[Bug 1513229] [NEW] additional drivers fails to properly install nvidia driver

2015-11-04 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

After experiencing display errors with 352 (default at install), I used
additional drivers to test the 340 driver.

After reboot, the screen resolution was maximum 800 x 600. After
reverting back to 352, remained at 800 x 600.

Normal/expected screen resolution is 2560 x 1600.

Running sudo nvidia-xconfig made no difference.

Running gksudo nvidia-settings presented and unrecognizable nivida-
settngs screen.

Copying a working xorg.conf file from another dist on this computer
changed the resolution to 1280 × 960

History: This was a standard basic installation of Xubuntu 15.04

a HP LP3065 2560x1600 monitor. The xorg.conf used from working
distribution is attached. The xorg.conf generated by "nvidia-xconf
-sli=Auto" is attached as xorg.conf.backup.

[Bug 1334864] [NEW] boinc-manager 7.2.42+gfsg-1 brick 14.04 new clean install

2014-06-26 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

New clean fully updated xubuntu 14.04 x64 install.

Attempted BOINC Manager intall from Ububntu Software Manager.

During instal, screen blanked, monitor turned off, system became
completely unresponsive.

Remote login failed.

On reboot, system again became unresponsive.

Log in from another linux distro, logs showed segfault.

Threw in towel, re-installed.

I expected the installation to complete at least without brickeing the
system.

What happened, system bricked.

[Bug 1295776] Re: usb mic stops after few seconds

2014-04-01 Thread keepitsimpleengr
To reproduce:
① Plug in USB mic (AK5370) unmuted at mic
② Select Input devices tab on Volume control (PAVC).
③ Observe volume bar for mic move for a few seconds in response to audible
input, then stops.

Other: mic is used exclusively for Skype. Fortunately the computer also
boots Win7x64 so I did not lose the ability to use Skype.

[Bug 1295776] [NEW] usb mic stops after few seconds

2014-03-21 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

Logitech AK5370 USB microphone works for a few seconds, then go mute, as
seen from PAVU.

Unplugging and repluging will cause the mic to be recognized again for a
few seconds.

This is new behavior, although I recall similar problem years ago.

[Bug 1205090] [NEW] USB microphone quits working after a few seconds

2013-07-25 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

On my Mythbuntu 12.04.2 HTPC, my USB microphone (Logitech AK5370) works
for a few seconds, then stops producing signal from audio input. The
system recognizes it there, it just stays mute. This happens on all USB
ports. It has worked fine for months.

I`m confident it's not the hardware because the microphone works fine
with Win7 and also on other computers.

Re-install of Mythbuntu is impracticable.

--
I tried the fix in [this question][1] (changing gstreamer settings) but it
didn't work.

After every change, the mic would work as seen on Pulse Audio Volume
Control for a few seconds, then the level on the level caught at the
few seconds when it stopped working.

I installed Audacity to monitor the microphone's input level.

With the settings ALSA default AK5370:USB Audio (hw:1,0): Line 0 the
level meter shows the mic working.

[Bug 1002641] Re: after upgrade to 12.04 amd64 Gnome Classic not properly draw second screen

2013-04-25 Thread keepitsimpleengr
As far as I can tell, the problem lies with the implementation of Unity,
with Unity taking preference over Compiz. It's pretty clear that this
is not going to change. One solution is to move to another distro.

[Bug 1002641] Re: after upgrade to 12.04 amd64 Gnome Classic not properly draw second screen

2013-02-28 Thread keepitsimpleengr
This problem appears to be the result of Ubuntu's adoption of Unity,
which contradicts the use of Compiz and a 2nd screen. Not mentioned in
the release notes and denied by developers, there seems to be an
abandonment of support for this feature. The only workaround is to
abandon Ubuntu when this is desired or required. I found limited
success with Xubuntu to use (I have several projects that require
Ubuntu). To get 2nd screen Compiz functionality I have moved to another
distro, ArchLinux, but this requires a higher level of administration
than Ubuntu. I still have my beloved, beautiful and functional Ubuntu
10.10 LTS

[Bug 779482] Re: [needs-packaging] M2VRequantiser

Are not Mythbuntu's releases only in conjunction with Ubuntu's LTS

the package in Quantal's repository moot for Mythbuntu? Thus how can

[Bug 1027160] [NEW] update-grub produces grub.cfg that fails to boot linux

2012-07-20 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

I run three Linux systems (and two windows systems) on one computer.

When running 12.04 Xubuntu, update-grub fails to produce one of the
Linux menu entries because os-prober (1.51) fails to find it.

When running 10.04 LTS, update-grub produces all menu entries because
os-prober (1.38) finds all installed os but not a working menu entry for
one because it tries to use the wrong disk for the Linux system. This
is clear because it is trying to boot a Windows system and chokes on
NTFS file system.

The computer's BIOS will place the disk with the distribution at
different places, I have seen /dev/sda, /dev/sdc, and /dev/sdg.

Because of this I use UUIDs so there is no confusion. I have verified
that the problematic UUID is correct, so apparently grub is ignoring
this and using the set root='(hd~,~)'

[Bug 1026358] [NEW] update-grub fails to find linux system

2012-07-18 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Public bug reported:

After updating grub (sudo update-grub) from xubuntu 12.04 (Linux
3.2.0-26-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 14 17:49:24 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) on sdd to allow another system with a new
kernel on another disk (sdg) to be booted, the boot menu ommitted the
system on sdg.

This is new behavior. Prior update-grub executions listed the system
on sdd.

[Bug 1019363] Re: Dead desktop on boot

2012-07-01 Thread keepitsimpleengr
This system is scheduled for deprecation. To many essential
functionality are dysfunctional.

1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
⋯booted into system from grub2
2. the behavior you expected, and
⋯expected to see wallpaper and have mouse actions work on screen 0
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
⋯no wallpaper and have mouse actions work on screen 0
