/512MB) being used as a home server; but, this is f...@#$ing
ridiculous.

I cannot use what was a functional print server because of this issue.

[Bug 39078] Re: gnome-cups-add causes cupsd/cups-driverd to spin forever

2009-02-26 Thread justinchudgar
ran 'cups-driverd list 1 0 name=' and found where the process hangs.
cups-driverd churns through PPDs at a rate of several per second until
it hits this point

DEBUG: [cups-driverd] Adding ppd
lsb/opt/hpijs/HP/HP-OfficeJet_Series_580-hpijs.ppd...

there is near total CPU utilization and no progress after the d4300 PPD.

[Bug 39078] Re: gnome-cups-add causes cupsd/cups-driverd to spin forever

2009-02-26 Thread justinchudgar
Resolved the issue by deleting the ppd cache. Apparently there were
recursive symlinks in the ppd directory which had caused an over 81k
ppds to be cached. I do not know how this came to be; but, somewhere in
the various and sundry upgrades it happened.

[Bug 66675] Re: glxinfo crashed, running nvidia-glx and xinerama

2006-10-24 Thread justinchudgar
Please take this report with a grain of salt...

I installed the legacy nvidia drivers, not the normal package. Once I
changed to the normal package everything was fine.

Sorry to waste your time.

iLinux justin01 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 18:45:35 UTC 2006

I'm running Edgy with the latest upgrades installed. I just added an old
nVidia geForce 5200 fx PCI w/ dual vga and setup for xinerama without
twinview.

[Bug 33269] Re: root filesystem fails to mount (sata_nv module is loaded)

2006-08-24 Thread justinchudgar
I am having a very similar problem. I am using a Pentium D 805 dual core
on a ECS RC410L/800-Mv2.0, 3 IDE HDDs, 0 SATA devices, 1 IDE HDD. I have
tried installing from both the 6.06 alternate install CD and the 6.06
desktop CD. In either case, the system works fine, but with only 1 CPU
used. When I apt-get install linux-image-smp (and the associated
restricted modules), the system will begin to boot, but stop at
mounting root file system... and never respond again, even after long
(multiple hour) waits.

I can boot back into the 386 uniprocessor kernel just fine, so it does
not prevent me from using the system. I then tried doing a dist-upgrade
to edgy; and, this also works with the default UP 386 kernel. But, apt-
get'ing the 686 smp kernel again stops at the same place.

I tried using kpkg to build my own kernel and, again, had the same
failure. I have tried dpkg-reconfigure udev before rebooting into the
new kernel, to no avail.

Following is the dmesg output:
