Most error messages in the beginning of a puppet run are replaced with
undefined method `closed?' for nil:NilClass. It should display the
real error message instead of that error.

As outlined by Stig in comment #1, the actual code using libshadow-
ruby1.8 is shipped in puppet-common. Thus puppet-common needs to depend
on libshadow-ruby1.8.

Partial Workaround:
ethtool says that the card is MDI-X instead of MDI. Typing ethtool -s eth0
autoneg off fixes the problem until next reboot. I do need to restart
networking and network-manager to get a ip afterwords though.
I put this in /etc/rc.local as a workaround, but I'd really like a

I'm not having any trouble in Karmic. This might be fixed.
If it's not fixed:
What about making the puppet (the package) not start puppet (the service) by
default. Then create a package that depends on puppet called puppet-client
that does everything the client option should do? I install
1) I upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10.
2) I checked for new updates with Synaptic Package Manager.
3) It found 3 and I installed them.
4) During the update or right afterword, Synaptic Package Manager crashed.
