** Description changed: Hi, I use Ubuntu 20.04 LTS version in my VivoBook 15_ASUS Laptop X507UF. I live in a remote area where the only option for Internet is my cell phones network data. I use this mobile internet via Wi-Fi connection. The problem is, if I do not start the mobile Personal Hotspot before starting my laptop the internet connection via Wi-Fi does not work. The Wi-Fi network icon on top right corner comes with a question mark in the middle. The Internet does not come even after I restart the NetworkManager. I get the Internet connection only after I restart my laptop. That means, 1. At first I have to enable Personal Hotspot from my mobile and then 2. I have to start my laptop. Not the other way around. Some times I forget this and I need to restart my laptop over again to get the Internet Connection. I believe this is a bug in the Wi-Fi connection module and also in - NetworkManager. + NetworkManager. I mean restarting the NetworkManager should do the job + instead of restarting the whole laptop. [Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
May be I was too rude in my previous comment. But this is actually as simple as selecting the right mode while booting up your machine. In ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 the selection window ware coming while installation. In ubuntu 18.04 you need to select it manually while booting up. The process is explained here in a very simple manner. https://abcsofubuntu.blogspot.com/2018/05/bootup-your-machine-from- bootable-usb-device-in-right-mode.html Yes, this is a bug if you say so. Or, may be intentionally removal of a fetcher for some reason. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767703 Title: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1767703/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
True. I faced the same problems at first. Anyway, a Linux user should be a little more advanced. And as because we do not have the possibility to get the fixed version very soon, we as a user should try to learn a bit more. Yes, I have realized later that it is a bug and also an user fault. I agree. #OE -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767703 Title: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1767703/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
Is this really a bug? In my opinion it is not. This is just a user fault. The solution of this problem relies on two basic steps. At first you need to create your Ubuntu 18.04 bootable flash drive correctly. And secondly, you need to bootup you machine using the bootable flash drive in the correct mode (UEFI/CSM/Legacy BIOS). When your system is MBR Partitioned with legacy BIOS and you try to install Ubuntu in UEFI mode, failure of the installation process is natural.
